    This Vortex does what a $170 can be expected to do well. It isnt going to 'Wow' you for anything, but it will do what you require of it with relative ease. This is the 2nd of 3 scope voted on by You to be reviewed! A Big thank you to Adorama for sending it in for review.

    With all the problems of todays scopes such as having M.O.A turret adjustments and a mil reticle. Or good glass but reticles that block out the target ect, ect. Yes its a little fuzzy at full mag, but I am sure that one will be able to tell the difference of a Deers armpit from its arse at 200 + yds. Not sure if one will hit 8" vital zone beyond 200 yds with a permanent 100 yd parralax as BDC suggest it can. The fact that the magnification adjustment turns smoothly all the way around tells the build quality is good as it also passed my waterproof test, dunked in tub for fifteen minutes and took caps off and adjusted magnification, turrets and eyepiece all while submerged. I have to say made me proud of my little 160 dollar investment. I know there is better especially in the glass department but the Crossfire 2 glass is fully coated and I wasnt looking for the best just a solid performer that I could purchase with the amount of money that I had in my back pocket. I feel I got it..

    Good review. This sounds like one of those you absolutely get what you pay for situations, however in comparison to the leupold it did not provide double the performance for double the price so go figure lol. I like vortex for certain things but they may need to rethink this one. I still love my Viper PST GEN 2 you recommended so that is my new baseline metric.

    • @CDOES
      @CDOES  Před 3 lety +2

      The Gen II PST's are the baseline for the near perfect balance of price and performance.

    This is what I use for deer hunting. I hunt woods and fields with a 450 Bushmaster that has a Magpul hunter stock. I wanted something that would help my older eyes take shots out to 250 yards. Most opportunities in Michigan are within 100 yards but I’ve had to pass on some big ones that I wasn’t comfortable shooting at farther distances with 3-9x40.

    So I just tried to sight in this scope on my Ruger American .308. When adjusting elevation and windage, I noticed that turning the knob left as indicated, that my crosshairs moved to the right, and vise versa. The same happened with the elevation knob, as if it is mislabeled. I’ve never had that issue in a scope before, I wouldn’t think that’s normal but idk??

      L or left on the dial indicates where you want your shot to land relative to the center of the reticle.
      So let say you're sighting your rifle and the first shot lands 1/2 MOA (or 0.5 inch at 100 yards) right of your reticle centre. So you turn the dial to the L or left rotation (2 clicks as each click is 1/4 MOA on this scope), because you want to shift the next shot more left to get it centered on the reticle which the scopes does by moving the reticle rightwards.
      All my scopes have it this way, I've never encounter one that does it the other way.

    You seem very knowledgeable.
    What would be the next step up in the 4-12 ish category (prefferable Vortex line up due to their lifetime guarantee).
    I know next to nothing about scopes, but I just got a CZ 557 Ranger.
    Planning to use it mainly as a SHTF rifle for taking out the zombies at about medium range, but needs to be ok for cliser shots too.
    I'm thinking higher magnification to compensate for my aging eye-sight.
    Would you have any reccomandations for me?

    I bought one of these to put on a 223 bolt action rifle. What a disappointment it was. The parallax on this scope is horrible. When you get behind it and find your full field of view, if you move your head even slightly you can watch the crosshairs move around the target by like 4-6 inches. There is no adjustment for this on the scope so you just have to live with it. I replaced it with an Athlon Talos 4-16 with a side parallax adjustment for the same money. MUCH better scope and has the same lifetime warranty as the Vortex.

    I have this scope on a $250 savage deer rifle. We have the same issue with the turret adjustments. But it fits the role and the glass is good. I belive in having a scope and rifle relatively matched in price. No point in having a $1000 scope on a $300 gun or vise versa. Overall I’m happy with it.
