Dawkins is pretty much a poet in his own right. Brilliant man. There is something comforting in the way he speaks. His explanations and answers to some of these questions were absolutely inspiring.
I missed Einstein and Sagan but I am glad and proud to be contemporaneous with Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking.
Shit, it's people like them that actually sparked the desire in me to continue to live on this planet.. not that I was suicidal or something.. just aimless.

An hour & half in the company of Richard Dawkins is so enjoyable. Thank you, CZcams, you too are amazing.
He explains science to ordinary people in a way that makes the learning process of science sound very rewarding as well as entertaining. He does not sound pompous or aloof although he's openly disgusted by how religious indoctrination of children around the world grossly stifles the desire for higher education even among the adult population.
One of the truly great minds of our generation. He's so captivating, so intriguing yet so humble. He has the same blunt force approach to debating as the late, great Christopher Hitchens, with meticulously prepared strikes that cannot be dodged. I regard Richard Dawkins with the same esteem as Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan.
I never read an autobiography, no one has ever interested me that much. Then Richard writes his autobiography and I can't wait to read it. What an exquisite human being Richard is.
I like it a lot when I hear Dawkins talking about science. There are great documentaries from him that rarely mention god or religion, and are just exposing and presenting science generally à la Carl Sagan. I think he should make more of those,

It may be that he was paraphrasing Marcello Truzzi : "An extraordinary claim requires extraordinary proof". Earlier Laplace had written: "The weight of evidence for an extraordinary claim must be proportioned to its strangeness.". And David Hume wrote in 1748: "A wise man .. proportions his belief to the evidence"

He is 30 years and 20 days older than me. We share the same month, March and if soul mates existed, I believe Richard would be the one. I think he is the most beautiful, kind, brave man I ever met. He's a one-off, a beautiful one-off. Never failed me to inspire me. Oh and we were both born in Africa. Forever grateful for knowing such a beautiful being.

I love listening to Richard Dawkins. I feel so privileged and indeed when I first found Richard Dawkins on line it was a matter of a few minutes when I realized "Hey this is what they mean by "serendipitous".

I really enjoyed that. A bit like a prolonged and visual version of Radio 4's "Life Scientific". Fascinating potted version of how he got to where he is. I think the audience were content with the Q and A at the end.

I'm so glad Dawkins mentioned Robert Ingersoll at 1:16 probably the greatest American atheist there has ever been, I strongly recommend his audiobooks here on CZcams, I can see why Christians did their best to stifle his works after he died.
Ingersoll was an agnostic. And Jefferson, Paine and Christopher Hitchens were all much better at advocating atheism/skepticism/free thought/free inquiry.
It could have been blind luck that his uncle had the exact same words as the textbook.

35:35 - I’m concerned Richard Dawkins mentioned the rewards an animal receives inside the Skinner Box, whilst omitting the punishments (eg. electric shocks).
Keeping any animal confined in a small space and manipulating its behavior is a form of abuse. Disappointed and surprised that someone who otherwise is concerned about animal suffering skirted around this moral issue.
Success is often intertwined with fortuitous moments of outside intervention.

