the lesson learned here really is ‘don’t compete with yourself’ bc all these game did was draw existing fans away from smite, not bring new people in
so true
It clearly can be done though as evidenced with League. I play TFT and LoR and loved Arcane despite almost never playing and not really liking League.
@@Inters3ct True but the bigger something is the easier it can eat loss and LoL being the biggest MOBA in the world means they can afford to as many times as they want, whereas Hirez doesn’t seem to have that kinda leeway imo
@@Inters3ctthat smite TFT game would’ve been super cool, I don’t even play league and I played tft on my phone all the time, if they had a smite version I would’ve just played that, they def missed a good opportunity
Worst part is the community essentially begged for smite 2 through each of these flops. Imagine if they had actually been working on the sequel this entire time instead.
They all had to die so that Hirez would cave and give us Smite 2.
And from what it seems a lot of smite players are just praying on smite 2s downfall
@@beasttaergaming6245 Yeah, but let's be honest, if Smite 2 fails Hirez isn't gonna just magically go back to supporting Smite. They're upgrading for multiple good reasons which they've already explained.
I really wish more people understood that Smite 2 is still so far from public launch that it will probably only vaguely resemble what it is now.
Prophecy and hand of the gods were great. Im still sad prophecy died
The problem is the Hi-Rez doesn’t innovate, they simply follow trends and end up getting in the space too late.
I genuinely loved DKO and I played it for months after the last update, the game was so much fun but it didn’t get any support when it was needed
Prophecy was so good and the decision to shut it down came so out of left field, felt like it wasn't even given a chance.
As someone who plays a lot of card games, Hand of the Gods was quite good and unique enough.
Sadly, it launched too close to Hearthstone's peak. And back then their expansions were absolute bangers back to back for like 2.5 years. Even Runeterra would have flopped if it launched around that time.
The only one I'm actually a bit sad for is Hand of the Gods, that one looked quite fun and interesting and could've really become something good.
Prophecy was the only one that I was sad to see go and its crazy how short its lifespan was. Imagine if they just put it in the smite launcher like league did with tft
Agreed with prophecy having the most potential. Dumb to say because that's not how companies work but I wish they revisit the idea, genuinely think it could find an audience
When I heard "Smite based fighting game" way before DKO was officially announced, I imagined something more akin to 2XKO (Which is a stupid fucking name but whatever), got my hopes up of a traditional 2d fighter with combos and input based special moves, it would've totally worked in this universe especially seeing as no one has yet pulled off a successful fighting game that focused on mythological character. I was immediately let down when I seen the first trailers of DKO. I still think a traditional 2D fighter would work with the IP, but I highly doubt it'll ever come to fruition.
Prophecy still hurts to this day :(
DKO really needed a ranked mode at the start
I had no idea there were so many..
I am still mad about Prophecy, liked it more then TFT and played a shitton.
A Smite metrovania would be pretty cool, single player, different God stories as dlc and it becomes repayable single player in the Smite universe. That would sell.
How long until smite 2 is added to the list?
I wish devs could understand that following trends actually lowers your success chances
Smite 2 is going to be the next one. Don’t boo me, I’m right
Funny how HiRez think we want to play a different game other than Smite.
Brotha, if we could play other game we would, we can’t, we like torture.
I can’t believe I grinded smite blitz which was not good to get the Loki skin and then they just gave it away tier one of a battlepass
Tbh they just need to make a game based on trials of hercules and xing tians mountain and it'll go great
I was playing DKO. Actually, that is the reason I'm playing smite today. I was a fighting game player before, and my fav game was Brawlhalla, which is also platform fighting game, thats why I liked dko. Brawlhalla's downfall started the same time as dko's death, so I tried smite, and I still play it, not on a very high level tho...
The auto battler was really fun for the 3 days people played it 😢
I feel like jetpack fighter was a fever dream
I played a little hand of the gods and DKO. Both were really fun. HOG was too "pay to win" for me and DKO needed more content and to focus on the 1 life game mode and not the less fun ones imo.
