- 1 year has come and gone since the release of AEW Fighter Forever, and I figured now's a good time to look back at what the game was then, and what it is now. Have there been updates? Yes. Are they what we were looking for? Hey, that's what we'll get into here today. Are you ready? Let's get to it.

AEW: Fight for a Few Minutes
This should be top comment

AEW : WHY?
With nintendo switch on the go a short match while being in line, or a traffic jam is fitting, but when docked I'd love a tougher health meter.
PLS 😂
This is probably the most mature take I've seen on the game. I don't love the game, but it's not some awful mess like a ton of people online are making it out to be
It's easier to be extremely negative and OH MY GOD THIS IS THE WORST GAME EVER and unfortunately, most people will click on that over-acted garbage over something like this. Thank you for watching.
This needs the “big update”
1. Create a PPV
2. Choose your Casino participants and order.
3. Revolving season mode with stories and creator control involved.
4. More match types.
5. Fresh set of real arenas.
What about a revamped Road to Elite where every decision made by players truly impact the flow of the story a la WWF No Mercy.
Better Tag Team mechanics
@@ripperzbyszko3322 nah, just give us a ring in the theme park or some other dumb shit no asked for.

RIP Patches, sorry for your loss
The worst part about the cage match being missing is that the cage is in a minigame
As far as wrestling games go im still playing WWE 2k19 and I'll go back and play the old Smackdown games here and there.
2k19 will never die.
It really does suck that just 1 year later, Fight Forever just feels very underwhelming compared to the classics that it promised to be like. We don’t have multi person ladder matches in Exhibition, no Tornado Tag matches, no Steel Cage matches, no Falls Count Anywhere matches outside of 1v1, a lot of the major names are still missing, missing arenas like Collision, no backstage areas to explore or announce tables to break, and so much more. It truly sucks that it had to go out like this, but I guess it is what it is. I truly hope if AEW does another video game of sorts in the future, I hope it manages to improve from these flaws to give us fans a much better game that we can sink our teeth into like the classics.
Nice video, Ian, and I hope you and all the DanDans have a lovely week, remember to stay safe, and I love you all. Peace✌️😊❤️
They don’t even have to improve much, stick to the base gameplay and just add more fucking content.
Even that Mdickie wrestling empire game has more love and depth than this game
the lack of content isn’t the biggest problem. the game itself isn’t polished enough. the reversal/counter system literally doesn’t work properly, even a full year after the release.
@@CulEdz the base gameplay has a lot of issues too. Reversal and pin systems are problematic. Only one pin animation. It’s very floaty. The grapple whiffs in strange ways.
I bought it on Day 1 and thought it was fun for a few days, but there wasn't enough there to keep me coming back. I wish the DLC had new trophies/achievements, which at least would give me a reason to start playing again.
Its crazy to me how Fire Pro World, which released 7 years ago still feels like it has more in the tank than Fight Forever. Skimping on the Creation Suite is a large factor to what killed this game sadly.
Nailed it I feel like you would be better off downloading some of the aew roster and the ring on fire pro and having more fun
Baron von LECTOR is the most simple/basic wrestler to create (karate pants, ninja boots, taped fingers, big beard, viking ponytail). I couldn't even come close to creating.
100 % true. Game modes could have been super sparse as long as the creation suite wasn't. Sadly tho, it is
For real. I got Fire Pro World on Day 1 and I still play it. I downloaded AEW when it was free and uninstalled it 2 days later.
@@BaronLectorI think I gonna create that in FPWW, which wrestler face would work best?
Huge AKI wrestling game fan and was super hyped for this only for it to be a bit disappointing. It really looks like Ultra Pro Wrestling will be the true No Mercy successor. The developers are even copying the exact same animations for the AKI games but with an overall modern sheen. Can’t wait for it.
Looks like a potentially good game, but I don't understand why all the real wrestlers are DLC instead of just being in the base game.
@@LokiTricksterGyou really can’t? I’ll tell you then: MONEY
@@LokiTricksterG probably because signing guys for appearance in the game costs money. From the developer the DLC guys can set their own price and then they get a 50% cut from each purchase of their character.
@@PlaystationFyve then if that’s ok then it’s fine for AEW to lock their roster behind a paywall
@@vashonnoel never said it was ok I just explained why
It feels like this game came out years ago lol. I haven’t played since launch. My 8 year old would occasionally get on but hasn’t touched it since 2k24 came out.
I cant speak for fight forever but this channel is the reason i gave the fire pro series another chance. In march of last year my mom broke her shoulder shes doing much better these days but i had to move in for a month and look after her untill she could get around on her own better. she immediately began driving me nuts as moms tend to do sometimes and it was fire pro world and the first season of gm showdown that got me through.
For free with PS Plus, you're just about getting what you pay for
Got the Physical Game from Walmart for $10 all because I was listening to Jim Cornette’s Podcast and they mentioned it… I would have never known otherwise…
I got this when it was free, unistalled 2 days later. I still play Fire Pro World, Fire Pro Returns and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2.
stadium stampede should ve been an online and offline mode
Three cheers for DanDan Dangerman👍👍
I don't regret any of my time with this game, I really enjoyed its simplicity and depth of that makes sense. Once I got the platinum I uninstalled it though. I was really excited for this to be the beginning of hard work on a sequel but I don't ever see that happening which is a total bummer. From day one when they kept saying "we want this to be a platform" I was worried because nobody ever gets it right enough the first time to justify that as the platform. Iteration and correction on a sequel could have made this one of the greats, but they just continue to throw more wrestlers at it like that's going to solve its problems and it's not.......sounds par for the AEW course.
Great look back Ian, keep up the great work.
The bigger problem if they make a second game it’s more then likely gonna be better gameplay wise but won’t sell as well because of the first games mistakes
I bought this game brand new. 80 damn dollars... Haven't touched it since 2 weeks after lunch
Sell that shit. At least get 50 bucks back. Too late now

