The description below the video says "July 13, 1969". I don't know if the date is absolutely correct, but if I remember correctly it was suggested to me and arrived at through some input I received from viewers of this video upload years ago.
show: Hee Haw
GOD that man could really finger bang a guitar
When Roy Clark died my mother cried
So, there are many artists, now and in the past that have played this song, yet after listening to as many as I can find, this song has for me, become Roy Clark and vice versus. No one can match the total fervor, and excitement this, his version brandishes as it's simple yet master statement.
Pleased my ears. Hurt my eyes
Yeah, that weird oscillating aperture effect was a bit much at the beginning.
Leroy Carroll that was a hilarious comment I laughed my but off
@watergod 83 more like humorgod 83 lol gottem
Thought it said
"please, hurt my ears"
@Donna Micek Strange.
Ever noticed that there's a 30 year age difference between the men and the women, in these old shows?
czcams.com/video/B6GsbWzKDdM/video.html
...and whilst you take in the breathtaking beauty of this music and stunning ability, please do enjoy your epileptic fit.
😂
Hahahhahahahhahahhaha
Remember Roy it's CUTTING EDGE photography...🙄
Ahh, the Seventies....
LOL'd.
I brewed some tea, sat down, watched a Roy Clark video (never heard of him before) and fell into a rabbit hole. What an absolute beast this guy was. I haven't taken one sip of my tea lol
Hi…. You must be from England (Tea). I am too but live here in the US. I’d never heard of Roy Clark until I moved here. Jimmy Hendrix was asked “How does it feel to be the best Guitarist in the world”… his reply was “I don’t know, you’d better ask Roy Clark”. What a compliment. 👍🏼
When I was early teens in the 70's. Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were weekly evening TV celeb's. As I recall, both were recognized as virtuouso guitarist. I admired them then and more today. It's great to see what appears to be younger people discovering Roy's incredible skills. He was also great in sketch comedy a true entertainer.
@@nigelbeaumont1109 You mean Jimi Hendrix. Roy was very well known in his time. He's gone, now. He was equally as famed as JH.
P S....Americans drink tons of tea, like here, in Texas. Iced or hot. ..year round. We sure do NOT put milk in it.
@@nigelbeaumont1109that story is great but I think it’s an old wives tale. I’ve heard the same from Eric Clapton and prince. And others as well.
@@Meatball2022
Yeah, you are probably right. Sounds good though.
Very few guitarists work on the right-hand technique as much as Clark did, and to keep that flamingo fluttering like that over a lengthy period of time is very challenging. You've heard Eddie Van Halen play leads or single notes this fast, but few have the right-hand strumming skills that Roy did. He also played multiple instruments. One of the greatest musicians of any time. RIP, big fella.
I couldn't BELIEVE just how fast he was strumming!!! It was insane. I would struggle going HALF of his speed, and I've been playing guitar for 12 years!!
For sure!
The man could play anything with strings. Guitar, violin, banjo, harp, shoes
Um...it's *flamenco* not flamingo. Flamingo is a pink bird lol
Flamenco is a genre of music and dance, but "flamenco" 🔥is also the Spanish translation of "flamingo" (as in the bird).
By the way,
What Mr. Clark (R.I.P.) is performing is a *pasodoble.*
Flamenco*
It’s May 2024 and this music still astounds…. Bravo!
The most underrated and under promoted guitar player ever
One of the few performances where he keeps a serious face. He usually smiles like a kid on a playground.
He smiles because, 2:11 to Roy, music IS his playground 👍🏼
@@raristy1I wish I could anything as much as Roy did in that moment.
And normally his sticks out.
You are seeing a master concentrating everything he has......
This man was a true genius.
You know when Roy Clark has to concentrate hard to do it, we never will.
Very well said
Ya know, I'll bet he's not concentrating, so much as just feeling it. He could do some of the craziest stuff, while being quite the clown. Truly an entertainer.
One of the greatest guitarists of our time.
Unfortunately most people just remember him for Hee Haw.
Saaaaaaaaaaa-lute! 🤠
He’s well known inside the guitar world
Fing amazing guitarist, but could masterfully play ANY stringed instrument..
not th greatest bu considering violin is hios main instrument impressive
thids guy can play everything literally
His picking dynamics are absolutely incredible.
Especially when you realize this is a flamenco song that he is playing with a pick
@@akidwithaclub the picking part was his fingers 🤌
Yes!
That was incredible isn't it
At some point in his life, He very well may have been the best guitarist on earth.!.!.!.!
