It just encapsulates and captivates me in a way I never thought possible and I’m obsessed with how low the pitch goes from the first chorus to the second verse. It’s probably my favorite part of the song!

@@dinoraha1041 yes omg I love your analysis so much! It has to be that because it makes sense. I just realized something!! This is called Maroon because that’s how she felt after this breakup - like she’d been marooned. What a clever word artist! Tay’s creative writing paints pictures and makes you really think. She also makes you empathize with her because of her raw emotion and unabashed honesty. Truly, she is one of the greatest artists to emerge on the music scene in a really long time. Her vocal range, while not superb, is more than made up for by her ability to captivate. All songwriters should take a leaf from her book.
Yes that's so yk when other artist cover her songs ( the one having great vocal range and all like Mariah, ariana ,,) it doesn't give that feel I think it comes to the connection she has with the writing , memories , small incision that she knowingly and unknowingly does
I agree. And speaking of connection, Taylor really goes above and beyond to connect with her fanbase on an intimidate level. She understands we crave that.
I love this song. It’s like an older version of Red, and instead of a young women experiencing all these different emotions/colours, it’s a older women looking back with regret and reminiscing her love.
I am going to tell you why "Maroon" is one of the most genius song she's ever written. She was able to say "red" six times without actually saying "red" for atleast once. 1) this is gorgeous. 'That's a real f*cking legacy' 2) I don't see anyone talking about how potentially dark this could be lyrically- the person interacting with Taylor seems to be careless, spilling wine on her and making her flush, leaving marks on her skin- it walks that fine line between intimacy and damage
The collar bone mark is just a hickey, you guys. You know how red they are at the beginning and darkens into, you know, maroon, then purple and then it fades. 🤷♂
Maroon is almost a purplish red color. It’s unique in a lot of ways. The imagery is just compelling us to really dig deep into what Taylor must have been going through at the time she was with this person she can’t seem to forget. It’s about reminiscing the times where everything felt safe and peaceful.

Maroon carnations represent deep love and affection. Maroon roses represent commitment and preservation of that deep love. They had deep love for each other, but in the end, they couldn’t preserve it. That’s what I think the carnations and roses line meant.
I like that. I took it two other possible ways: Carnations are not a symbol of romantic love, and are usually given in platonic situations & roses, especially red ones, are a symbol of true love and usually given when in love. Another interpretation, was about carnations, being named after carnal love representing lust, and then the red rose symbol of true love. Actually, all 3 interpretations are primarily the same that the relationship was thought to be true love, but turned out to be an imitation or allusion of love.
the way she expresses her feelings using colors and sounds is so meaningful... In 'Red', she described the youthful and passionate kind of love that she had experienced with an upbeat production. Now in 'Maroon', she is describing that love but with more maturity using mellow production, just like the maroon as a toned down shade of red.
I feel that the other meaning of maroon is important in the context of this song: If you say that you are marooned, you mean that you feel alone and helpless and you cannot escape from the place or situation you are in.
I believe she is referring to turning red as in angry she also mention that it left a mark on her collarbone and people saw it so not sure if that wine glass was throw at her and left a mark
This song is my favorite from the album. My interpretation is that scarlet could be like the scarlet letter, possibly forbidden or shamed, yet there was a vibrancy until it turned dark: maroon. Maroon can mean to desert someone. I love how many times she uses the variety of red shades, the choice of flowers, and the rust that grew between telephones to show the tarnishing of the relationship. Perfect.
can't get enough of this album honestly . "It was maroon" literally gave me goosebumps. American swifties y'all are lucky cause you got the merch that we didn't
i literally love the new album. she never fails to amaze me plus somehow managed to write a bunch of other songs in the 3am edition. i’m literally in love
um... i just noticed that - 'marooned' means 'abandoned on an island' -- in Ready for It she sung 'we'll move to an island and he can be my jailor", so that's a very bitter end - maroon is the colour of dry blood too - the verses about 'The burgundy on my t-shirt when you splashed your wine into me' sound like a gloomy, disillusioned version of the 'Salute to me, I'm your American Queen' verses in King of my Heart
There seems to be an underlying sadness in the songs I've listen too from this album, I wish her well and hope that she will continue to share her great talent with all of us. Taylor is the Greatest Of All Time. Best wishes to Taylor and thank you!
I noticed that as well. It shows she a human that goes through real thing like the rest of us. Its relatable. She truly puts her feelings in her music. It what I love about her and why I love her music.
the way she hit "the rubies that I gave up" so perfectly. Also, the chorus is so addictive. This is hands down one of her greatest songs of all time along with Would've, Could've, should've ❤️💯
Taylor Swift - Cute girl Fearless - Popular girl Speak now - Girl in dreams Red- Heartbroken woman 1989- Independent woman Reputation - Queen of Revenge Lover- A woman in love Folklore- Legendary woman Evermore - Famous Poet Midnights - The night watchwoman
This song captures my heartbreak over losing my second husband. The lips I used to call home hits TKO. His behavior blew up our marriage; he refused marriage counseling. Still grieving.
