I am using the wifi extender as well, the range is also influence by the area that you playing the drone, if too much interference, the range are limited, i have touched 2km while plying really really far from town

Hi.great video, showing it in function. I got the bebop 1. And a iphone 6. And the same repeater as you. (Mihome was in chineese, but found the english button. ) Today i was trying out range in open field. Video feed lagged after 225m/680feet without extender. With extender, no lag whatsoever still at 500m/1500feet. But turned back, due to battery. Bit even with front facing me, no video lag.

Yeas. Really like the setup,, the best is i still got the mobility, and not a clunky skycontroller. Im waiting on a ps3 clone controller from china, and then i will try to make the setup with cydia. Controller for all. App, , if it will not work, then im only down 6 dollars. 😜

Hi thanks for your videos. By the way, the distance depends on how many wifi signals are interfering in your flying area. Close to home (in the suburbs) i can fly only 600 m with the skycontroller 2 but in the countryside I have reached 2km

I was actually trying to decide wether or not to make this video for that reason; there are so many variables in how far this Xiaomi wifi extender can reach. Weather, terrain, buildings and wifi signals just to name a few. Flew 960m in a open grape vineyard by homes and a couple of cell towers with Xiaomi wifi stick repeater before losing connection. The xiaomi wifi router with rabbit ears flew the same range but I stopped before disconnection. The xiaomi wifi router will get me out farther but has issues with disconnections and found dead spots where it will stop flying and sometimes a disconnection will happen but I still have fpv. This is at close proximity to homes and wifi interference. Even in a open area with no wifi whatsoever I still had a disconnection with xiaomi wifi router at close range. No problems with Xiaomi wifi stick repeater and easier to setup.