Yes. Even if just briefly
I think chet atkins was the best
Yeah ok ..you obviously aint heard of harry munk or zweatty balsach
@@michaelresendiz9135 you have less of a sense of humor than a rock. Bonehead. Lmfao!! At you.😂
No. Not even close.
Roy Clark was is and always will be a guitar hero playing like a god... mind blowing speed and melody clean and clear.. Roy Clark made it in the Guinness book of world records for his tremendous talent... God bless you Roy he plays for God now what a calling...
This is the first I have ever seen him fantastic
... what a Calling for God to listen to the Mastery of a player like Roy Clark! 💗
Right??.and imagine if God were real! Lol
Actually Roy could play any thing with strings perfect and playing live with no help, What talent he had,, absolutely fantastic musician,
if you look closely, Roy is holding the pick of destiny
The Elder Pick
Thanks I tried looking closely and just came out of a 4 week coma from the seizures.
Roy might be the picker of destiny... Never saw a pick in his hand
Destiny!!!
@@Phlegm187 LOL!!!!!!!!
His hand was just a blur but he didn't even work up a sweat.
AMAZING!!!
Miss him and the whole hee haw gang.
Lu lu and some of the girls are all that's left.
The hardest thing so far about getting old is missing my folks and old friends.
Roy Clark and Jerry Reed were 2 of the most underrated guitarists, ever.
Not in the professional music community. Roy Clark in particular was very highly respected.
I would add Glenn Campbell to that.
@@tidefanyankee2428 Roy, Glen and Jerry were the best.
In any genre 🙂
Don't forget Glen Campbell.. Just may be the GOAT !!
It's been so long since I've heard him play. I forgot how good he was. A master technician and capable of so many styles. RIP Roy Clark, a true Master of the Guitar.
oh shi... he was still alive a week ago when I was looking at his vids
Now we have Drake and Cardi B ....fucking ridiculous
@@dingdong5625 check out chon
eX Fin whats chon?
Agree . complete fact . amazing player of so many different styles...
That was some of the best strumming I have EVER seen!
That tune is supposed to be longer than that but the guitar was over heating so he stopped out of mercy.
I've seen him perform this many times .
It's like my first time , every time .
Super Human !
This man is a legend, he could play anything with strings...beautiful
Roy Clark simply is the absolute master of the guitar. Guitars have been used, abused, tortured, and destroyed, by many. Roy Clark shows us absolute understanding, and mastery of the instrument.
Well said -
AND virtually EVERY other stringed instrument, also!!!
Yea, and Paco de Lucia don't get a look in, right?
?
As I said, Nobody has ever been better.
One of the biggest goofballs ever and one of the most phenomenal guitarist/ musician ever! And he did it all clean! Still just floors me whenever I watch him play. Great sense of humor and very humble. Just amazing!
Eddie Van Halen was in awe of Roy Clark. Roy Clark was a huge talent that is hard to find today.
Masterpiece from a legend!!!!
And the man does that wearing a jacket ... i cant get out of a car wearing a jacket ... he's amazing !
lol....awesome comment :-)
that and also Roy is one helluva thick boi
Mr Newcomb, the jackets were a left over from the 50/60s, attempting to look respectable on stage(musicians were filthy drug addicts that stayed up all night).
It's a special fire proof jacket, similar to what the Flash wears
@@henryjames8654 And yet here you are, listening in.
I grew up listening to Roy Clark and we watched Heehaw about house. He was so amazing. 😮
Roy already knew before he ever played this piece that he would overwhelm the eyes of guitarists for generations who succeeded him
Meistro , Roy Clark. His guitar was second to none
I watched Hee Haw as a little kid. I knew Roy Clark was a good guitarist. I didn't know he was this great. Incredible talent. R.I.P. Roy.
Im a Prog rocker but this guy was so underrated as a guitarist.
I was a bit of a prog guy in the 60’s & 70’s and beyond...and was aware of Roy’s playing way back and he’s practically a god.
As a teenager I was biased against country music. It was my parents' music. Now I realize how limiting that was.
A wise person said, "There are only 2 types of music...good and bad."
Kent Lewis, Aging will do things like that. : ).
“prog rocker”
The sounds from a gifted artist never gets old.
I'm from Málaga, I grew up listening malagueñas & verdiales every day. This is a good cover.
como la de Sabicas, pocas versiones. con todos mis respetos a este interprete que hace un trabajo espectacular.
totally amazing guitar work💐 ♫ ♥
Check him out jammin with glen campell
A hidden gem that got not much credit... One of the greatest American guitarists of all time.
And TWO time, winner of Banjo picker of the year award. His strumming alone, his VOICE, then being all over the neck--if he had half the material Glenn had, he would have been even bigger than he is.
