- Bill shows you how to install a Starkey Trunk Release Button Kit on your 2005-2009 V6, GT or Shelby GT500 Mustang.

After years of including a factory trunk release button in the glove box, Ford stopped installing factory trunk release buttons on 2005-2009 Mustangs. Starkey Products developed this kit for any owner desiring that convenience again. This button kit mounts discreetly inside the center console for easy access.
The kit utilizes an OEM Ford access panel with pre-drilled hole, so no cutting or drilling is needed and the new trunk release button looks like it's fresh from the factory. Installation only requires running a few wires, with Starkey's kit including everything necessary for installation. It only takes 20-30 minutes to add this handy convenience!

i cannot believe ford did not put an interior trunk release on this damn car
hustlerz dumbest thing ever 😂😂
I do not think you are alone in your disbelief...lol
it took me a year to find mine on my 2001😂
If you check the instructions that came with the kit there is a secondary color option if you do not have the white/pink wire
subbed, this tutorial video is way better than American muscle "trunk button review" thanks for showing an effort to make a how to video.
Super awesome video. Great visuals and easy to follow
Got a trick looking switch from Auto Zone ( $10 chrome, looks like a lag bolt head ). Installed it on the removable panel in the console, tapped one wire to green wire (positive voltage) of cigarette lighter, next wire to orange/ purple stripe. Easy way to figure which wire to trunk mechanism, take off panel in trunk opener on truck lid. Then find same wire in passenger kick panel. That wire becomes positive when you hit the remote button, you are just bypassing the remote switch and manually adding voltage to the truck.
Tried this. Didn't work.
Suggestion-- turn down the music. Having the guitar riffs throughout the entire instruction video was very distracting. It would have otherwise been a good install demo.
Awesome video, have seen this at AM as well but haven't spliced before.
Easy deal quickly done ! Cheers mate!
thanks abunch on this video. shame on ford for not having these installed already. including a trunk button. tisk tisk
Appreciate the video, very helpful.
07 v6 ford is a positive jump the a thick pink wire with orange line located on the passenger side.
Did it all myself only need a non latching button off ebay for .80 cents.
James G - Techie term is "momentary switch"...😁
I have a 05 mustang gt and it did not work opn my car and i tried 3 other wires also and no good. Let me know what year your car is and if it works for you.
Help i can't find any wire that works. Please let me know if someone has a 05 mustang gt and what color to use thanks John
I NEED HELP! When I bought my 05' V6 it didn't have a keyfob with it. So a few weeks ago I bought a keyfob and programmed it; here's my problem. After training the remote, I tested it; When pressing any button on the remote once, it would "pop"/unlock the trunk. If you pressed the button again, immediately after - (while the trunk is still open) the doors will unlock and act normally. Does anyone know what the hell is going on? I need this feature because of my climate and weather; for now I've disconnected the motor so I can atleast use the remote... But I need help... Anyone?
Will this kit work for a 08’ V6 Automatic?
I need this for my 2006 V6, any spots in South Central LA?
I did 4 different wires on my 05 mustang gt and none of them work . Why .
hi, pls help me, i did all the beginning, but i have a 2007 v6 and couldnt find the white/pink cable, what can i do?
Good video. Very helpful. Thanks!
Followed the instructions. Tried both white and pink wires. Doesn't work!!! 05' mustang.
Did you make sure the other wire is securely to ground?
I just spent 31/2 hours on my 2005 mustang and can not get it to work sucks.
I am having the same problem . Even check the button it works fine. Tried 4 different wires nothing. I guess i am going to have to hook up a light pinch the wire and hit the remote button on fob and see if one lights up then i know which one it is. So stupid.
I noticed you don’t have an AUX port in the center console I thought they were standard?
not standard until the 2007 model year, I have a 07 pony package coupe and was at a car show and a guy there had a 06 GT500 and he did not have one but I did he he :)
You do not mention the gauge of the wire as I would think you would not want to cut the wire by accident. Know the wire gauge you know exactly what gauge on the wire splicer / cutter not to use?? I think this would be helpful information. I have purchased the product and going to install it tomorrow, I will advise if it's ease the video states, having my doubts but hopefully it's as easy as stated ?
I did it without the kit using spare wire, some 3M wiretaps from walmart and a little push button i got from radio shack
R. Browning - I believe he does say if there two wires, it will always be the higher gauge (smaller diameter) wire that you want to tap...
It's the white wire with pink and it's 22 gauge wire the skinny one.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC??
DEEZ KNUTZ - After a girl friend came out of the grocery store and said "pop the trunk", and I spent 10 minutes looking for, and not finding, the trunk release, I went to the local parts store and picked up a momentary button and did a DIY install in my 05 V6 automatic...
Doug Ashby cool 😎 and I’m sure way cheaper option