Hi thanks! Yeah I definitely think it helps the signal. oh weird, I've never seen a blue light on mine, maybe yours is a newer model, my Bebop 2 was bought a couple years ago. Hope it works great for you as well!
think you must have been experiencing some WiFi interference! with the same Xiaomi booster I've got my bebop2 to 600mtrs distant.... then turned back! fpv was still perfect 😎😎
Yeah I'm not sure, this is the first time I've really tested the distance so I've never really payed attention to the max distance before this. I'll keep testing it, also I just received another style of wifi extender so I'll be testing that and uploading the video soon. Oh nice! Will you make a video showing it?
If there is are 2 fields where the Bebop 2 kick ass the Spark it's the battery and Wifi, you can't do the same trick with the Spark due to the app restrictions, so it's a 100m vs +600m without RC
That looks awesome, but for now I have a question I have Bebop2 with the skycontroller, after purchasing a booster that plugs into the USB port on the skycontroller I'm not getting that much of a range increase. Can I add that booster to my skycontroller? And do you know if Parrot is actively pursuing a fix for the lost of signal problem?
Hi Tank 62, sorry I've never tried the booster you are refering to, although I have seen them for sale online. Sorry to hear it isn't working well. Maybe ask them if everything is connected correctly? As far as I know, this wifi extender will not pair with the skycontroller. It's basically just a mini version of the skycontroller as far as amplifying the Bebops wifi signal. I'm not sure, I know they have made several updates to their firmware and it seems to have gotten a little better over the last few months, as far as connection. I guess we'll see! Jordan Lythgoe Hi thanks! Well I'm not sure because i've only used it with the bebop 2, but I guess in theory, any drone that uses a Wi-Fi signal could possibly be amplified by this Wi-Fi extender. But for the higher end drones that have a large range, this wouldn't really be necessary, so this works great for smaller or less expensive drones. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
I worked out that it will only connect if you can password protect the drones wifi. I decided to send the drone i had back and get a bebop parrot. Amazing drones! I also have the extender but for some reason, it disconnects after about 15-20 meters and then asks for the password again
Jordan Lythgoe Hi, yeah that's strange. Are you sure you're connected to the extenders Wi-Fi and not just the drone? As seen in this video you should be able to go at least 100-300 meters, I always average that at least, but it does depend on your area and Wi-Fi interference. Other than that, maybe it's a faulty extender so maybe you could exchange it? I hope that helps, thanks for commenting!
Thanks for the reply. Yes it was connected to the extender and i was on a beach so shouldn't have been a lot of interference. I will have to try it again tomorrow and maybe reset the extender. Thanks for the help!
No, It's not the best distance you can expect. The distance can greatly be improved with just one simple little detail. The BACK propellers are the ones with the antennas, therefore try to fly with the 2 back props facing you and try facing the antenna in between the 2 propellers and the distance will GREATLY be amplified. Also, Don't try to fly it near cell towers... In my park there's a huge cell tower in front of my face and the signal strength gets weekend by alot.
Will the wifi extender help with the live feed? Currently I use my mobile only to fly it and once It gets to around 100 feet away. My feed becomes really choppy. In fact I'd say I don't trust flying it out of eye sight. Thanks in advance.
It was assuming people watching the video already know what their Bebop 2 drone range is haha. So if you don't have one, without this extender I would average 50 to 100 meters. So with it, over 400 Meters.
Very good clip. How do we prevent lost connection and fly away and drop somewhere ? Many bebop owners lost their drones because losing connection. in my experience first 6 month the drone was working well afterward lost connection and flew away. I think it was hardware or software problem or malfunctioned.
Hi Anthony Suping, thanks a lot! Yeah that's a good question and one I'm still trying to figure out too. For now, I've only found ways to try and strengthen the signal between my smartphone and the Bebop 2. I think like you, sometimes I worry it will lose connection when I'm over 100 M away. How far where you when you lost connection? Yeah I agree, I think some kind of connection issue or software glitch will throw it off sometimes. I have only had small problems and I was able to either "stop Follow" or kill the motors and the drone dropped to the ground before a flyaway. But yeah, if it loses connection and flies off, I don't know what else you can do to prevent that yet. What do you think we could do to help prevent lost connection? Also, did you make sure your return to home was turned on? I've noticed when I updated my App once it turned the "RTH" off, so I had to manually turn it on and set the time for it to return to home after a lost connection, like in this video. I just thought of that.
Marcel Terpstra Hi, so the USB battery bank is a cheap generic one I bought in China, and the phone holder is just a cheap 5 dollar clear phone case I got at Walmart. Then I used industrial Velcro to connect them together. Check out the first "How to" video and I show it all step by step. Thanks for watching!
Sorry I don't have my instruction paperwork anymore, but if you search CZcams or Google for "connecting xiaomi wifi extender" I know there are lots of videos about it, hope that helps!
Possibly it will work as long as the drone and the cellphone stick to 2.4 ghz band. But I can only verify that if I purchase the actual repeater and give it a try. What a costly experiment that will be ! Lol. Thanks for the feedback Jacob!
Hi Lucas, I'm not really sure what you mean.. Do you mean how to use the wifi extender with a controller? I also use this Xiaomi wifi extender and a MadCatz CTRL bluetooth controller to fly my Bebop 2. It's easy to setup, just connect the wifi extender to the Parrot Bebop 2, then connect the bluetooth controller through the app you use to fly. I typically use Freeflight Pro. In the app you can customize the Mad Catz CTRL controller to fly with the buttons you want. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching
Well I use this setup as a compact travel setup, it's basically a cheap (and much less powerful) alternative to Parrot's Skycontroller's. The controllers have a great range so I don't think using this in conjunction is really necessary. But I haven't tried pairing it with the Bebop 2 at the same time as my Skycontroller, so I'm not sure what it would do. It's worth a shot, it might strengthen the signal.
Hi Martin, I followed the instructions that came with the repeater to connect it to a wifi source. It's basically the same process as with any wifi source. You also need to download an APP for your phone; Xiaomi has it for Android and IOS. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I was interested on picking the extender up but I do have a question. What is your range like without the extra equipment because I usually only get around 50 meters (164.042 feet) with my tablet and I would like to know if I would get that much range without a expensive smartphone.
Hi Scang, so with my Iphone 6 Plus and Iphone 5 only (without the extender) I can reach about 100-150 meters. With my Android running tablet I can reach about 75-100 meters. With my Skycontroller and Iphone 6 Plus I can reach over 1 mile. With my Iphone 6 Plus and this wifi extender I can reach what I've shown in the video, 430 Meters. BUT, keep in mind all of these distances will vary, depending on conditions (weather, terrain, wifi interference, buildings etc.) Also, every device will vary, so it's hard to say what any one device will be. But I think its a pretty safe bet that if you paired your tablet with this wifi extender it will increase the range you can get compared to using the tablet alone. It's also a pretty cheap setup compared to buying a skycontroller 1 or 2. Thanks for watching!