Lol that dude is gonna end up on 2K25
They had a 2nd game already, it was released for the Nintendo DS.
I appreciate your reviews. When you sang it's praises last year I thought if Ian likes it it's probably a good game. I bought it for $20 earlier this year but haven't had time to sit down and enjoy it haha
When you find the time, let me know what you think. It’s a fun game, it’s just shallow. And unfortunately, very little depth was delivered over time. =\
gameplay question in the situation of a pinfall do you smash the buttoms randomly or do you follow a specific order
I believe in Joe Hendry!! 👏 👏
The narrative from the last year that’s always perplexed me was “This game was made by Yuke’s with the help of the No Mercy director” and in the same breath “relax it’s their first game.”
My response for the last year has remained the same, videogames are not made in a vacuum and you can look over at what the other guy is doing and copy what works. This isn’t 30 years ago when the pool of successful wrestling games was very small.
FF will always be a what could have been rather than a what was. A No Mercy AEW reskin would have been better than this game. Oh well. Upward and onwards. Hopefully Ultra Pro Wrestling is what this game should have been.
I love your analysis on this. I saw everything the game had to offer in 45 mins of playing this.
For a game named Fight Forever, we didn't exactly Play Forever
the game is entertaining but could have been better and I don't think we should pay for each season!!!! it should be free for the DLC!!!! I never be bored of this game but needs improvement

Ian your review of this game is the reason why I didn’t get it at launch. I saw only 7 matches and said hell no ! Thank you for easily helping me save 60 bucks lol
Do you think there will be a year 2 of dlc? I’ve heard nothing and some ppl said no more dlcs after jay white

