I feel GTA V overdid the white water too much.

V's water looks much better and it has wave simulation, but that's about it, because it almost completely lacks physics and the splash effects look like garbage in comparison to IV. Not to mention the overuse of white effects to compensate the lack of deformation. That pretty much sums up the philosophy of both of the games as a whole: IV is much more ambitious and has lots and lots of details trying to simulate a realistic experience. While it overexaggerates in some areas, it's still overal more realistic. While V on the other hand tries to be a bigger GTA: San Andreas with realistic graphics and adds some new details, but it drops many of IV's

It's so annoying that in GTA5 the AK-style rifle shoots way slower than it sounds.
And the waves are way too big to have a fun and fast boat ride.
Visually water in GTA5 looks better.

Of the three games in GTA 4, the worst water physics. In the fifth GTA, the waves are directly visible, these clothes get wet gradually when immersed in water, splashing waves hit the rocks, you will not survive if you jump from a helicopter into the water. Not to mention the fact that in real life there is no funnel like in GTA 4. Yes, and it’s corny to ride a jet ski in GTA 5 much more pleasant, in GTA 4 it’s jelly in comparison.
Hopes are down for GTA 6 be the last damn game I’d buy anyways

@@edu6509 Por eso. el agua de GTA 4 es mas divertida, mas no realista, si has visto en la vida real los helicopteros no forman ese hueco sobre el agua, forrman pequeños circulos de espuma como en GTA V, lo de cuando un auto cae al agua en GTA IV es exagerado la reaccion, en GTA V es un poco mas cercano a como pasaria realmente pero no tan real igual, lo de que parecen paredes es exactamente a como reacciona el agua en la vida real cuando es impactada a alta velocidad, en la vida real si caes muy alto y de forma inapropiada el agua se puede sentir como cemento, (experiencia propia)
4's water simulation was an EXTREME performance hog. 5 chose realistic waves and foam. Realistic waves and foam + dynamic water deformation would be impossible on 7th gen consoles.
But RDR2 has it. 6 will have it.
4 has better physics but in 5 you can dive underwater. Hopefully 6 will combine the two

In IV the water looks like jelly, but it had better physics. In V the water looks like paper and don't behave like water at all. One thing you didn't show is that in IV the water clean dirty cars, it can be mud or blood. In V it simply doesn't.
In GTA 4 the water is more bone mesh style so thats why it looks like jelly, the particles are also much bigger and better. In GTA 5 the water is less wavy at first, but the deeper - the wavier. Also it has less particles. In fact GTA 5 on PC has a water phisics setting that cns be changed, so the comparisons would be longer. GTA 5 simply uses a more optimized gameplay. Bone meshed water is baisscally a mesh that has these let's say for example invisible parts and each part that you pull will stretch the mesh on same direction that you pull. This way animations and collisions are created to simulate water, however there can be other ways.

The water in GTA 4 is like jelly, in general, like the whole physics of the game. It tries to simulate realistic behavior, but it is not realistic. In GTA 5, water has become more technologically advanced, but the simulation of realistic behavior has been simplified for it. I can't say that this is good, but in the game the water in GTA 5 feels much better
Yeah, but the water physics were still damn good for a game this old that only ran on Xbox 360 and PS3.
They basically trade semi convicing simulation for better looking water and an entire underwater ecosystem. They are both good but I'd say V is way more impressive
except the water mesh tessellation from force, maybe they left it out for optimization idk, but it's present in 4 missing in 5

steel barrels dont float if full of water. seems like 4 has a different viscosity to the water..dampening out waves & looking kind of like oil, more than water.
water in liberty city is full of trash and poisonous so it makes for it, also you can't swim over 8 minutes in gta 4
I don't know. Water in IV may not look good, but it surely behaves better than in V.
For those who understand, GTA 5 has simplified and optimized water that behaves realisticly, but in GTA 4 the water like every comment says is like jelly, probably because it's just an animated mesh with bones that move after collisions.

