Last question can be done by another method. Let suppose, marks of each student is 85. Now as a removal of 2 students now avg marks of 38 students decreased by 1. So total marks of those 2 students will be= (2*85) + (38*1) = 208
And difference is 108. Now solve these 2 equations and you will get your answers. Benefit of this process is, you dont need to do big multiplications.

The hotel question can be done similarly too -
The new average of all 16 men becomes x and to make it easy assume everyone pays x amount,
But the actual amount 16th man pays is = x +75
This extra 75 was distributed over the rest of the 15 men, increasing their amount spent by 5 (75/15) to reach x.
    So, x = 80 + 5 = 85
    Total bill = 85 x 16 = 1360

If we try to solve it using equations
Let x be the present age of daughter in law
Let y be the sum of ages of the four members
    (Y+43)/5=(y+20+x)/5

the 16th man paid rs 75 more than the average of the 16 men...not average of 15 men .. therefore you have to find the average of alll 16 men and then add 75 to the average bill of 16 men ..which will give you 16* average bill + 75

    (M1 +M2 +M3 + M4 + 43)/5 = (M1+5 +M2+5 + M3+5 + M4+5 +Y)

      Eliminate p40 (student exclude)
      p1 to p41 =40 persons(we eliminate p40)
Avg weight increases by one of all 40 persons, so, 40 *1=40
      Student excluded's weight =40
So Teacher 's weight will be more than 40