Ive been an AEW fan since day 1 and I also lost interest in the shows for a while, especially after the Punk drama. I still watched Dynamite every week, but it might have been later on a Thursday or Friday. I've been back to watching every Wednesday night again (using Fite tv with a VPN) and they're finally getting their feet back under them and they're making changes. Most matches now have stories attached to them instead of feeling thrown together, they're doing more promos to help build feuds, wrestlers aren't appearing on TV then dissappearing for a month, top talent is coming back from long injuries, and MJF is back to being the most hated bastard in the business. The new writers seem to be having an effect and Tony seems to be listening to them. All good things. Now we just have to see if they can keep it up and get their momentum back.
Get this man a sponsorship
uh Ian the opening graphics for the Patreon goals is not updated
Whoops! Ignore that.
I haven't even played the game since it released believe it or not. The WWE 2K games have had my undivided attention since 2K22. Those games have only gotten better, especially with the most recent game. I even feel that Fire Pro Wrestling World outshines Fight Forever, to me at least. AEW Fight Forever is definitely not a bad game, but it's just not the type of game that would intice me to buy it. Especially when I can just download AEW wrestlers, arenas and belts in 2K and FPW.
I went all in way before day one. yukes had me excited and i payed full price and upfront and then they do the season stuff and i felt slapped for for it, i understand needing profit but we could get alot of the undercard ppl for free or ROH. I was a number 1 person to give them every chance, and they took my money and wanted more for what we should of had, Id rather pay for a yearly title that gets updated slightly then keep paying for dlc. We need the games to evolve and right now it just sits still as is.... Also wwe 2k20 had all those arenas for their dlc, wonder if it was a yukes thing, 2k20 had a cyberpunk street corner lol
Dude you kinda knew what you were getting into though
I wanted so much for Fight Forever to be what it looks like Ultra Pro Wrestling actually will be. Looking to do any UPW content soon?
Also, I'm 🚫 on X not sure why (was it the tags?) hope to have that sorted I enjoy your content
Great video, Ian. I hope AEW Games, Yuke's, and THQ Nordic listens to someone who gave them a rare positive review. I think you, OSW Review, and Matt McMuscles were the only major ones to do so.
Melonbread1979 has a mod for FF with 3X health and other gameplay fixes which seem like they would easy for Yuke's to implement. All the AKI games and Fire Pro had health regeneration. Maybe they're all waiting on money from AEW's TV deal? Either way, I'm glad Melonbread is working with Ultra Pro Wrestling.
Also I think people would dislike the button-mashing if there was a HUD option so they could see what's going on. People are complaining about tearing their controllers up.
I like the fantasy arenas, but there has been so many new AEW PPVs like Wrestle Dream and World End plus old themed shows like Battle of the Belts, Fyter Fest, Chris Jericho Rock N Wrestling Rager etc. There should at least be parts for them in create an arena.
Cage match is needed but there's also a handful of matches you encounter in Road to Elite like handicap (with and without tag) and gauntlet matches that aren't available in exhibition. Where's Texas tornado, Tag Ladder, Selectable suits in Casino Battle Royal? Exploding Barbwire besides just 1-on1? And there are no match toggles. I'd love to see something like WWF No Mercy's Survival Mode or WWE Smackdown's Slobberknocker. JR is there and, hell so is Taz, call it Rocketbuster Mode for all I care.
And put some ability points in the shop so I have something to buy and I don't have to run every single CAW through RTE.
"Room for improvement" key phrase.
What's up, bro? It's been awhile since I've commented on one of your vids. I have Fight Forever but work and other responsibilities have kept me from playing it. I've heard the game leaves a lot to be desired, but I'll still give it a try. Anyway, keep rolling out the great content.
I downloaded it tried to make a wrestler realized that was garbage tried a basic match with roster wrestlers and was so bored I uninstalled
What do you !San worse games released in the future?
The problem they have now is the wwe 2k games are actually good now and this isn’t a wwe vs AEW mindset i stopped playing wwe games after 2k16 then picked up the last 3 and have got better each year
I hoped this was coming love your takes ian 🤙🏽
Full Entrances, Community Creations, Backstage/Crowd Fights, More Match Types, Universe Mode, A better Kickout System (its crazy) and I would be absolutly fine... I love the gameplay and looks of the game tbh and the sound (crowd) is amazing and ten times better than in WWE 2K games
I really enjoyed playing people in ranked games online but when no one was showing up, it was over.
I just bought it on the STEAM summer sale for $15 Cdn. I like the old wrestling games SO I'll soon see if I like this one.
He’ll have his own experience.
the moment I compared AEW Fight Forever to Day of Reckoning 2, a game that came out in 2005, immediately killed it for me
I agree with most points. I still really enjoy the game and I have all the DLC, I thonk the DLC characters are insanely well made. What I'm missing is more aprons to make shows like collision and PPV, cage match, and I want full entrances. Not having full entrances actually hurt the game a lot imo. I want to get the atmosphere before I start a match. A couple 5 second entrances isn't enough.
With all that said, I still enjoy the game ❤️
I can agree with what you’re saying here. It felt like a breath of fresh air when it hit, I had a great time with the gameplay and enjoyed my time with the story mode. But one of the reasons I used to love No Mercy so much was the CAW, which I was hoping to see Fight Forever give a major update post-launch. Sadly, that never happened. I’m willing to give a new game a chance if they come out the gate with great gameplay, improve on the things you mentioned, and with a HUGE CAW upgrade.
This was a good video I thoroughly enjoyed it but it's Monday and I was looking forward to mortal kombat Monday I'm guessing you are in between seasons and hopefully will see more mortal kombat kontent lol
MK Monday Season 4 was 52 episodes, an entire year long. Last week was indeed the finale, I’d been talking about it for a while. No MK for a bit.
@616Entertainment I definitely look forward to more new mortal kombat stuff but will enjoy your content until then
Every few months someone mentions the AEW game and it reminds me I’ve had it since launch on Switch and I just don’t bother to play it. Maybe I’ll play for a bit today. Maybe.
crazy to think a year later this game is free when i bought this on launch day the regular edition (didnt have the elite one with FTR & Season Pass) here in canada) full price. At the time i was hyped for it but aftr i unlocked everything, well there was nothing else to do really after doing as much creation which was very limited - ALL my CAWS that i made of my favourite local indy wrestlers looke identical male and female due to the lack of creation. I think they added more stuff to the creation suite but havent bothered to look.
you all are lucky I cant even get the game where i stay, only digital and it costs me way to much, so just be grateful you guys can play it..
I enjoy stadium stampede , wish there were teams though. Wish it had different maps so its not the same setting everytime .
The core gameplay is good, but the amount of resources that went into the mini games and a very lackluster CAW suite could’ve been used on more match types instead. Right now with a just tweak of the AI. You can add a Submission Match, 2/3 Falls, Tornado Tag, Handicap, Tables Match, Gauntlet, First Blood and a Backstage Brawl using sections of Stadium Stampede. Add a coffin and Cage Match and that would’ve been an awesome set of match types out of the gate. Second, adding a wardrobe feature for updated attires for current AEW stars would’ve gone a long way in getting a Jack Perry, Timeless Toni or Killswitch added. The CAW is so bare bones it’s almost embarrassing they even tried. It would’ve been so much better to get new attires on a monthly basis so you can update your wrestlers as they are on TV. The things they have added as content is straight up trash, a tournament mode you can set up on your own, the beat the elite is another 1v1 exhibition you can do on your own and those community creations that others have done that you can’t remove or edit in battle royal mode is straight up lunacy. Also, the AI and pin system needed severe tweaking, if those things would’ve been added and maybe another 3 season passes to add some missing arenas and wrestlers. This game would’ve been a solid A- instead it’s a D+ for the developers doing absolutely nothing but adding more wrestlers and charging a fortune.
I've yet to play this game. Hopefully 1 day I'll try it
Good afternoon
I'm still playing and it's awesome, only need more match types.
WWE games had this meter for match momentum (Quick, Normal, Epic) where the match length would be determined by what the meter was set to. I'd love to see AEW add this in a sequel. As is, I like the game, but the DLC was a huge turn off for me. Buying the Elite Edition at launch should've given folks access to these features without additional transactions. Reselling the game with everything added is a slap in the face too.
Good foundation. In desperate need of more features
@@truthseeker1867 Yes and I still think both with it being a full release. They’ve added some things but it’s not worth the season pass price IMO
Yo that's cool that you were there and I got one question how was the ice cream 🍦 that cm punk gave out

