This song was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of its time.
This album was ahead of its time. It has depth that showed Billy Idol’s evolution as a musician. The man is an icon. ☄️
He can sing very well live, I was surprised. better than the record. Plus he is a nice grandpa, I like to watch his IG videos with his grandchild.
We had similiar music like this in Germany back in the early 80s
@@tompowers4013 The cyberpunk subculture failed to get anywhere because the youth of the time were choosing "retro" over futurism. Enter the goths and a new generation of phony bourgeois hippies.
it's not ahead of its time it borrows so much from The Terminator, Robocop, Total Recall, Universal Soldier etc in its concept I thought it's pretty obvious
Бил Сибирь.
I love cyberpunk. When you rate Billy's albums you can't really count this one because it is in a plane of its own. When people ask me about it that never heard it, I describe it as billy idol like you've never heard him before....and it is. A real gem as far as I'm concerned. You have to admire his vision here....one of the first of its kind if not the first....
I love the album, too, but I have to admit when I first heard it, it was quite cringey. Billy was kind of the old papa trying to use the sounds the new kids were using, adopting the term "Cyberpunk" kind of out of nowhere. That's the main reason it didn't click with the masses and went completely under the radar for most people. Didn't click with the pop fans, the rock fans, the house/techno fans or the cyberpunk (literature) fans. I felt I loved it against all odds at the time.
The album wasn’t so bad, but it was a very bad idea on Billy’s part. At that time, no one was really doing this type of big flashy rock & roll
@@fryke the song Heroin goes on way too long though, I like the way it starts out but then it gets too crazy and is way too drawn out. Love Labour's On, Concrete Kingdom, Tomorrow People, Adam In Chains, and Neuromancer are pure gold!
@@jamesriver3745 I actually love just putting the heaviest pair of headphones on and listening to the full length of Heroin with my eyes closed. :) (But basically, that goes for the whole album.)
Although there is no single track that I like more than his Big Hits, there is no single Billy Idol album I like more than this one. In it’s totality, it’s his best one.
Cyberpunk was a fantastic album !!!
30 years since its release and still gives me goosebumps. What a tune. Rock on!
Billy Idol's genius is grossly underrated. He is one of the very few true musical geniuses of our time. Billy, love you.
Zhanna Mikhailova Yea, THE 80 's WERE THE BOMB !!!
I agree ge is defo under rated, amazing music
@@shangoslater8024 Electronic music, not real instruments
MJ, Bobby brown, Teena Marie and Billy Idol for me guys
Fuck yeah dude! Righteously true.
cyberpunk was a criminally underrated album. this video was one of my favorites, grunge has very much taken over in 1993 when this was released, but it was so futuristic it blows every grunge artist out of the water.
he exudes such charisma he is so perfect on screen his style his creativity his voice his attitude his way of being in front of the camera everything and in sync he was made to be an artist
too bad he was no longer present in the 90s he had a very good style even these clips are very creative
he is very inspiring
he is a very cultured very intelligent eloquent person and very aware of his environment he has a great mastery of himself and his art
need more artists like him these days
Most underrated album of all time. Every track is fucking fire... Masterpiece.
To get the full effect, only listen in the dark at ear bleeding levels...
Billy just rocks the world still, no one can compare..
I’ve been listening to Billy Idol for 10 years and I’m glad people are finally giving him his flowers, and the Lord Of The Lost’s cover of this song is the perfect exemple. Billy isn’t just the singer of Eyes Without A Face or Rebel Yell, there are many more fantastic songs from this man, and Shock To The System is one of them.
Not for out nothing. He disappeared for over 10+ years after this album battling his drug addictions. He made it through and came out a better man for it. I remember buying the VH1 storytellers DVD back in 2001 when he was almost forgotten and wow what a masterclass performance that was. After then he was confident enough to start recording and finding himself as a musician. And the rest is history.
