This is a victory for your life! God knows it and it's marked. Congratulations! Anything is possible sometimes we must fight the battle. God bless you.
crazy to think I grew up to this album. Every song used to get me through the hardest times and the best! It fills me with so much nostalgia, the songs are not only good but also deep. Very underrated and empowering. Thank you, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, for giving me and everyone out there this gift.
I listened to this song repetitively during my undergrad. I revisited it when I was struggling to complete my master's degree while recovering from a c-section. I am now listening to it tonight while completing my admissions essay to the Ph.D. program of my dreams.
As of April 25th, 2015 I'm debt free. After 5 years of living in cheap studio apartments looking up at the ceiling saying to myself I will not die here. I missed a few weddings, graduations, weekend get aways, concerts nothing back breaking but fun things. Didn't get to many calls back from the ladies after they knew I was in a studio and rocked a bus pass. (I don't blame them one bit.) That one hurt the most, 30 plus years old, single, no degree, working my ass off. I had a goal but I swear in the thick of it, it's not pretty at times all I saw was failure. I wish I could say ... man this song got me through it but I didn't find it until I was "So damn close I could taste it" while fighting to be debt free doesn't quite equate to becoming a rapper. Drive is drive... "This is my life...my arena." It helped me shake the shame off the other disappointing areas in life. I rock this in the gym. I rock this walking home from the bus stop, I rock this with bags of groceries in my hands. One day I will rock this in my truck, I will rock this in my Condo, I'll be thinking of this when get my bachelors. "A life lived for art is never wasted" Art can be anything & anything can be beautiful... this is the most inspiring song I've ever heard. This song so underrated.
+Rand Hooks I also really like it because it's so opposite what you usually get from hip hop which usually tells you to struggle while you sell drugs or pimp women, it speaks hard work which is more valuable than any chain.
Listened to this on repeat on my first day of 8th grade and my mom would walk me to school at 6am just to get school at 8am I didn’t listen to this song for 5 years. Today my mom walked me to school for my final day of 12th grade.... I put this song on repeat . Held back the tears ♥️
This morning, 6:30 and the sun isn’t even reflecting off the clouds, I finally heard this song. I’ve been depressed and listening to this album all the time to try to go back to 2013 because I was happy then. But at the end he says “the moment is now, can’t get it back(from the grave)”. When he said that, I felt the last grip on 2013 die for me. I felt it in my chest and behind my eyes. The moment is now, and I can’t get that time in my life back. Not sure how this will affect me later but we’ll see
This Man's lyrics, which are raw and honest poetry, have not only helped me through my addiction when I broke down crying on the interstate listening to his music but inspired me to get help. When I was in rehab I would play his songs regularly and everybody would always sing along. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." Amen.
I'm 25 now. I have listened to you since you were known as Professor Macklemore. Open Your Eyes was the album that put me on. Can't believe how fast time flies. Thank you for inspiring me, man. Much love man, thank you for helping me get through this crazy ass journey that we all call LIFE.
This song, even after all these years still give me goosebumps. Massively underrated. Ten thousand times better than any of the shit they play on the radio today.
I listened to this song while working on my college applications, and now, seven years later, I am still listening to it as I complete my graduate school applications.
So I've always heard about how good "The Heist" is, but I never gave it a chance. I was kinda sour because it beat out Good Kid M.A.A.D. City for Best rap album 2012. Listening to this song now, this album, it's honestly just that good. Why did I wait to long to find this gem? I honestly hope this album gets all the love it deserves. The Heist.
I remember listening to can’t hold us all the time when I was little, now I’m going back and listening to the whole album, I’m kinda mad I missed out on these bangers

Recently I was driving home from work and randomly this album crossed my mind and since that moment I’ve been listening to it start to finish for the last week, this album is a masterpiece.. he does not get enough credit for his writing at all not to mention that every song has a different sound and each song is memorable . I hope he comes back with an album like this but if not I’m happy we’ve got this one forever 🤘🏻
This song put my a$$ in the gym and got me to Box and train everyday. When no one believed in me, this song gave me hope that if I put in my 10,000 hours I could be great. Never give up...10,000 hours.

So true, makes me sad that I'll probably forget about this tune somewhere down the line, forgot about it for years til the other day in fairness
The whole album is underrated, I am so happy that this album was the ONLY album I grew up with. I learned alot from it too
That’s why Bieber felt the need to rip it off
I can though
I sure can.

This album is madly under appreciated, can't hold us and thrift shop get all the fame...the whole album is a great piece of art.
A LIFE DEDICATED TO ART IS NEVER A LIFE WASTED!
I thought it was a a life lived for art..
One of Macklemore’s best for sure

Love this so much! March 21, 2024 whooooooo! 💙🕊️🐦⬛
Uh
I hope that God decides to talk through him
That the people decide to walk with him
Regardless of pitchfork cosigns I've jumped
Make sure the soundman doesn't cockblock the drums
Let the snare knock the air right out of your lungs
And those words be the oxygen
Just breathe
Amen, regardless I'mma say it
Felt like I got signed the day that I got an agent
Got an iTunes check, shit man I'm paying rent
About damn time that I got out of my basement
About damn time I got around the country and I hit these stages
I was made to slay them
Ten thousand hours I'm so damn close I can taste it
On some Malcolm Gladwell, David-Bowie-meets-Kanye shit
This is dedication
A life lived for art is never a life wasted
Ten thousand
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand hands
Ten thousand hands, they carry me
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand hands
Ten thousand hands, they carry me
Now, now, now
This is my world, this is my arena
The TV told me something different I didn't believe it
I stand here in front of you today all because of an idea
I could be who I wanted if I could see my potential
And I know that one day I'mma be him
Put the gloves on, sparring with my ego
Everyone's greatest obstacle, I beat 'em
Celebrate that achievement
Got some attachments, some baggage I'm actually working on leaving
See, I observed Escher
I love Basquiat
I watched Keith Haring
You see I study art
The greats weren't great because at birth they could paint
The greats were great because they paint a lot
I will not be a statistic
Just let me be
No child left behind, that's the American scheme
I make my living off of words
And do what I love for work
And got around 980 on my SATs
Take that system, what did you expect?
Generation of kids choosing love over a desk
You put those hours in and look at what you get
Nothing that you can hold, but everything that it is
Ten thousand
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand hands
Ten thousand hands, they carry me
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand hands
Ten thousand hands, they carry me
Same shit, different day, same struggle
Slow motion as time slips through my knuckles
Nothing beautiful about it, no light at the tunnel
For the people that put the passion before them being comfortable
Raw, unmedicated heart no substitute
Banging on table tops, no subs to toot
I'm feeling better than ever man, what is up with you?
Scraping my knuckles, I'm battling with some drug abuse
I lost another friend, got another call from a sister
And I speak for the people that share that struggle too
Like they got something bruised
My only rehabilitation was the sweat, tears and blood when up in the booth...
It's the part of the show
Where it all fades away
When the lights go to black
And the band leaves the stage
And you wanted an encore
But there's no encore today
'Cause the moment is now
Can't get it back from the grave
Part of the show
It all fades away
Lights go to black
Band leaves the stage
You wanted an encore
But there's no encore today
'Cause the moment is now
Can't get it back from the grave
