  • Interventional cardiologist, Dr. Koushik Reddy, argues that our healthcare system is really a disease management system, but we still have some agency. He shares several pillars he believes will help each of us have a happy, long healthy life. Dr. Reddy completed his general and interventional cardiology fellowship training at Winthrop University Hospital in Long Island, NY. After 10 years of interventional cardiology, he changed his focus towards cardiovascular health promotion and disease prevention. He is a member of American College of Cardiology’s working group on nutrition and lifestyle. He serves as a board of director for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He is the founding Co-Chair of the VA/DOD member interest group and the Cardiology member interest group under the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He is board certified in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Lifestyle Medicine
He established two preventive cardiology clinics.
He is deeply committed to the idea of health promotion and disease prevention, using lifestyle and nutrition related tools. It is with this passion and commitment, he boldly challenges his patients with - “I have a carrot and a stent, you pick!” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. So grateful I was one of the so many people who had the opportunity to stumble on your presentation Dr.Reddy. I had already accepted the fact that I am hypertensive up until I followed your mission. To be plantbased was and always be the key! Now I am off all of my Bp medications and I am proud to be where I am now!

An Excellent and eloquent mind opening talk… problem with the present health authorities is, to emphasize on lifespan of an individual, where as in fact they should be emphasizing on the health span… ie the number of years they can live independently… no use living for a hundred years when you spend forty of them bedridden due to various morbidities… btw, I am also an interventional cardiologist in practice and have been guiding my patients towards strict lifestyle modifications and encouraging to consume plant based Whole Foods… i discourage them from taking poly pharmacy including statins… I tell them to consume what’s grown on plants rather than what’s made in a ‘plant’… consume anti inflammatory foods and plenty of saturated fats, not forgetting vitamin D!!

So this man really cares. It's not about the big bad medical establishment. It's about people doing what is important to take care of themselves. The information is out there...why do people choose to ignore it? Because it's hard and not always fun!
