I'm 70 and have seen Johnny 6 times over the years. In my opinion...Johnny was the greatest Blues guitarist to ever walk the Earth. His incredible playing is "beyond words."
Frankly where is the originality of his guitar playing ? . Hundreds of people play this well . If you have time , watch on CZcams the video of the English group The Hamsters : Live at German TV 1997 . Technically the guitarist of this trio is better .
I've seen him as many times as you bro, I have this autograph 5 times. Loved him
Always thought Johnny never got the credit he deserved as a bluesman. Maybe because he came from being famous in rock.
In my entire life (68) I've seen 100 rock concerts. 99 of them were Johnny Winter.
64 here! 1973 cobo arena detroit, michigan with his brother and Rick d. Buy Farr best concert of 100or so?
🎉😂
Man, I really like Paul Nelson. He is a truly rare and awesome person. He took care of Johnny for so many years, with perfect grace, and was protective of Him, without ‘getting in the way’. Amazing guy. How does one find somebody like Paul? How many folks can you trust? Answer: “No one”. Unless it happens to be Paul Nelson. He was very kind to me, as well. And I really appreciate(d) him for that, and for the fact that I got to see who he is, for real. “Thanks Paul, for talking care of Our buddy, Johnny”. “Thanks Johnny, for teaching Me, how to Play.” Much love to both of you guys. ~ Arthur di-Ku SilverHawk ~
yes, Paul is so modest that he put his name at the end of the list of musicians at the start of the video
Yeah, he got him out from under the thumb of that p.o.s. Ted Slatus. Pual got him off methadone and got him eating a bit healthier, if you consider tacos, cheeseburgers, and milkshakes healthy.
Thank you for recognizing kindness. I always love seeing that.
I met the band on a cruise ship. You hit the nail on the head. In 2014 he actually got up and played highway 61 on his feet! He is truly magnificent!
@silverhawk Amen Brother ,Met Paul at the Queen in wilmington De. My wife at the time bless her heart came home happy to tell me she got Johnny Winter tickets knowing that I've loved Johnny since I was 9 when Johnny And live came out I liberated my Dad's copy and commenced to play the baseball bat to every tune 😂 ,she didn't know he had past away. So we saw Paul and the Boys Great show!! I found out later what Paul had done ,had I known I surely would have thanked Him
Captured Live still one of the all-time great rock albums. Was a special musician.
Yes!!!!!! Ladies and gentlemen……………. Johnnny Winterrrrrrrr🛠️🎸🎸
I still have mine from high school...I've played it so much you could shave with it....
@@mkrock9402 ……… yea me too 😂🎸🎸🎸🎸
I saw Johnny a year after this in a small club in Atlanta, and though his obvious frailty was difficult to get used to at first (he only stood for maybe 1-2 songs), it was a sublime experience. I stood less than 10 feet from a legend and watched him wail away effortlessly as though his fingers were guided by something otherworldly.
Very few comments make me envious. However, yours did, but in the good way that says I’m really pleased you experienced that, I just wish I’d experienced it as well.
We all love our Uncle Johnny down here in Texas.
Robert Johnson, Charlie Christian, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen and John Dawson Winter, were the only blues rock souls the Muses ever allowed to play good enough to revolutionize and change the game. That's the true, irrefutable sign of REAL guitar gods, a very, very exclusive club indeed. SMIB
That mimics my experience as well!
When the guy walked him out holding his arm, I thought "uh-oh".. Turned out he blew us away!
I was about 15 ft away.
Its incredible to think this man once jammed with Jimi Hendrix. He played until his last day.
I saw Johnny for a 1 hour concert in Berlin/Germany. It was a highlight of my concerts. And I`m 67 age
77 here my brother and I still listen to his music.
And I 68, like U now,. listening to Johnny and and all the great fans such as U!
Seen " JOHNNY " 7 times. These guys..this band involved 4 of those times. Guitar player extremely nice guy ..time to converse with everyone before and after show ..but I believe ( unlike previous band members) he had JOHNNY'S best interest at heart. Took care of our legendary blues man . Always a great show.
60 years a Johnny Winter fan, hard to see all my old guitar heroes getting so old ,like me
Edgar and Rick heroes of mine as well started listening to them at14 I'm 67 now, brings a tear miss Johnny,
I am 76 and Seen Johnny 14 times in Concert.... The Best Blues Musicians there ever was and ever will be .
