    WHAT'S YOUR FAV TUNING?
Just got some time to check a bit of my gear more in detail. Never have been into those Evans Hydraulic stuff before and was curious how it will sound on a snare. What you hear is a combination of a Tama Starphonic copper snare and a Evans Hydraulic red drumhead in different tunings.

Ever since I heard Alex Van Halen's snare tuned high, I loved it. The high tuning here reminds me of it.

Test drove one of these at Gearfest last year at Sweetwater. One of the most ear satisfying snares I’ve ever played. Amazing clarity with both accents and grace notes. It can handle every bit of subtlety or power you throw at it. Tama Copper Starphonic. Unreal!

Glad I’m not the only one who uses those on the snare. I’ve been a hydraulic head user since the 80’s and have taken much ribbing over it.
Accused of “playing cardboard boxes”, “still stuck in the 70’s” etc. for many years.
Now all that is vindicated by a star like her making them “cool”.
I use the ebony coated hydraulic on my mahogany shelled Gretsch and keep it about a mid tune. This gives me that fat, wet 70’s thud many players love.
If I want a higher, hip-hoppish sound, I’ll pull out the Rogers Powertone CoB snare with the clear blue hydraulic that’s cranked up high.
Hydraulic’s offer a tuning range and overtone control not found on other heads. Add the quick attack and quick fade makes them perfect for live as the vocals and guitars will hide any resonance tuning you spent all afternoon achieving.

  • @FritoBanditoMusicVideos

I actually liked all of them. Each tuning has a use in different musical applications that would make it ideal for the situation/song without multiple snares/heads. For instance a Beatles song with a wet fat damp towel over the head sound as apposed to a Police tune with the tight crack. This head and snare combo would do the job nicely for both situations... Now you don't have to bring a dozen snares to a gig. You have all the tools for the job in one bag.... But I'm sure you like me will still end up owning a half million snares, I can't help myself(LOL)...
Thanks Anika for the review!!! 🤘🤩🤘Frito

    Hi Anika,
Mach weiter so, ich feier deine Videos!!
    LG vom Wingelschweinchen ;)