One of the GREATEST GUITARIST in any style music!!
Ernesto Leucona está orgulloso que un guitarrista norteamericano le dio honor a su obra
❤you are so right about that,,he would love Roy, and he would be happy and smiling .
Nobody could pick like him. The world just lost a legend. Thank you for inspiring me to love music more, Roy. Rest easy.
Yes I think he is number one and RIP Roy CLARK
A true legend
There is no stringed instrument he did not master.
Nah, alip ba ta could do like him too.
@@backtopurrrfectagain6681 not even close lmao
11/15/2018 Today the news of Roy Clark's death! We will miss you. Glen Cambell. Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, all gone now. The greatest!
The holy trinity of pickers
Don't forget Jerry. He was a beast.
One of THE most underrated guitarists of ALL time...Roy Clark
Roy was a national treasure. RIP. I have been fascinated by this guy since I was a young child.
RIP. Such an amazing talent.
Dude, and that's just his guitar playing. He slayed the banjo and fiddle too
You can talk about your Eric Clapton Stevie Ray Vaughan Jimi Hendrix and all the other ones but for me Glen Campbell and Roy Clark are two of the very best
right on
You are correct, Sir! None of them could do what Roy and Glenn could do.
Team Campbell all the way.
That is your opinion. But each is phenomenal in their own way, reinventing a genre in a different way.
. .along with Chet Atkins
No one played it better. Absolutely perfection.
The man is a musical genius. His range and diversity are second to none. Incredible!
But, sir, nun is not even here!!!
The man was an absolute phenomenon. Love watching/hearing him play.
OMFG. How is it that Roy Clark slid under the radar for 50 years? I remember him fondly from heehaw... he is a master of many instruments! Hope GenX and millenials appreciate his talent.
Millennial here… I, for one, am absolutely stunned. I’ve been obsessing over Roy’s playing for weeks, and I would honestly call him the best of all time.
Millennial here, this is mesmerizing, this talent should be remembered for the entire existence of mankind.
Millennial here, Roy melted my face off with his guitar playing!!
@@belletobellhahahahahaha!!
You made me laugh so hard!!
Gen X here.....
We already appreciate Sir Roy Clark!!😂
It strange how certain people are born with a specific, special interest and knowledge of music interests and can easily pick up on playing musical instruments and making it sound and look easy,, ❤strings are just not for everyone but they were meant for a specific person such as Roy Clark, wow, amusing and amazing, thanks so much for Roy bringing joy to entertainment for all of us,,❤he lives on through his music!
I had the privilege of seeing Roy at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, AZ, 1993; that man played anything and everything with strings on it...guitar, banjo, dobro, fiddle, mandolin, pedal steel, you name it, he played it. He brought the house down performing Malaguena during the encore on a 12-string Ovation electric/acoustic; mind completely blown...R.I.P. Roy, and thank you for sharing your immense talents with the world! 🎸♥️🙏
I could listen to this 100 times over. It's some of the most phenomenal guitar-playing I've ever seen!
What a ferocious player. World class act. Stunning.
Roy Clark...easily a top 10 guitarist.
He had it all, world class guitarists, good looks and movie star personality
He did this at the end of an odd couple episode. He really was a very impressive musician. He also played banjo and violin! And played all equally well!
Also, i just love this song/music.
Just new him as country western music. He is really good.
That right, IMO, is the greatest guitar playing I've ever heard.
It’s awesome that Roy is getting his due with modern guitarists, who are discovering his talent through performances like this and not being weirded out by Hee Haw. The man was a once in a century talent.
Probably one of the greatest musicians of all time.
Its a shame how underrated he was. A brilliant musician.
Absolutely beautiful this is pure talent watching from NZ ❤
The messiah guitarist has spoken! What a timeless legend! R.I.P. you awesome, wholesome and groovy soul.
Wow, I could listen to it one thousand times and not tire of hearing it
Oh man, Roy Clark will always be relevant: one of the most unique and talented guitar players of his generation and now mine! RIP chap
My dad saw him play this in concert. He said that it was beyond amazing.
one of the finest musical performances ever...bravo
I'm much too young to have grown up with this guy's music, but seeing him now I realize just how much of an influence he's had on the music I like. It's crazy to see all of these techniques that I think are so revolutionary and new, but this guy was already doing them decades earlier
3:48 was the birth of the metalcore riff... 🔥
Roy Clark was one of the best guitarists ever.
Love the passion and the embellishments.
There are no words that can explain this man's playing other than mastery times thousands!