Paul Nelson - guitar ! GREAT
Johnny Winter as Legends Of Rock
n' Roll band Always.thank to ROCK PALAST
Every Johnny Winter fan owes Paul Nelson and band an incredible debt of gratitude. They took Johnny back out on the road, where a real bluesman belongs. Although frail of body, Johnny's musical prowess was still as strong as ever here. His chops are as sharp as they ever were IMHO
I saw Johnny & Edgar open for Blue Oyster Cult and ZZ TOP at Anaheim stadium on the world wide Texas tour, they dropped a screen to keep the Sun of them, they hit the stage after 3pm on a hot day and absolutely tore it up. To this day it's the best show opening act, only because Humble Pie only played 45 minutes and the Winters set 90 minutes.
you sure blue oyster cult wasn't opening for Johnny Instead? Him and ZZ top has been around much longer is way more famous!
I saw this same show. 1976, I think. It was in Santa Barbara. I was in the Air Force, stationed at Vandenburg .I left before ZZ Top came on because I peaked. Nobody could top Johnny and Edgar together. I think they used that tarp because being Albino would do some damage to their skin.
Johnny Winter truly missed, what a concert and what about the band, just amazing, Paul Nelson great guitar player. Johnny blues legend
First time I seen Johnny was 1970 At Pirates World Dania Florida.... GREAT SHOW....2 encores....He was the Headliner.....
The godfather of blues rock
Awesome Performance as allways what a great Guitar Player Johny was and vocalist too¡ All Star Guitar Player and Band ¡🙏🙏❤❤🎸🎸
I saw Johnny in 1987 in Bremen live............ONE OF THE GREATEST
Saw this line up in Milwaukee. I'm glad I was able to see Johnny play! I had never seen him before that. Though it seemed he was quite frail, his guitar playing was really smooth and effortless. Just thankful I was able to see a true legend and pioneer of progressive blues/rock in person!
I know Eric Clapton and Johnny loved and listened to each other's music. You can hear each other's influence on the other when you listen to them play. What wonderful musicians they are and were. Our world was blessed to have them come down among us and visit for a minute.
Incredible man.
One word...
Phenomenal. ❤
Winters and nik Turner, so allike and never gets old.
Such a powerful Blues - illustrated man, the BLUES community is missing you! Just keep on playing with all the other legends above, Jonny!
Johnny was my first concert ever !!! The tour, with Foghat opening the concert in the 70's. Saw him at Harrisburg Pa. in the Farm Show Arena. What an amazing concert that I will never forget !!! He will always be my favorite guitarist !!! His blues/rock and roll playing not to mention his slide use, was out of this world !!! RIP Johnny, you will always be my best !!!!
I'm French 77 'nd I' ve seem him two times, first in a small town in the south west after a french group Little Bob Story.
The second time, in Boston usa. Magic moments that I remember if it was yesterday !!
I will never forget the first time i saw him in 1088 - i was freaking out brvaude i could not believe how amszing he played! Omg!
damn you've been around a long time brother
I saw Johnny Winter every time he ever came to Vancouver British Columbia the first time he introduced Rick Derringer to the world. The last time I saw Johnny it was unreal because he got to play with the person that I actually think is the greatest guitar player in the world has ever seen or heard and no one is anywhere is even close to having his speed that man.. Alvin Lee. To see Johnny Winter and Alvin Lee the same night was just awesome… to really appreciate the speed of Alvin Lee first listen to Johnny Winter play good morning little schoolgirl then listen to Alvin Lee play good morning little school girl the difference in speed is 1 to 10 Johnny Winter being one Alvin Lee 10. The deal is Johnny Winter is nowhere near being a slow guitar player peace…
I saw Johnny Winter back in the 70's at the San Diego Sports Arena, Great show one of my favorite guitar players. ever.
Very cool great time for rock & blues
I remember watching him for the first time on The Old Grey Whistle Test, he simply blew the 13/14 year old me away. He was pretty much unheard of in the U.K. at the time (sometime around 73/74). I went into school and saw the guy I played guitar (very badly) with and simultaneously we said "Did you watch TOGWT last night‽ Did you see the skinny blonde guy‽"
I lived in UK for few years, and I loved it! Thanx Mark!