Hi! I don't understand -if smartphone is connected to the repeater then the FF app shows signal strength between repeater an smartphone(that is constant)? and there is no way to see the actual wifi strength from the drone?
Hi Maxim R. so the signal on the FF App shows the wifi strength of the drone (going through wifi repeater) so basically its showing the stronger signal while you fly. Once you connect the phone to the wifi repeater, it locks onto it until you fly out of range. To see the actual wifi strength from the drone you would have to back out of the connection and reconnct to the original Bebop 2 wifi signal. Thanks for watching!
Hello I do not know how you manage to get this to work but I can tell you for a fact it does not work through the freeflight Pro app I have tried it several times with several different Wi-Fi extenders the Wi-Fi extender will connect to the phone but when you go to open the freeflight Pro app to connect the drone it does not connect why
Hi, well considering this was posted 2.5 years ago, I’m guessing they’ve updated/changed the app several times since then, so I’m not sure what it’s like now. I use a DJI Mavic Air currently. Hope you are able to get it to work though!
Hey, so the wifi repeater comes with instructions to set it up, its pretty straightforward. Basically turning on the drone and letting the extender pair with it, and then connecting to that new amplified wifi signal on your phone. It's just like connecting to any wifi source, finding the correct signal and putting in the password. Thanks for watching!
robert cobianchi Hi, yeah as far as I know it works the same. Other people have commented they used it for the parrot one and two. Did you download the Xiaomi App to set it up? Once it's set up it easily connects after the initial setup. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

John Ezell Hi, sorry to hear you're having trouble. I never have that problem with mine, I can always go several hundred feet. You should at least be able to go 100 feet with just the drone and your phone alone, so not sure what the problem might be. Maybe it's because of Wi-Fi interference in your area? Thanks for watching
This lost connection problem happened to me yesterday for 2 times : 1. After takeoff i go for 164ft (i set max altitude 200ft) and lost the connection for almost 1mins 20sec and i try to restart the power button of my skycontroller 2 and it reconnect again automatically. 2. I set my bebop 2 "return delay after disconnection is 15sec" and max distance 1000ft but after i reach 131ft altitude and 50m of distance it lost connection again meanwhile i try to restart my skycontroller2 several times for almost 2mins and it automatically Return to home eventhough my skycontroller2 is not connected. What im tryin to ask is: 1. Is it my bebop2 situation is normal? Cause it makes me afraid to fly reach my max limit setting. 2. When lost connectuon happened what steps will u do? Are u just waiting the drone RTH automatically or u restart the skycontroller again? 3. In ur suggestion which is the best for selecting network? Auto/2ghz/5ghz/manual? Causr i used to play my drone in heavily populated area since its hard to find a clear area in jakarta (indonesia) Thanks.. God bless u n ur family
Boy Caesar Boy Caesar Hi! Thanks for the great questions. So the distance your going before the signal cuts out seems really short, almost the distance your Bebop should fly if only connected to your phone itself without the sky controller. This may seem like a stupid question but are you sure your connected right to the Sky controller and to the Bebop? Otherwise I'm not sure what could be wrong, the sky controller should really be able to go around a mile away, unless you are really experiencing signal disturbance in your area. Maybe talk to Parrot about it, possibly you have a bad unit and they may be able to help. When I lose a connection I always just start walking towards the Bebop to lessen the distance. Then I do the same as you, keep trying to reconnect the wifi connection to the Skycontroller and Bebop. It always makes me a little nervous though haha, so I would always make sure your return to home is set before flying away too far. I always keep mine in auto, depending on what it's recommending, but I don't typically fly mine in heavy populated areas with too much wifi interference. There are some good videos on CZcams that might be able to give better advice, if search for that topic 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting, God bless!

Boy Caesar yeah exactly haha. I always prepare myself when I take off that there's no guarantee it will make it back safe, electronics (especially drones) can always fail haha. Also, did you make sure your return to home was turned on? I've noticed when I updated my App once it turned the "RTH" off, so I had to manually turn it on and set the time for it to return to home after a lost connection, like in this video. I just thought of that.

Marcel Terpstra Hi, so the USB battery bank is a cheap generic one I bought in China, and the phone holder is just a cheap 5 dollar clear phone case I got at Walmart. Possibly it will work as long as the drone and the cellphone stick to 2.4 ghz band. But I can only verify that if I purchase the actual repeater and give it a try. What a costly experiment that will be ! Lol. Thanks for the feedback Jacob!

Hi Lucas, I'm not really sure what you mean.. Do you mean how to use the wifi extender with a controller? I also use this Xiaomi wifi extender and a MadCatz CTRL bluetooth controller to fly my Bebop 2. It's easy to setup, just connect the wifi extender to the Parrot Bebop 2, then connect the bluetooth controller through the app you use to fly. I typically use Freeflight Pro. In the app you can customize the Mad Catz CTRL controller to fly with the buttons you want. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching

Well I use this setup as a compact travel setup, it's basically a cheap (and much less powerful) alternative to Parrot's Skycontroller's. The controllers have a great range so I don't think using this in conjunction is really necessary. But I haven't tried pairing it with the Bebop 2 at the same time as my Skycontroller, so I'm not sure what it would do. It's worth a shot, it might strengthen the signal.