This song, and Cyberpunk, are among my favs from this truly authentic artist and punk rocker. A great songwriter, musician, performer, and artist.
i'll take a remaster of this album, you know, anytime you get around to it. best album you ever did, boyo.
Billy has never lost his edge...Go see him live....you won't be disappointed...Billy you fuckin rock on bro!
CANNOT. MAKE. SONG. LOUD. ENOUGH!!!!
Gabriel Howard Turn your device into overdrive and Blair it on every speaker or bluetootht o ever exist so the earth is shaking with this song just screaming from everywhere.
LMFAO
Insisted that everybody read a book before the interview him, even though he had not read the book himself. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about it it’s a superficial treatment of a topic that is- based on his effort, out of his league and people spotted him on it.
He’s got some really good songs but this isn’t one of them and just looking at how weatherbeaten he is in his video and how weak his voice sounds it tells you that there are other things going on, responsible.
Feel you
I seriously don't understand why Cyberpunk wasn't a hit. MTV was king back then and I know that if I saw a video like this I'd run to the record store. So cool.
I agree. But back in early 90s the music world was in Grunge mode, which was kind of almost the polar opposite to electro Rock like this, so I guess that's why it didn't do well. And well, let's be honest, Cyberpunk isn't a strong album all the way through.
Having said that, I wonder what the reaction would have been if Idol's Cyberpunk would have been released in June of 1994 instead of June '93, in other words few months after NIN's Downward Spiral shook the earth.
Would people have loved it or just said "copying NIN there now?"
David Sutter The problem was that the rest of the album was pretty lousy.
/was one of the dumbasses who ran to the record store to pick it up
Golden age of MTV! :)
David Sutter could be thats when mtv sold their souls to hip hop & reality tv
MTV wouldn't air the video because it was too violent.
WAY TO GO BILLY!!!GREAT JAM.
I never listened to his music, when I was younger. But he is a genius , I have to admit, now. I like this style and his energy 🎼✌🤘😎
🇮🇹 NON C'È NIENTE DA FARE.....BILLY IDOL.... RIMANE COMUNQUE UN PERSONAGGIO UNICO NEL MONDO DELLO SPETTACOLO... QUANDO SENTO LE SUE CANZONI MI FANNO SALTARE IN ARIA .... GRANDE BILLY....✋🤑✋ SALUTI DALLA PUGLIA
This album was not well considered well it was released. I'd say that, now, these songs are really well done and highly prophetic. Idol is a sure visionary.
Even more when we see the yellow jacket and the police in France....
I've never heard an album like this. 10 years ahead of it's time, minimum. Incredible, and incredibly UNDERRATED. Even at the time, as a teenager, I was annoyed by some of the "in print" newspaper reviews about it that gave it 3/5 scores.
Yet... somehow it sounded horribly even by 2000.
It didn't sound BAD exactly, and never will.. but the futuristic cyberpunk sounds it predicted turned out a lot different. Like, Billie Eyelash singing dun dun. dun dun. dun dun dun dun. over and over.
Reviewers gave it 2/5 stars. RS said Billy should've called himself 'Billy Ray Idol' because of those 'hat acts' that passed for 'country' .
I remember this coming out at the time and seeing it getting decent play on MTV in the Summer of 93, it was exciting. It was like Billy had successfully moved into the 90's. The initial Buzz seemed to die out fast unfortunately, and past this single it was seemingly ignored. I still feel like it was the right move at the time. The album overall has a lot forgettable material, but the vibe, theme and electronic stance BI was taking then, holds up. Especially now.
Wow, I completely missed it in1993 (Grunge was everything then where I lived). just hearing it for the FIRST time in 2023!
Just one day in Cartersville was enough to remember forever 😂♾️❤ with very fond memories 😘❤️ FOREVER AND COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT 💀🪖🔨💪🏿❤️🗣️❤️ FOREVER ♾️ YOU HAVE BEEN ENLIGHTENED BY DIVINE GRACE AND MERCY ON THE EARTH 🌎❤🎉
Billy was ahead of the curve with this record. People just weren’t ready for it. Seriously underrated album in my opinion.