The World Cup|TV Series|TV Specials Past Present Future
With all the games faults I still would’ve enjoyed and been able to play it if I could have matches that sometimes last more than 10 minutes.
But it’s impossible
All Elite Wrestling Past Present Future
I got to try this game on PS+. I do like it, but I feel like there's some stiffness to the animations as if they were changed slightly when being imported from Yukes' older wrestling games as I recognize a lot of the animations from 2K14 and the like. On top of that, those games used blended ragdolls to adjust the animations depending on what their surroundings are, and there's less physics-based tomfoolery in general when it comes to the weapons. Also, what licensed music? It's all wrestler themes and in-house music near as I can tell. There's no Korn or even Ice Nine Kills to be found anywhere in the soundtrack. I'm thinking that AEW tried to get involved in the kitchen when Yukes was trying to make their special sauce and it shows. And in my opinion, these pointless distractions like the mini-games and Stadium Stampede should not have even made it past the consideration stage. That shit just feels like an AEW addition.
AEW Play Never
Universe Mode Past Present Future
I remember having low expectations before release due to the frequent delays and lack of status updates. We seemed to get a lot of hype and then radio silence in the months before release.
As someone who loves wrestling and wrestling games (I purchased the abomination that is WWE 2K20), I bought Fight Forever on day 1 because I would be able to play as Punk and Yukes had a hand in the most iconic wrestling games of all-time. What could go wrong?
We found out quickly that a lot could go wrong or simply be left out (I feel your frustration on cage matches being left out). Stadium Stampede is not something I can get into, and the limited mode variety makes the replay value piss poor.
WWE 2K24 is the first wrestling game I've thoroughly enjoyed in over a decade. It has a stacked roster with a much more polished look and feel from the last few half-assed releases. I love the countless possibilities I can create in Universe mode. Hell, WWE & 2K should be paying me for this review.
Love the video!👍🏽👍🏽
It's not as deep as it should be but it's a good starting point. Hopefully, aew can take this base and build it up to make it better.
I say grab the dlc when it's on sale I understand the needing the charge money and even alot for it since it went over budget and it isn't our fault but if we don't support the game some even on sale they won't see a point to try or continue anymore look at tna after midway no more tna games just re-released I want more of this game or more of a part 2 whatever is happening I enjoy the game I don't play it every day but I don't have friends over like when I was younger
I like that the fact that AEW isn't doing a new game every year, but it's not something they should have implemented this time around. I think they should have moved on to a new game until they were able to get the right foundation built AND THEN use DLC and free updates to keep building and evolving it. I don't think Fight Forever is that right foundation. It was a decent first attempt that Jukes and AEW should learn from. They need to find a publisher who's willing to make the investment. THQ Nordic is not a publisher with a lot of capital to throw around, even with Tony Khan helping by investing his own money. I think an AEW game can sell well, but it needs to be a better game than Fight Forever and that takes money. A lot of money.
I agree with basically everything you said other than the dlc point. It sucks and for the price I'm not buying it, but it's 2024.. It IS to be expected. UFC 5 releases packs of new/up and coming fighters for free because no one would ever buy those fighters. The only fighters from the free packs that could potentially sell well is MVP, Bas Rutten and Randleman.. and "sell well" feels like a stretch. AEW are putting well established/ big names like Edge, Samoa Joe, Swerve, Acclaimed, FTR, etc as the dlc and people WILL come out of pocket for those names vs fighters like Geoff Neal or Maycee Barber.
“No one would ever buy those fighters” is you making your own line in the sand. They’re the exact same situation, one is free, one is overly expensive.
@@616Entertainment I'm speaking in general. The name value/star power of the dlc is what makes the situations different. It's like complaining about UFC 5 having Bruce Lee and 3 outfits for $10 and saying well AEW FF released a pack of Dante Martin, Lee Moriarty, Rush and Bandido for free. It's like.. sure, but I don't think they had another option.
@@truthseeker1867 No, but I personally think all of it is too much.
The DLC pricing on an individual basis makes no sense. It's a lot more econimical to get the season passes. Like, a lot more. So that's an option if you want to get the characters and don't want to pay full price. The game and DLC have also gone on sale pretty often. I am still mystified that Stadium Stampede mode was something they put so much effort into, but I guess it is what it is. Not sure what is going to happen going forward, but this last season has ended, and I think that's a line being drawn for this one. If they're going to do another major update, or go to a new game, I have no idea. The fact they say Fight Forever is the foundation doesn't mean it's the game that keeps getting patched.