He rocked blues guitar like no one else
Saw Johnny & his band at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, CA. in '81. Was my first time seeing him even though been a fan since 1969. Great concert similar to this set. People forget Johnny & his little brother Edgar played their first big gig at Woodstock '69 and then became one of the biggest Rock acts in the early '70s with his band Johnny Winter And, with Rick Derringer. Edgar went on to form White Trash and later The Edgar Winter Group (again with Derringer). Great to see them all on stage together again. A blues legend, indeed.
I was trying to recall the first of many times I saw Johnny Winter so I went to my ticket stub collection. It was in Toronto in 73, and it was actually Edgar Winter’s White Trash we went to see, and when it came time for the encore, Edgar said “we have a special treat for y’all tonight, come on out Johnny”. The arena erupted as this legend with long white hair and wearing a full black cape came onstage and literally rocked the house with Johnny B Goode. I saw him a few times after that, but that first time was well worth the $6.60 😂
I was in a band called silk in 1970 we opened for certain and Johnny winter in Cleveland. Johnny stole the show. he was fantastic.
😅
GOD BLESS !!! I miss you JOHNNY...................(RIP)
… Impressive in a way. That even when most parts of his brain and senses had become fragmented and shattered, he could still do the music.
Interestingly apart from his appearance when he did interviews he was very lucid with great recall of names of past band members. His cognition seems to have been quite intact.
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!! Amen
Nothing lacking to my perception cognitive awareness et alia. Opens up brain and pathways in my heart and soul.
Blues can never die!
Johnny, best blues guitar ever!
The band is genial!
Great from Hamburg Germany!
THANK YOU!
In Respekt to Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf and all other blues bands!
Winter is coming back!
Excellent, what an historical concert with full of surprises, I love it ! 🌼
I saw Johnny for the first time in 1992, then in 1993, and 1994. Saw a difference between '92 and '94. Then in the early 2000s I noticed a definite decline. Saw him for the last time in 2009. A much better show. Paul was his manager and 2nd guitarist and he was getting his "growl" back. Took a friend to the show who didn't know who Johnny was until I loaned her some cds. Afterwards she was hooked.
Drei Legenden gemeinsam on Stage. Super 👍🏾👍🏾🎸
I saw Johnny in 1975 in Winter Land,SF, and was surprised when they closed the upper bowconel down do to the lack of ticket sales
YEAH JOHNNY YOU AREA LEGEND REST IN PEACE YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON
Johnny Winter, I noticed this blues man a little late, his guitar technique is amazing, his voice is amazing, he is a legend and will always be remembered as such.
Just no other like Johnny Winter!!
This is one of the best blues concerts I've ever seen and I'm only 20ish minutes in!! Wish I could have seen him play! 🤘🔥🎸

I got to see Johnny in Houston Tx in the mid 70s played at a converted bank into a club. Played awesome one of the best performances I experienced.

👍👍 jamming having a good time... the good old days
Not often talked about, but this man is a Legend, with a capital L
Only if you're not listening. This guy's name is dropped FREQUENTLY by monster players the world over. To say he's not talked about is doing him a dishonor.
Hats off to his guitar player....i saw them years ago outside and this guy was absolute great....
Love you Johnnie RIP
At 74 I’ve been to more concerts than I can really remember, many were forgettable. Johnny was absolutely fantastic with his unique style. I will tell you though, the one player that stood out the most for me was Stevie Ray. Never had I seen such energy and passion and sound coming out of one man. It just flowed and I was totally blown away and for me he is the greatest blues player of all.
Hendrix , SRV, Winter...it is not really possible to pick one of them over the other!....Three insanely talented men, who could at any time they wanted, just blow people off the stage.
blue monday at the rome inn in austin. t birds were playing and Johnny came in. was dancing with my gf and he was right next to us. spun my gf around and said "see that albino over my shoulder"? That's johnny winter. he later sat in and did my favorite winter song "It's my own fault". what a treat!!!
¡ Cuantos Recuerdos, Magnifico ¡
HELL Yeah! Man I LOVE Johnny! Right On!
In my own opinion one of the greatest guitarists. Rest In Heaven, JW.
Grande Winter !!! MAESTROOO !!!
Beaumont Texas native....and his brother Edgar lit it up all the time for 55 years.
Verry good stuff and show from Mr. Winter and band. He is a genius on the guitar. Thanks for uploading.
I loved this man. A turning point, Paul just started him on the road of recovery..♥️