Also DKO wasnt free like the other games so lack of content made that game even worse
(Also nice content man keep it up. You are the spiritual successor to MaxTooTheLimit's old videos with Mythymoo)
I wish prophecy was still around. I would’ve loved to play it
2:01 song?
I actually really liked DKO, clocking in 30 hours before the Loki update, which I never even played because the game was already pretty much dead by then. I think the game had genuine potential because as far as I know, there are no popular 3D smash bros games.
It just launched in a mediocre state with many unbalanced aspects, slow updates to fix this issue and when the updates did happen they just missed the mark on what needed to be done. Also the only way to play the game ranked was solo or duel, despite the trios being arguably infinitely more fun but exclusive to the arcade mode which I think neither solos or duos even got? I understand not spreading your playerbase too thin but that's just the weirdest design to me. The game needed a lot of work don't get me wrong but the core that all games need, it had, which was fun. DKO was genuinely a blast to play, learning some combos etc, although the combos for sure weren't always fun to play against.
TL;DR: slow and meaningless updates killed a possible gem
I played prophecy and it was fun with they could integrate it into the smite client maybe for smite 2, or maybe some other kind of minigame. Teamfight Tactics definitely got a massive boost from being baked into the League of legends client.
Why does dko actually look really fun
This is missing an underrated spin-off: trying to play Smite on Nintendo Switch (2018-2022) 😂😂😂
Loved prophecy tbh, they were very quick to close a game they never pushed in any way
I know some people didn't like Hi-Rez's attempts at spin-offs, but I never minded them. You never want to put all your eggs in one basket after all. However, as stated in another comment, Hi-Rez was competing with themselves just as much as they were competing with other games. All of Hi-Rez's successful games are F2P, PvP games. That's a massive genre that includes some of the biggest titles in the industry. Unless you have a certified banger, it's super hard to break into that pool. If Hi-Rez made another spin-off down the line, I'd like to see them try and make a small scale, singleplayer title. This way, whoever's making the game can try some things that might not work in a PvP style game while Hi-Rez doesn't have to deal with the costs of servers and all the work that comes with maintaining an online game. If it fails, then it wasn't too much of an investment. In comparison to a larger, online title, a small singleplayer game wouldn't need as much revenue to be considered a financial success. Of course, I'd hope Hi-Rez would save the idea of any spin-off titles for later so they can focus on Smite 2.
Hand of the gods was genuinely fun and i wish it succeeded more
I'm very used to HiRez shutting down everything I love in favor of SMITE (it's become so frequent at this point I've stopped trying) so it doesn't surprise me how fast the turnaround on these are, especially those that are actually doing something for them. Still sucks not being able to play a lot of them anymore. I have no doubt if there was still a dedicated Global Agenda or DKO community I'd still be playing both
I will always think that HiRez is messing up by not doing what they originally wanted to do before Smite and making an RPG of some kind. They already have all the experience to do it.
I just wanna point out, because not many people know about it. But Hi-Rez specifically copied Duelyst when they did Smite Tactics. I wasn't mad about it, but it didn't go anywhere. I loved Duelyst.
They need to make Oregon Trail, but Smite.
It might be crazy enough to work.
I thought DKO was the only title out of all of these that actually had something new to the table
yes its smash bros but that 3rd dimension could've added so much
I think they just fell flat with imagining the possibilities that 3 dimensions adds - so many of the maps were just bad
but I thought that DKO was an insanely fun game
I miss prophecy, I put 50 hours into this, really fun game
Smite tactics was really fun
And we can soon add Smite 2
It’s a shame they gave up on prophecy it actually had potential.
I'm sad they shutdown jetpack fighters it was a vary uniquely fun mobile game that really utilized the strengths of mobile as a platform
DKO was good; it was the best from the spin-offs, but sadly, there were no updates or players.
💀 that game was awful, did we play the same game?