Another big problem is wrestlers like Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill, and CM Punk leaving for WWE before the game was released, essentially making the roster outdated upon launch.
They don't need to even add arenas, just add the logos to create an arena so I can make a version of my own.
@@truthseeker1867 I mean you can they would just look very similar. I actually have some arenas despite the limited options that I really like. If you have the Adam Copeland dlc that gives you wooden guard rails that can be used in create an arena and I made a make shift Jericho Cruise arena with wooden barricades and the beach theme apron that came with the beach arenas.
How much did they eventually spend on this? Has a reliable number ever been released/leaked?
@@truthseeker1867 The post he showed in this video stated it may have been 2x over budget. So I'm wondering if there is an accurate number somewhere.

It plays a lot more like Day of Reckoning than a true No Mercy successor, but that's fine. Its biggest problem is that it has some buggy A.I. and gameplay balancing issues that needed some patches that never came. It also never got the additional modes it needed to feel more complete. It's just a lost opportunity.
It’s only been a year I feel like I’ve been regretting buying it a launch for a least a few months now🤦🏾♂️
yep I was able to get this for free on PS Plus and I didn't enjoy it
Also you would think in a company known for their trios matches that they would be in the game but they’re not even one year later
I don’t think people want a “No Mercy” successor as much as they want the idea of a successor of it, No Mercy is a legendary game, but I’m not sure it’s style works in todays market. I dunno maybe I’m wrong, it feels like a better idea in nostalgia than it could actually ever be executed
Wait why wouldn’t one expect the first AEW game to be as deep as one of the WWE games? Weren’t they supposed to basically make this a No Mercy sequel? How could they not have the same gameplay and match types and just moderately improve them.
"Where the fuck is the Collision Arena?"
I honestly look at it this way. AEW Fight Forever wasn't bad. It was just different. And it is a victim of first game syndrome.
