7.6 Evaluation of measurement uncertainty

In ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the evaluation of measurement uncertainty can be approached through two main methods: bottom-up and top-down.
Bottom-Up Approach involves identifying and quantifying individual sources of uncertainty and then combining these uncertainties to determine the overall measurement uncertainty.
Top-Down Approach involves determining the measurement uncertainty directly from the overall comparison of the measurement result with an appropriate reference value or a certified reference material (CRM).