Hi Martin, I followed the instructions that came with the repeater to connect it to a wifi source. It's basically the same process as with any wifi source. You also need to download an APP for your phone; Xiaomi has it for Android and IOS. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I was interested on picking the extender up but I do have a question. What is your range like without the extra equipment because I usually only get around 50 meters (164.042 feet) with my tablet and I would like to know if I would get that much range without a expensive smartphone.
Hi Scang, so with my Iphone 6 Plus and Iphone 5 only (without the extender) I can reach about 100-150 meters. With my Android running tablet I can reach about 75-100 meters. With my Skycontroller and Iphone 6 Plus I can reach over 1 mile. With my Iphone 6 Plus and this wifi extender I can reach what I've shown in the video, 430 Meters. BUT, keep in mind all of these distances will vary, depending on conditions (weather, terrain, wifi interference, buildings etc.) Also, every device will vary, so it's hard to say what any one device will be. But I think its a pretty safe bet that if you paired your tablet with this wifi extender it will increase the range you can get compared to using the tablet alone. It's also a pretty cheap setup compared to buying a skycontroller 1 or 2. Thanks for watching!

Hi! I don't understand -if smartphone is connected to the repeater then the FF app shows signal strength between repeater an smartphone(that is constant)? and there is no way to see the actual wifi strength from the drone?
Hi Maxim R. so the signal on the FF App shows the wifi strength of the drone (going through wifi repeater) so basically its showing the stronger signal while you fly. Once you connect the phone to the wifi repeater, it locks onto it until you fly out of range. To see the actual wifi strength from the drone you would have to back out of the connection and reconnct to the original Bebop 2 wifi signal. Thanks for watching!
Hello I do not know how you manage to get this to work but I can tell you for a fact it does not work through the freeflight Pro app I have tried it several times with several different Wi-Fi extenders the Wi-Fi extender will connect to the phone but when you go to open the freeflight Pro app to connect the drone it does not connect why
Hi, well considering this was posted 2.5 years ago, I’m guessing they’ve updated/changed the app several times since then, so I’m not sure what it’s like now. I use a DJI Mavic Air currently. Hope you are able to get it to work though!

Hey, so the wifi repeater comes with instructions to set it up, its pretty straightforward. Basically turning on the drone and letting the extender pair with it, and then connecting to that new amplified wifi signal on your phone. It's just like connecting to any wifi source, finding the correct signal and putting in the password. Thanks for watching!

John Ezell Hi, sorry to hear you're having trouble. I never have that problem with mine, I can always go several hundred feet. You should at least be able to go 100 feet with just the drone and your phone alone, so not sure what the problem might be. Maybe it's because of Wi-Fi interference in your area? Thanks for watching
This lost connection problem happened to me yesterday for 2 times :
1. After takeoff i go for 164ft (i set max altitude 200ft) and lost the connection for almost 1mins 20sec and i try to restart the power button of my skycontroller 2 and it reconnect again automatically.
2. I set my bebop 2 "return delay after disconnection is 15sec" and max distance 1000ft but after i reach 131ft altitude and 50m of distance it lost connection again meanwhile i try to restart my skycontroller2 several times for almost 2mins and it automatically Return to home eventhough my skycontroller2 is not connected.
What im tryin to ask is:
1. Is it my bebop2 situation is normal? Cause it makes me afraid to fly reach my max limit setting.
2. When lost connectuon happened what steps will u do? Are u just waiting the drone RTH automatically or u restart the skycontroller again?
3. In ur suggestion which is the best for selecting network? Auto/2ghz/5ghz/manual? Causr i used to play my drone in heavily populated area since its hard to find a clear area in jakarta (indonesia)

Boy Caesar Boy Caesar Hi! Thanks for the great questions. So the distance your going before the signal cuts out seems really short, almost the distance your Bebop should fly if only connected to your phone itself without the sky controller. This may seem like a stupid question but are you sure your connected right to the Sky controller and to the Bebop? Otherwise I'm not sure what could be wrong, the sky controller should really be able to go around a mile away, unless you are really experiencing signal disturbance in your area. Maybe talk to Parrot about it, possibly you have a bad unit and they may be able to help. When I lose a connection I always just start walking towards the Bebop to lessen the distance. Then I do the same as you, keep trying to reconnect the wifi connection to the Skycontroller and Bebop. It always makes me a little nervous though haha, so I would always make sure your return to home is set before flying away too far. I always keep mine in auto, depending on what it's recommending, but I don't typically fly mine in heavy populated areas with too much wifi interference. There are some good videos on CZcams that might be able to give better advice, if search for that topic 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting, God bless!

Boy Caesar yeah exactly haha. I always prepare myself when I take off that there's no guarantee it will make it back safe, electronics (especially drones) can always fail haha. I hope you can figure out what's wrong, again parrot customer support has always really helped me with my problems so maybe ask them as well 👍
