  • ABANDONED GEORGIAN COUNTRY HOUSE IN SCOTLAND
    Georgian country house built around the nucleus of a simple square keep of c.1500. The tall crowstep-gabled wings to the east and west were added in 1673. The bow-fronted elevation to the south was added in the 18th century and completely encases the original keep on that side. More extensions were add though the 18th and 19th Century's.
    The house fell abandoned in 1991 mainly due to dry rot, and attempts to find a use for it and effect a rescue plan have so far failed, leaving the house derelict and deteriorating.
    Join us as we explore the inside of this beautiful building and what remains inside.

      Charlene Wallis definitely it's a shame it's been stripped bare, it didn't have one key even on it, would of been a grand place in its day with all the wood interior but may of been part of its reason for being so expensive for the repair of the dry rot, since posting the video I've been informed from someone that's spoke to the owners son it will cost £6 Million to restore 😳

    • @nk53nxg
      @nk53nxg Před 4 lety

      Once the roof goes without being repaired quickly enough thats it, the repair bill will sky rocket the longer it is left. The lime mortar in the stone work will start to saturate and wash out making the walls more fragile and unstable although the stone work can still stand for a long time. Old houses did not have pressure treated timber like modern builds so they will rot like mad once enough moisture gets in, they eventually rot anyway. Scotlands windy and wet climate is actually quite brutal on building materials, the wind and rain erodes bare brick, sand and lime stone if not maintaned. That house is rotting from the outside and inside, best way to fix that place is get the roof repaired then gut the inside and renovate from there. Or douse it in petrol and start again. Fix the roof, seal of windows and point the masonry to prevent damp ingress and it could be salvaged, long tedious and expensive process.

    Big, big project, but if those rock walls will stay up, (I'd reinforce the rock- vertical I beam, rebar and mortar, interior, some, same, buttressing outside. The interior is mortar and lathe, anyway, and one could opt for wood over the top, (I like walnut, panelling and floors,) etc). Well, if the rock can be kept intact, completely empty the interior (save some nice stuff, too, but roof down to the basement, clean it out! Get ready for top to bottom, -new. I like these videos because they inspire imagination and appreciation of people and architecture. Do-able, though, maybe. Beautiful, huh?tw

    First time viewer. Really nice house. I would like to see more of the rooms with better light and less of you and the lady. You kept yourself in the viewfinder a bit too often.