I the CD when it came out. I still have it. It's now on my itunes library, and my thumb drive for my vehicle
How do you know it's underrated?
@@gogoyubari366 Well it wasn’t his best selling album for sure and reviews were mixed at the time. Plus he didn’t release another album for another 12 years after it. I thought it was a great album personally. Different from Billy’s other work but change isn’t always a bad thing.
@@sandykemp7562 This album has some awesome guitar riffs.
People still aren’t ready. I’m predicting this album to really blow up in the 2700’s
Billy idol is a man of simple taste ⚡☄️
Great song, great album, great video. 🔥 TERMINUS ZONE 🔥
J'ai revu cet excellent clip sur une ancienne VHS ou était enregistré une soirée spéciale Terminator 2 sur Canal plus dans les année 90, il était diffusé avant le film 🤘
No one ever releases good music anymore, no exceptions at all ever; Billy Idol was truly the best thing to ever happen in the history of music, and mullets should still be fashionable. By the way I'm (insert age 18 or below here) and I appreciate this music.
I love this entire album!
So do I !🥰
My favorite song of billy IDOL
What music and ambiance, I love that ! A sequel for this Cyber Punk Album ??? ^^
Idol was ahead of the curve on the themes and ideas he explored in this concept album. It's not musically his strongest, but it's a really cool piece of art
Great song
Totally underrated disc.
Should have been a massive hit...but music was changing...only songs about how much you hated yourself/or your parents/or whatever was making the charts...
+Levin 1976 wasn't grunge in full swing at the time?
This is the only truly great song on it.
Well Its also missing Steve Stevens on guitar, Idol & Stevens together are a unbeatable team
lol? The full album is a masterpiece.
It was a huge hit in France in 1993
Non

Edison Mustaine Thrash 666 yr 2020 cyberpunk was a great album when it came out
Cyberpunk will be back in 2020 as a videogame.
And the world still burns...……...
Cyberpunk was and is Epic! Bought it back when it came out, and am still regularly playing it today!
I could wake up to this video everyday....Love it!
One of my favorite album
Unique! great personality
He’s corny
This music video is the embodiement of Cyberpunk.
The USA needs Billy now more than ever🙏 🇺🇸🔥
Why?... The guy is 67 years old.
@@Secular-hz9fn lol good point, I guess I'm saying we need his energy that he brings in his music.
This guy was way beyond his time!!
... and the world still burns.
the truth is that in the veins of those who love this song, the blood of an eternal rebel boy will always flow!!
Anyone discover this song for the first time because of the Lord of the Lost cover they just released today?
yeeeeeeeeeeeees
All this stop motion cyber morphing stuff really reminds me of the movie "Testuo 2 - Body hamnmer" - I love this song!!!
J'adore Billy idol
France Yéhoud oui moi aussi
This is perfection.
It's not what fans expected. But the album is solid and in some ways ahead of it's time.
Billy + Ciberpunk : Perfect.
best Haircut Ever
Cyberpunk .. very ahead of its time, Deeper messaging. Paved the way for NIN and Manson .. hard songs like NIN and then trance like Enigma... FRONT242 and Chemlab influnces ..Cybergoth outfits .. Billy going back to underground music of 1993. I loved it when it came out it was cutting edge but Billy had moslty normie fans and they didn't have the musical influences I had in 1993. I love all Billy's stuff but cyberpunk stands out as a masterpiece concept album.. hes announcing the new coming age of social media and it's impact on humanity... WAY BACK IN 1993 before internet was a thing .
I used to play the hell out of this album. Still put it on from time to time. This and Shotgun Messiah "Violent New Breed".
You should have put it in back in 1993 in your cd-rom since it was a concept album to digital media. You would have had an in-depth text interview and a link to some quicktime videos on his homepage. The album was way ahead of its time and basically sealed his "then" career.