This is a brilliant song. I mean, she didn't stop with saying only red shades, BUT she also used only visuals where red it's the main colour. Blush, rust, afternoon, wine, carnations, roses., a hicky... SHE'S REALLY A MASTERMIND
This song gives me the vibes of "Wildest Dreams", "Red", and "This Love" combined. The longing, the hint of an on and off relationship, the euphoria that comes with it, and the intensity of the relationship. It isn't like "Dress" from Reputation, it closely resembles her songs in the albums Red and 1989.
I think this is my favourite song in the album!! It’s so haunting and beautiful, a true masterpiece. She always has such as a talent for telling us her emotions and thoughts through the use of colour, it’s so powerful. Thank you for this Taylor.
my interpretation from the first chorus “the rust that grew between telephones” and then the same line on the second chorus is them being two different meanings. the first time she mentions it i feel the rust is there from the phone not being used from them being together all the time. and then with the second time it being used is the rust is on the phone from them never reaching out to each other. which make it ever so more sad.
can we talk about how this song started to be like a storytelling of a reminiscible kind of love but in the end, it sounded scary and hunting as if it turned out it was that kind of love which was nostalgic but burned you.
This song is the dark horse of the album not being talked about as much by everyone but you know Taylor expressing feelings through colours will always be a banger
The outro where she sang in lower register followed by a high "so scarlet it was maroon" is so beautiful. It's how I imagine a fever dream would sound like.
Maroon is a color of course but it’s also a verb meaning to be isolated and lonely (as in being marooned on an island). I love how this song captures both meanings .

this song just hits different after the news😭
She sings this one so soulfully. Absolutely incredible job, Taylor!
can't get enough of this album honestly . "It was maroon" literally gave me goosebumps. American swifties y'all are lucky cause you got the merch that we didn't
Ur country?
Wait which merch?
i literally love the new album. she never fails to amaze me plus somehow managed to write a bunch of other songs in the 3am edition. i’m literally in love
The reason why Midnights won Album of the Year at the Grammys
um... i just noticed that
- 'marooned' means 'abandoned on an island' -- in Ready for It she sung 'we'll move to an island and he can be my jailor", so that's a very bitter end
- maroon is the colour of dry blood too
- the verses about 'The burgundy on my t-shirt when you splashed your wine into me' sound like a gloomy, disillusioned version of the 'Salute to me, I'm your American Queen' verses in King of my Heart
Red: loving him was red.
Midnights:it was maroon.
Only Taylor can describe her emotions perfectly by using colors.. she is insanely talented...❤️🔥
lover: it was gold
Or lover gold
Invisible string 💛
I think she and Andrew Mcmahon describe emotions with colors very well.
The story between merely a few lines, from ''Laughing with my feet in your lap'' to ''Sobbing with your head in your hands'' I'M BLOWN AWAY.
i think this is probably the best song she’s ever written tbh
The lyrics are so devastating and beautiful at the same time! 😭😭😭😭😭
The lower register vocals at 2:58 ♥️♥️♥️
Is it just me or that part kinda reminds of Lana like she was actually singing this? 😳
@@stefanpantic2268 no, definitely sounds like Taylor to me.
Literally all of her last 3 albums has sadness thru out
🥺💔💖
*This is the matured version of RED after all the fragility of the fresh breakup vanished*
Maroon is pulling a Champagne Problems, August, ATW, Cruel Summer, Don’t Blame Me as the fan favourite and deserve to have it’s own MV ❤
the way she hit "the rubies that I gave up" so perfectly. Also, the chorus is so addictive. This is hands down one of her greatest songs of all time along with Would've, Could've, should've ❤️💯
Taylor Swift - Cute girl
Fearless - Popular girl
Speak now - Girl in dreams
Red- Heartbroken woman
1989- Independent woman
Reputation - Queen of Revenge
Lover- A woman in love
Folklore- Legendary woman
Evermore - Famous Poet
Midnights - The night watchwoman
😆 dude
and we’re under her spell✨
Cheers!!;-) to saying it well!!
Switch folklore with evermore.
All- Queen of the music industry
This song captures my heartbreak over losing my second husband. The lips I used to call home hits TKO. His behavior blew up our marriage; he refused marriage counseling. Still grieving.
I'm so sorry you experienced that :/ you deserve much better, sending love 🫶🏻
I’m sorry ❤
Video Editor: Where do you want me to place your lyric text onscreen ?