The only one I played was Hand Of The Gods and I actually liked it a lot, for a while I played more than I was playing Smite but unfortunately the lack of care for the game both from the players and the Hirez itself killed it, I remember waiting almost an hour to get a match because there was basically no one playing it 😔
Maybe they can try a new version with more pantheons and Gods after Smite2 gets a good number of players and they can invest in a new game and marketing
DKO was the only spin-off I got to play because I was on console till just recently. But I loved it and played it for months after the last patch. Maybe I’m biased b/c it’s the only one I played and b/c I love smash bros, but I thought it was so fun and had potential but they just abandoned it
RIP HotG. Amazing game.
DKO never gave me a reason to replay the game
I wish prophecy would of lived, i love games like it. And a smite version was so good
i liked hand of the gods and its sad that whole genre died. Duelyst still exist but it has a very small player base....
I actually liked Smite Tactics. I forgot Rivals existed and Smite Blitz can go die in a ditch. DKO was fun, but not the system grind.
They should make a 2D fighting game
Granted, it would have more work than Warframe's version, but a Smite fighting game feels like it would fall into that
Honestly would be a better attempt than any of this failures. They even made a joke 2d animation on their channel years ago, so they surely have thought about it
Dko was fun bring it back
i actually really liked DKO and i thought it had potential, a shame it died so fast
Does anyone remember the game solely made for the Nemesis skin? 😂
I wanted DKO to be good. It was genuinely fun 😢
I really miss Hand of the Gods really feel like it could have been great if they kept updating it.
If DKO was 20 bucks on steam and had local and pvp through steam I would buy it. Its a good enough battle game to play with buddies or your discord server.
Hi rez loves to fish for instant success non of these games ever had a full year of support I wish they still pushed dko and hands of the gods I liked those two
Hi-Rez is just trying to chase trends praying that the fanbase they already have for smite somehow plays their new game while also playing smite, which is really fucking annoying tbh. Most games feel like soulless cash grabs praying that they can get some of that current trend money. Paladins did fairly well, tribes: ascend had a niche, but very loyal fanbase for a game with a really cool concept. I think they should have tried on IPs that they established before like Tribes: Ascend that are actually unique and has shown that it can hold players.
I only play hands of gods and blitz. The first one was funny and I spend a lot of time on it, the second was terrible and with a lot of bugs 😅
RIP Hand of the Gods
I really liked dko
I liked hand of gods 😢
Hand of the gods made me realise card games arent shit lol
DKO could’ve succeeded, but paywalling it, instead of releasing straight Free2Play with a cash shop, was a major miscalculation.
It also showed that casual players don’t keep the Smite IP turning. So, they should’ve learned to dedicate their attention to hardcore players after that.
DKO only failed imo because it was a paid game if it was FTP off rip instead of just for a week it'd have actually gained players
it was super fun and had potential they just shoot themselves in the foot way to often.
Smite has never had a good spin off, Paladins has never had a good base game. solution? make a smite hero shooter with the paladins team
Smite 2
Quo vadis? FAIL IDEA
I love hirez games don’t really like hirez. Great ideas but bad handling. It’s funny too because I only know hirez of their failures not there wins
Originality 0
dead game and its dead spin offs 🤣
Smite 2 is a dead spinoff game. They changed it to much instead of updating
Funny how many players complain it's too minor of an update.

Спасибо за ностальгию по hand of the gods и smite blitz
First time I hear about Smite Blitz and my first reaction was "What the fuck is this piece of shit ?"
You sound like a 10 year old that just found out about swears
@@CodyWithAnA Nah, just the pure truth about my reaction. Smite Blitz really look like a rip-off of a rip-off. Can't have a genuine opinion on something I guess. You're probably the 10 years old here my guy.
Only 6 views? Inter fell off 😢
You’re annoying shut the hell up bot
@@ninepalatine2099why so mad lil guy?
Same oeople making smite 2 let that sink in.
And you wonder why Hi-Rez can't afford to port skins over to smite 2 and instead give us a 50% coupon on smite 2 skins smh. Way to respect your player base.
No, that's definitely not the reason at all.
I wish I could've played hand of the gods. Fun concept with units I like.
