- São Jorge is a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It is also home to one of the richest and most elaborate cheeses on Earth: São Jorge cheese. The volcanic geology of the island means that its soil is rich and fertile. Its location in the middle of the ocean guarantees a mild, damp climate all year round. The result is abundant vegetation that basically never dies and cows that are able to graze freely 365 days a year. These conditions pack São Jorge cheese with moisture, hints of spiciness, and a grassy scent.

How One Of Portugal’s Rarest Cheeses Is Made On A Remote Volcanic Island | Regional Eats
I am just amazed at how Claudia can understand Portugese when she is Italian who also speaks French and English. Kudos to this family who's still making cheese the traditional way even though most on the islands are producing it commercially. I hope they have a fair chance at selling their cheese.
Hi dear will love to share this with you
I don't know who needs to hear this, you've got to stop saving money. Invest some part of it, if you really want financial freedom, Investing for today is priceless because tomorrow isn't promised, trading bit-coins, gold, silver and crypto secures a better tomorrow
I will recommend Mrs Maria Margaret powers you can look up to her portfolio online she will be of a great help to you.
Pretty sure she knows Spanish
I encourage everyone to learn a Latin language. I am Scottish and can speak Spanish and it's quite surprising how much you understand Italian/Portuguese.
The Azores are stunning. I would've thought this was some where in Ireland or the UK if no one told me. For a small country, Portugal got a lot to offer.
I fell in love with Portugal too...🙂
I've posted a travel film about my connection to Portugal too..you should check it out. 😇🇵🇹
Was there during wc 2018
We feel happy that you loved your stay. We always work hard so that you return to my country and be happy here.

Claudia is a phenomenal host. Polyglots are so rare, and to be so genuine in her approach makes for an incredible talent.
There is a Portuguese bakery in my city in Quebec that sells this cheese and it is one of my favourites!

I visited azores once for 8 days.. Best trip ever. Their cheese plate on the main island was 8e and the best cheese i ever had with fresh bread and pineapple, pumpkin and chilli jam. All you need is a glass or two of nice wine and your soul thrives like it never did before
I fell in love with Portugal too...🙂

Claudia’s vídeos are great. I love seeing European foods getting a proper highlight
European cuisine has always gotten a proper highlight compared to the rest of the world.
I'll be honest, the food content is great. But I am mesmerized by Claudia!
Awesome program! I love that you featured this small family cheese making business.
*Another excellent episode.*
And of course Claudia understands Portuguese. 😀
I had a cheese plate when I visited Lisbon. I wonder if São Jorge was included.

@@raquelafonso3275 Is not that uncommon Raquel, I'm used to eat it since child and my father just brought a big slice from the supermarket a couple of days ago. Sadly not from Queijaria Canada :(

I've been waiting on this video since the cheese series started! My parents were born and raised on the islands, and I've always had a pride for the Azores! St George cheeze on a Portuguese roll (papo seco) with some butter is a staple in my house!
You are making me jealous.. Its been 20 years since I've had warm papo secos and butter or cheese! Thanks for bringing back memories.
I wonder if Cláudia is going to have a bread series..
No butter for me please. To much grease, and the wonderful cheese taste it's more than enough
That cheese is just beautiful. Also Claudia is just amazing. 👏
Regardless of the subject matter, it's always fascinating to see an expert talk about the intricacies and nuances of their craft in a passionate manner.
CHEESE!!!!

You know its all going to be some real good stuff when you hear Claudia's voice in Business Insider 🌟🌟🌟
1:44 wow the color of that milk is to die for 🤤 nothing like raw milk from grass fed cows

Small family business with such a big cultural impact on Azorean Culture!
Here in The States (Rhode Island,New Jersey, California, ect.) This cheese can be found in local Portuguese bakeries! Its absolutely delicious!!