Taylor Swift : Yes
This is a brilliant song. I mean, she didn't stop with saying only red shades, BUT she also used only visuals where red it's the main colour. Blush, rust, afternoon, wine, carnations, roses., a hicky... SHE'S REALLY A MASTERMIND
there's no 'afternoon' on this song
So Scarlett, rubies, burgundy, lips, rose’, I love all the types of red she uses.
and blood, cuz the color of blood is red. shes masterpiece
😻all her new songs are on Trending. Only Taylor Swift could pull this off. She breaks the internet with every new album 🙀
Well duh she’s her
@@eternallyhappy247 leave the bots alone. People gotta make a living.
@@beeskneekey5139 no not true and also their annoying
@@eternallyhappy247 this one was obviously hired by her.
@@eternallyhappy247 or, at least her team.
People can hate on Taylor Swift all they want but she is so talented. Her songs are like stories.
This song hits different now
This is one of the best songs on this album. The flow in the chorus....!! And then the low voice at the end!! WOW!! WOW!
This song gives me the vibes of "Wildest Dreams", "Red", and "This Love" combined. The longing, the hint of an on and off relationship, the euphoria that comes with it, and the intensity of the relationship. It isn't like "Dress" from Reputation, it closely resembles her songs in the albums Red and 1989.
same thought. more of wildest dreams than dress
Yeah, i definitely think this is more 1989-ish and red-ish than dress.
this song also reminded me so much on 1989!
@@salmalichattopadhyay4034 qhat song ib Red soubd like this one?
Totally agree!
Why do I feel like this song is about Joe? Is it possible? I swear I have the strongest feeling. The rust that grew between telephones? Legacy?
It’s not, it’s so obviously about Jake. All shades of RED
I think it's 100% about Joe. Maroon is more mature than Red. Red was about Jake. Maroon is about Joe.
Maroon is Taylor saying "i thought this love was golden but it was just a different shade of red" and that's depressingly beautiful
Taylor Swift's voice is amazing, I love how she can convey so much emotion in her songs!
I think this is my favourite song in the album!! It’s so haunting and beautiful, a true masterpiece. She always has such as a talent for telling us her emotions and thoughts through the use of colour, it’s so powerful. Thank you for this Taylor.
Been on repeat for 2 days nonstop
This song is now my entire personality and I don’t apologize for it
slay
This song really grew on me... :)
It did for me too
taylor is a poet and everytime i hear a song by her i say that, she's a poet being tortured in the tortured poets department
my interpretation from the first chorus “the rust that grew between telephones” and then the same line on the second chorus is them being two different meanings. the first time she mentions it i feel the rust is there from the phone not being used from them being together all the time. and then with the second time it being used is the rust is on the phone from them never reaching out to each other. which make it ever so more sad.
This!!
can we talk about how this song started to be like a storytelling of a reminiscible kind of love but in the end, it sounded scary and hunting as if it turned out it was that kind of love which was nostalgic but burned you.
Yeah...
now i know why she won AOTY with this album
The fact that she uses 5 different ways to say “red” in just the chorus😭💀💜
From burning red, to it's golden like daylight, and lastly it was maroon.
“The rust that grew between telephones” pure poetry
I don't know why, I repeated it 30 times since when the album released. I'm so obsessed on this song! 😭💚 I can't help myself. I love every detail.
Me too!
Me too! Maybe 50 is coming for realll
One of my favourite from this album!!
I adore this song!
@@Willywonka1989 my day is incomplete without listening to this song (atleast 5-10 or more times a day).. and the whole album. 🖤💜❤️
This is about Joe then
duh
Somehow I feel that Maroon is blondie’s favorite in midnights but she tries to forget its existence.
She acknowledged it though before playing as the surprise song last night. She said it's one of her favorites on Midnights.
Im so in love with this song. i feel like people dont talk about maroon enough. Maroon deserve more recognition😭
Facts we need that music video
You're not alone, after listening to all of her songs in the album, this one was what stuck in my head. ♥️
nah maroon is so popular tho 😄
The best song everrrrr
My best friend thinks it gives folklore vibes but I think she's extremely wrong and this song gives evermore and red vibes what do y'all think 😍🫶
This song is the dark horse of the album not being talked about as much by everyone but you know Taylor expressing feelings through colours will always be a banger
Taylor always steps out of the comfort zone bringing something new to the music world. ❤️
This would be on reputation for sure
I feel like I'm in a trance, such a hypnotising vibe this song has
The outro where she sang in lower register followed by a high "so scarlet it was maroon" is so beautiful. It's how I imagine a fever dream would sound like.
I cant believe she didn't add this song to the era tour
The break up issue hasn't been confirmed yet, so as long as Taylor isn't saying anything. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THEY'VE BROKEN UP.
me too!!!
Taylor never says officialy nothing and will not adress it but the news was leaked from her PR.