IMO, the most amazing and talented acoustic guitarist if all time.
Roy was a Beast !!!
Rest in peace, Roy..... you left us so many timeless memories.
My guitars are quiet for you today Mr. Clark. It is said far too often, but today it is meant more than ever. You were the best!! Now your memory will live forever among those who strummed thru the sore fingers and played thru hard times. I never had the privilageof knowing you, but I loved you all the same. Thank you for showing us what God given talent looked like. I get the feeling Johnny met you and handed you a guitar as he said "welcome old friend, come join the band. We've been waiting for you."
FKN WORD BRO !!!!! WORD
Really? I played even harder when I got the news. To each their own.
😢👍
@justinian1962 - Stop with your bullshit! Don't disrespect a person death. What kind of slimy moron are you?
God Bless him! I look forward to seeing him again.
The Great Roy Clark - an iconic Spanish song.
I know of no one who could play like that, technically or otherwise. Just unbelievable!
The great, the talented, the mesmerizing, Roy clark. Without any doubt, one of the greatest all time musicians. He is unequalled.
Roy was so far ahead of the curve with his inventiveness and composition.
Definitely a musician that almost never gets the recognition befitting a person of his strata of talent.
Never heard him utter a negative word about another athlete.
CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED.
There isn't enough recognition in the whole world...
Just Awesome!
Hall of Fame! all-time best guitarist on to ever live on Earth! Roy was a Badass!
One of the best stringed instrumentalists of all time!
Every time I listen to this and watch it, I love Roy Clark's talent more!!! Fantastic!!!
Thanks for music memories
He was a master with the guitar.
Also banjo and fiddle.
Roy Clark is a true master of guitar. He has influenced countless numbers of guitarists in all genres of music. That slapping technique he uses at 3:47 has to have influenced many bass players. He has an awesome sense of humor too. :)
I agree John; I had no idea of the scope of his talents. His ability to play many instruments and the "slapping" technique" was truly exquisite. Reminding me of flamenco!
Well said!
Spot on with everything minus the slap part.
@@wesleyhill4922 Well, it is the most famous Flamenco song there ever was.
That wouldn't surprise me, about the bassists being influenced. Wasn't there a clip of him in 24 Hour Party People?
The best guitar rendition iv'e ever heard. He captures the soul of the piece.
Roy Clark is the most fun guitarist to watch play
Beautiful. The Best! Bravissimo 👏🏻
Helle!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day!.. Stay Safe!
Red blob thing's a bit of a trip out. Amazing playing. He's one of the greats. No question about it.
I could definitely do without that.
what a beautiful rendition and captivating performance. My only regret is I will never get the chance to witness this live. Rest in peace sir Roy, for your wonderful and magnificent creations live on.
Roy Clark was one hell of a musician.
this is why this guy is my hero
he can play anything
I began to know this great musician after his death. Yet his magical music is still living.
Without this style being out there in conscious land, there would be no Heavy Metal Trot picking, no hard hitting Metallica riffs and no jaws on the floor right now. Roy Clark officially acknowledged.
+screamengine Do you mean the galloping rhythm? Yes, that is a standard in metal. You can add Slayer' Reign in Blood in there too. The first band I heard do it back in the day was Heart's Baracuda, but this even predates that song.
+screamengine The only modern guitarist I hear acknowledge him is Jon 5 when he refers to all player in Hee Haw that motivated him to play.
Bravo!!!
but this also creates a bridge of admiration for the romantic Spanish music.
So what your trying to say is that we should thank the Moors/Arabs for influencing American Country and Heavy Metal music! , in before “the triggering”
Masterpiece guitar work
Roy Clark, a pleasure to watch as much as to hear you play. True entertainer.
And his acoustic version is even better if you can believe it! I would think what he does is almost impossible with his speed and accuracy. Blows me away!!
Roy Clark... the Undisputed King of Country Pickers is Also an uncrowned Guitar King... he's the Only one I've Ever seen play Malagueña with a Guitar Pick and Not their fingers, yet he played it beautifully and with More Passion than 95% of Anyone else that I've ever seen play it... Roy Clark is a Legend
Is he using a metal pick? It looks silvery here. I thought it was a quarter, at first.
The speed in the right hand of his was simply incredible
I agree the only one I ever saw play with a guitar pick he's absolutely amazing
Jimmy J Bravo 🥀
Anybody remember Charo? She was one of the best flamingo guitarists there ever was. Maybe not as good as Roy,but she had toes in that water too. I know u-tube has her playing this if your interested.
The greatest guitar solo ... Roy Clark
Very difficult piece to play and Roy Clark nailed it.