Cheese so yummy
Have you tried Cheezeaholics?
@@tomperkins5657 nope... But just hearing it makes me want to. What's it about?
@@mrgoober8805 Step 1: "We recognized we were powerless over cheese and that our lives had become unmanageable." Step 2 "Came to believe that a power greater than cheese could restore us to sanity." We cheesaholics realize we have no control when it comes to cheese. "Half measure availed us nothing." "There is no such thing as a 'little bite' from a cheese tray or grated cheese on our salad, etc. There really is life after cheese.
It is now on my bucket list. Thank you!
Quejo Sao Jorge is one of my families favorite cheeses. We can readily get it in the Portuguese markets here in the US. It is delicious 😋
omg omg omg omg omg omg another episode!!!! Much love @Claudia
I want to try this cheese now, specifically from this guys company. Smaller batch made food tends to be so much better and just higher quality.
Jerry had a bit of these on his hand everytime 😂 CARTOONS ☮️

I visited the Azores 20+ years ago when I was 18, and I have always remembered this cheese. Street vendors sold papo secos sandwiches with sliced pork and this amazing cheese for like 50 cents. An absolutely indelible food memory that I long to recreate one day.

I can't live without "queijo da ilha" in my house. Grated on top of pasta..hmmm so, so god!
Looks tasty
Hearing foreign people talk about stuff in my country always makes me happy cuz nobody ever speaks of portugal
me as a azorean, i feel proud of foreign people discover azores. we also have other kinds of cheeses like « queijo de cabra»(goat cheese) wich is made out of goat milk and it is very polpular around azores and a good goat cheese is served with « massa malagueta» (chili pepper paste) we also have « queijo vaquinha » (little cow cheese) but its just the name of the company that produces the cheese the chesse has lots o types of seasoning but you can choose what flavor you want between spicy or with aromatic herbs and etc and i am impressed because claudia understands our language wich a lot of people think dificult. finally people from other country are seeing what azores realy is.
Looks delicious enough from the description.
this is the place where i come to watch cheese videos.
This is my favourite cheese!!
Make yourself a favor and visit São Miguel island. Is one of the nicest natural places ever. So untouched.

In love with the host
Gotta love cheese
I'd love to see an episode on the Canary Island's cheeses. They are similarly small Atlantic islands, but because the climate is different, they raise sheep and goats rather than cows and make cheese from the milk. It's another well-kept secret, the cheeses pretty much exclusively sold on the islands, rather than exported. I'd be really interested to see a regional eats episode on it.
canary Islands are Moroccan 🇲🇦 ,what are you talking about ??
stop colonization .
Yes
Now you gotta make a video about Serra da Estrela Cheese
Now how do I eat the kraft slice cheese in my refrigerator
Abraço Por estes Trabalhadores,
I want to go there someday
We are just incredible ! This girl goes all around Europe making this interviews always speaking every countries language. Then she comes to azores and we have to understand English ?! The best part is that we do !!! Go azores!!!!
Portugal is the greatest country in the world 🇵🇹
The hydrangeas are beautiful..
Yummy 😋😋😋😋
Is it just me or when she said “Its is really wet inside” She chuckled 😆
I don’t think I have ever had this cheese. I will have to find it and try it.
I'm surprised Claudia can understand European Portuguese better than I, a Spanish speaker. I know she speaks other Romance languages (native Italian, decent French, and some Spanish), but I hear from many Italians that European Portuguese just sounds completely alien (the joke is that it sounds like Russian, more so than even Romanian), though the written text ain't that bad. Normally it is much easier for Spanish speakers to understand Portuguese (especially Brazilian Portuguese) better than other Romance language speakers, since the languages are much closer to each other. But, wow, I'm impressed with Claudia's skills. Guess she can now add that to her already overqualified resume.
Don't worry, even for Portuguese natives, Azorean accent is terribly thick and if he wasn't speaking super slow, it most likely would not be inteligeble.
@@IMedinasI The "Azorean" accent doesn't exist, what you are refering to is the São Miguel's accent which is indeed very pronounced. São Jorge's people have an accent similar to what you heard in the video.