Didn't have a PC back then. It was Amiga all the way :)
I love this song ❤️
High energy yell, some serious rock & thought.
What A Pair Of Balls on This Guy... FEARLESS
Great song and an awesome video!
Love this song
Энергия это по нашему!!!
This is the best Billy Idol song !!!
Eine lebende Legende !
TEAM IDOL !!!
It really rocks
I started listening to billy idol when I was 13 years old. I'm now 24. still good shit.
i started when i was 13 too , i'm now 50 and it seens good to me!!
I started listening to Billy Idol yesterday when I was 38 years old. I'm still 38. Good shit.
I started when i was 20 now im 20 👀
I went to billys concert on the first of may this year ten days before my twetieth birthday it was an early birthday present to myself and it was the greatest gift I have ever had. He opened with shock to the system and let me tell you. the man is sixty two years old and he can STILL put on a DAMN good show. It was my first, last, and only concert as a teenager...It was such an Amazing experience.
LOVES IT
His masterpiece, incredible album where he reaised the bar considerably compared to his previous works, is different and unique, a visionary ride out of pop grid. That boldness costed him too much and this record should be reconsdered. In fact consider this among the best records of all time, no weak track, powerful concept, great sounds. Even the Lou Reed cover is pure energy.
💕 love Billy's singing great singer
Me encanta
this song still kicks ass
I love this man 😍😍😍😍
Album criminalmente sottovalutato.
Billy grande visionario. Canzoni e testi ancora attuali. Billy sexy come sempre. Anche adesso a 66 anni è super figo ❤
Billy Idol. Cyberpunk is Master album. Thanxx it was and is madness
Even the video is ahead of its time
My top 5 songs from him..I love this man!!All th album kicks!
The best
Billy Idol is like a classic muscle car...they don't make them like they used to!!
Billy Idol lo más grande un ídolo
A style all his own..... Billy still kicks holy ass
An Artist... Avant Garde Allways... Bravo Billy!
And TODAY, MORE than EVER!!!!! Xo
Billy was SO far ahead of his time with Cyberpunk in general! You could put the CD in a computer and get videos which was unheard of then and the thematics were also way ahead of their time. Even the name Cyber was ahead of it's time. Dude was a major visionary.
LaserDisc was already a thing in ‘78
Best Idol Cyberpunk. Best Album He Did Ever!
So cool title on a song! I looked it up because of my hangover, it actually felt like a shock to the system... but it goes over, thank God.
Tetsuo, baby!
Look at you, hacker... How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?
Cyberpunk is my favorite album of all time.
Very cool track and music video with Cyborg visual effects Billy!!👍🏼👍🏼😎😎😃and a very cool Look and haircut!!😃I love it all!👍🏼👍🏼😎😎
Awesome song from an overlooked era of Billy Idol.
that video is still so futuristic. and it is 27years old. billy idol is a fucking music and video genious!!!
Billy is such an entertainer
Still provocative after all these years...😮
Ok that was fucking awesome man.
My dear friend, he was not fuckin awesome man, he is still fuckin awsome...just open new concert performances, like 2015, or Rock am Ring 2015...man he is fuckin terminator or Optimus Prime...
This album was SHAMEFULLY overlooked and ignored!! Ahead of it's time!!
This was the best track sadly, Billy should have gone the industrial route and rubbed shoulders with NIN. Worked for Bowie.
That albums was basically Billy Idol trying to be Kraftwerk, Killing Joke and Die Krupps all in one XD
@@DarkturtleX albums?? It was a single LP.
@@judd.l.thompson6671 What litelarly yourself said that its an Album what are you talking about XD
I think a lot of the tracks on this album are great, I think the only song on there that's a stinker is "Adam in chains" (and even that song isn't unsalvageable, it's really only the moaning and voice over stuff that ruins it). The "Heroin" cover (Velvet Underground) is one of my all time favorites.
Love this video!
Awesome!!! Wow what a cool vid!
