- Welcome to V.B.S. Episode 37 -- Virtual Boat Shopping for our dream Great Loop boat. Today we look at a 1999 Grand Alaskan 60 Motor Yacht to see if we want to add it to our Yes! No! or Maybe? list of potential boats to purchase to do the Great American Loop.
We hope to set sail (or rather start our engines) on our Great Loop Adventure in spring 2022. But we still need to find a boat. YIKES!
For more real-time information on our boat shopping, follow us on Instagram @TheBoomershines. We will share more details of everything we are doing to prep for the Loop there.

A friend forwarded me your posting, i purchased Suzy Belle in March 2022......Awesome boat!!!
3208 Cats, not Cummins, Northern lights Gensets 8&16Kw
Fine boat! Abundant living space, great galley, primary stateroom with separate access wonderful for privacy. Nine knots will be fine for much of the loop, but there will be stretches when 14-15 knots would be welcome. Cummins are good diesels, Northern Lights gen set is tops. This boat would be safe and roomy, a solid choice.
Agreed! :)
That was my boat! She’s fabulous!
No way! Loved her :)
This is a great boat guys! A YES! The only small thing is the max speed, but you do not really need more than 10kn on the GL. She's perfect! She's big but will suite you fine, if you qualify to get her insured!!
She is right at our upper limit for size. Anything bigger we would need a captain onboard for a bit to get insurance.
A friend of mine had a Grand Alaskan 65 for years. He cruised it all over Puget Sound , BC, and Alaska. He also took it down the West Coast to Fl. and cruised the Caribbean ,East Coast and back to his home port of Seattle. He raved about that boat.
That's great to know! Thanks for sharing :)
This is our favorite of the ones you’ve looked at recently. So much to love! Reminds us of the Tollycraft 60 we also love so much. Best of luck in your search!
Thank you! Best of luck to you too 🤞🤞🤞
OMG! That is perfect for the loop then the ocean after that 😍
It’s a good one for sure!
Beautiful boat! And A LOT of boat.
It sure is! Which is good and bad. LOL
I’m voting on the Sea Ray. Thanks. D.
That was a cool boat for sure! Much smaller and still three staterooms.
Have you seen the Ocean Alexander in Vero Beach? Looks promising!
Hmmmmmm. 😆⚓️Mark
Nice boat. Checks many of the boxes. But with the Master physically separated from the kids room, I can see Mama Bear getting nervous about that. Having to go up one level, across, and then back down in an emergency is a no-go in my book, especially with younger children.
That is definitely a concern.
Loved it! Let’s pull the trigger and get it under a contingent contract in case the other one falls through. Aaaaand speaking of the “other one”…when might we get to hear about said mystery boat? 😎
Soon. We promise!
@@TheBoomershines Hallelujah! 😉
Great choice - go for it….
It would be a good one for sure!
Ready for the reveal at this point.
We will reveal as soon as it is a done deal. Don't want to jinx anything.
While it would give you lots of room, it would be a _very_ tight fit at many of the marinas on the Loop. I did find a listing for a 1998 60 footer, they give the bridge clearance as 22 feet maximum. I'd read that as with the arch standing tall.
We agree that 60 feet will up the difficulty level.
Did you visit the Endeavor 50 power cat at the AGLCA meeting? You'd love that boat - plenty of room for everyone, fabulous kitchen and salon space. Wonderful upper deck second living room.
A large power cat is now on my list to look out for.
We did go on it and LOVED it! It would be an incredible loop boat for a family. Just need to find one for sale.
Hi guys, a couple observations... 1)Did you notice the phone in the galley? how cool would it be to call down from the helm and request lunch! 2)Really big boat for the loop, marina's would ding you big time for dockage, 3)Love the braided ponytail! Are you planning on doing Canadian part of the loop? It's amazing!! Thanks
Great observation! We love a ship's phone! Our kiddos especially love it because they have never really used an old school phone LOL. We are OK with a big boat and know we will have to pay. more. Marinas charge by the foot and we have taken that into consideration with our budgeting and projections. We ABSOLUTELY plan to do Canada. That is what we are most excited about. And thanks for the compliment.
Very snazzy and would work well but I still prefer the old school Hatteras !