GTAIV..with a rear sight on the rear and front of the slide on the pistol.
And they magically reload assualt rifles by pulling the bolt back lol
I prefer GTA 4 the driving in that game is much more realistic and if you take a corner to aggressive or clip the curb just right the entire vehicle will flip during hard cornering. oversteer not really a problem in GTA 4 because Nico don't really care about car modifications so the vehicle is not gonna have a lot of horse power unless it's something specific right out of the box.
As much as I like GTA IV everything, I gotta admit that its a very demanding game
The actual movement and physics of the water is better in IV, but the looks and details are better in V, if they can combine these in VI that’ll be something

shooting the water..AK has the effective pwr of a .22LR.. that is noted whilst shooting at NPC's or players.
It should be a feared/respected weapon, as has been since 1947 irl.

jack it up to Marksman Rifle pwr per shot & Marksman back to it's 1-2 rnds for a kill pwr..it was nerfed awhile back.
its a tie on the car wash..except the last step is supposed to be pwrful fans to dry your car off..not more water, lol.

i think this explains the behaviour of water in liberty city, also we cant swim more than 8 minutes in gta 4 else player will die

I prefer GTA 4's water over 5's because you can ACTUALLY GO FULL SPEED. you can only go full speed in 5 in small areas like canals. In the ocean though, the waves are AWFUL!!!

Why is GTA5 built so badly
Sacrifices so it can run better and have more content and other mechanics on PS3/Xbox 360 so the same platform GTA IV originally came out on. It is improved in some areas while regressed others. PC version is just a mild touch up with rain drop effects, first person view and more graphical details. Red Dead Redemption 2 is what GTA 5 could be on PS4/XBONE era only hardware if they didnt try to push it on PS3 and X360.
Sacrifices had to be made. GTA V has a massive scale compared to IV, not just in map size but in terms of features, variety of models and textures, weather effects, events, number of vehicles and much more.
The fact that the water graphics were downgraded doesn't mean much when the texture work looks much more natural and behaves more realistically when looking at it from a distance and the fact that you can even go underwater and there's a whole underwater ecosystem down there. If you ask me, GTA V is years ahead of GTA IV when talking about all that. Both games are great on their own right tho
@@holad-jlsegovia-423 I thought I was the only one seeing this. As for me, in GTA 5, the developers wanted to combine the best of San Andreas and GTA 4, while doing it on the old generation consoles. From San Andreas to the game scale, opportunities, various missions, and the like. From GTA 4 there are engines in the game, more realistic and smooth animations of the character himself, a lot of detailed details of which, in general, even more than in GTA 4. But people seem to flatly refuse to see it. And I have not yet talked about online, in fact the game is a game.
@@user-xu2te2ox7h Exactly, GTA 4 excels when it comes to attention to detail but there isn't much variety to it when even compared to San Andreas for example and there a lot of features that are missing. While GTA V, just tries to do a whole lot more in a much grander scale while sacrificing those small details.
Both games had to work with the PS3 and Xbox 360 limitations and I honestly find it impressive that they both run perfectly fine in those consoles.
People should just stop comparing them so much since they really tried different things, not only with their gameplay but also with their writing and imo, they are both excellent at what they are trying to be.

When GTA San Andreas came out, some fans even at that time criticized the game for its weak technical side, although in return they received a wide variety of worlds, many features and mechanics. In GTA 4, the developers heard the fans and made a technical breakthrough, a living world, although not so diverse. But fans did not like the seriousness of the game, the poorer gameplay after San Andreas. In GTA 5, the developers decided to please everyone, add a little bit from past GTAs, on old consoles. Although there were critics. In general, in each part, the developers wanted to surprise and make a leap in the industry, so each is good in its own way and unique in its atmosphere, reflecting an entire era.
GTA v have the best texture quality in all aspects, and GTA iv have the more realistically accurate physics(not exactly the best)

Effects looks much better in GTA 4
The rotor effects on the water in IV were definitely better than V. But in every other respect I think V looks better. The water actually looks like water, not a sheet of plastic wrap blowing in the wind.