You simply can't beat the living space on a Hatteras!
Great boat. I’d still suggest a Selene.
Selene's are GORGEOUS boats. But we have yet to find one for sale under 60 feet with three staterooms. Bummer!
@@TheBoomershines a Selene 53 would be three staterooms but the third is like an office and bunks combo. Not exactly what your kiddos need.
Has possibilities🤔🙂
For sure!
Nice boat, but is there a way to easily configure it to fit under the 19.5 foot bridge that you have to go under on the Loop? That sure looks taller than 19.5 with a lot of stuff that doesn't look like it would be that easy to take down. Of course, with a saw and a wrench, there is nothing you can't take down. But, we've cruised on a 42 foot boat as a couple. With kids, 60 feet would be nice. And, it would be a really great Bahamas boat, which is where we like to go the most.
We would definitely need to confirm air height on this one! I wish every boat would include that on their listing. After we finish the loop, we are heading to the Bahamas -- which we are most excited about.
She doesn’t need to boogie… she’s a heavy gal !
Yes, True. We realized for us that logic doesn’t hold up. It’s kind of like saying “you don’t need to run inside from the storm…you’ve got a rain coat.” Yes. You survive the storm, but by the end you are cold and miserable. ⚓️Mark
Listing appears to have disappeared. Those are Caterpillar 3208TA's, not Cummins.
Maybe it sold???
We are looking for a live on yacht that would be parked 90% of the time. Florida. Similar price range. Any suggestions?
We haven't found anything with the livability of an old hatteras. There is a great 62 foot one for sale right now that has been nicely renovated and would be a fantastic livaboard.
You can get a good deal on a listing that says "Great Liveaboard" which is code for...she isn't as sea worthy as she use to be. ⚓️Mark
Good evening Boomershine's.... My human left the phone unsecured, So me, FuzzyNugget as the Sea Cat's agent wanted to make a cat's observation :: there appears to be plenty of room for said Sea Cat's for their morning and afternoon zoomies.. However, if we don't get the show on the water said Sea Cat's will be needing cat wheel chairs to move about... Rut roe here comes my human........
Hello friends!! I see FuzzyNugget is up to no good again.... She's a beautiful boat, but I have to agree with previous comment about momma bear having to go through an obstacle course in case of an emergency.....
Safe travels patiently waiting for the surprise announcement soon... Then the true work begins....
Be well...
Scott and FuzzyNugget
Hi Scott and Fuzzy Nugget! Thank you for always making us laugh and for always looking out for our ship kitties. Hopefully we will be on the water soon!
Hatteras 52ft my 1993 $264,500 Naples Fl. Newer 3 cabins 3 heads dishwasher , washer and dryer, stabilized
Hi Tsturn! I am a bit confused by your comments. If you are saying you have a Hatteras 53 that you are selling, you might want to reach out to Cruising Genesis on Instagram. They are looking for a Hatteras 53. Hope that helps :). And thanks for watching!
@@TheBoomershines No, just trying to help, thought you would like to look at this one, up dated interior, modern interior!!!!
my means, motor yacht , it a 52 ft.
@@tsturn4682 gotcha 🤣. Thank you!!!! I did know if you meant my or MY 🤣
You do know it’s “America’s Great Loop”?
Of course :) LOL. It seems as if people use "America's Great Loop" and the "Great Loop" interchangeably. Is that what you were wondering?
سلام عليكم تحياتي لك 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Peace to you also!
Very slow. So, if you're heading into a 3 or 4 knot current, your top speed would probably be 7 knots. Everybody would be passing you.😄 There are lots of hours on that port engine and the generators. A diesel rebuild could run as high as 35k to 40k.
I'd say "NO"
Great points!!!!
I love this for your trip. But seriously if these brokers can’t do better pictures and or videos they need a new profession how do they expect anyone to be able to see anything when they take pictures in portrait mode
LOL The bad boat listings and photos drive me nuts! Its not that hard to take good pics and arrange them in a logical order.
This yacht cruises at 11 knots. Most of the loop you will not be going any faster
True. But it should would be nice to have the ability to go faster if we need it.
Too big!!!!!!
It does seem big!
But this boat if you can afford it, basically a poor man's G.B.