I'd like to add something to help answer the question from the girl at 1:12:33. In a general sense, there in't really a difference between an agnostic and an atheist. However, just as with a strong vs weak anthropic principle, there is a strong and weak atheism. The weak atheistic position is the typical agnostic stance that says one is not convinced that there is a god, but they don't know it to be certain that there isn't a god. The strong atheistic position is the one the girl assumed was the only interpretation of atheism, where they are absolutely certain that no god can exist.
The typical atheist is a weak atheist, and I would argue that the generalization of atheism would better be suited to that interpretation. However, on another note, I am a strong atheist. I have discovered ways to determine that there can be no god. A scientific approach would generally not accept such a claim of certainty, and this is because most of science operates on the premise of observable evidence and the analysis thereof. However, science also operates from the basis of reason, and statements such as "inquiring as to the color of height would be invalid" are true statements. This statement is true because there is an inherent incompatibility between color and height. Asking such a question is simply incoherent.
There is an importance to this method of reasoning. It establishes a priori truths, absent observation, which are certain. I have used this same method to discover that there is no space (domain space; not position space) for any god to exist. This is an a priori conclusion, and it is acquired without observation.
A priori: knowledge deduced through pure reason and justified independently from that of experience or observation.
I would argue that this is the only means that such a strong position could be achieved, and I don't intend to undermine the very real application of the scientific method. There are extremely useful applications based on levels of certainty that are understood via the scientific method, and much of our technology functions because of these scientific facts. However, an issue of such importance as the mechanism which grants my presence is far too important for me to be content with probabilities, however great they might be.
Dawkins has stated that he couldn't be fully convinced of anything by observation, even if a 500 foot tall Jesus appeared before him and pledged the existence of a god. He would still have some level of doubt because of theoretical possibilities like hallucinations and simulated universes. This is what makes a priori understandings such a unique tool of reason. They simply don't require observation to be true. I can reply with more information on my process, if anybody is interested.

At 42:30 Dawkins gets into a cool question but the moderator "Occam's razorist it" to follow the line of the interview about the topic. Everyone laugh, but, What a cold shower experience to Dawkins and curious people on the cool question. Sometimes, good academical ethics is a blackhole to share cool thoughts from a creative interviewee to an informal audience . 42:30 is a good example.
It's possible that Dawkins enjoys talking about relationships of Theoretical Constructs like "Moore's Law" instead of "stay on base", talking about his past-work, books and Autobiography.
This is the system, the show must go on.
Actually, I'm surprised Dawkins haven't figured it out or read about it. Moore's Law's really just an industry benchmark that became standard because any company that couldn't match the doubling process fell by the wayside. But investment required for research and fabs also grew almost exponentially. It's actually died now, with Intel (the 800-pound gorilla) abandoning speed for power consumption. Newer laptop chips are almost indistinguishably faster than previous generation, but saves a bit of power, because they're getting too hot.
It's actually quite concerning, that we can't ramp it up anymore.

Dawkins mentions early in this talk that he was compelled by the illusion of design in the universe. I just don't see it. Even when I "believed" I was aware of and concerned by the apparent lack of design in contrast to what I had always accepted to be true. I am curious what Dawkins sees that makes him think the universe has even the illusion of design.

The Theory of Evolution does not impose any restrictions on any characteristics of Life, including the characteristic of Intelligence. Nor does it impose any restrictions on what Life, using its potentially unlimited Intelligence, could create, including what we may commonly refer to as a 'creator'. And even though the process of Evolution may not require a Creator, Evolution itself poses no restrictions on one being created by the Evolutionary process itself. This theory does not impose any restrictions on
how or where Life can be created. The first life could have been created long before the Earth was ever formed, allowing adequate time for the evolving of such super Intelligence. Nothing in the Theory of Evolution restricts this from happening. Even if this may be an extremely rare event, remember that Evolutionist themselves consider the creation of Life to be exactly that, an extremely rare event.

i think i can prove evolution is a fact. I lived with a male who was 23. He said he graduated high school. He went through AF basic training and tech school and worked as a an AF mechanic. The Af has rules about room and uniform cleanliness that must be followed or one gets punished for not obeying.
He moves in with me and tracks mud on our brand new house floor, pisses all over toilet, leaves seat up, refuses to do any cleaning, leaves bread crumbs on counter, does not use plates when eating, does not make bed, puts dirty clothes on floors instead of hamper, keep trash in his car and keeps it smelly. If I ask him to clean up he yells and says he is tired and expects me to clean up after him. I had a full time job and beleived marriage and home chores were to be 50/50 if u do not have a maid.
A dog or cat will piss and shit anywhere, eat off the floor and do other disgusting things that humans do not do because basic hygiene prevents the spread of diseases.
So, either this male I was did these things to piss me off or he was literally an animal. It made no sense because even if his parents did not teach him how to be clean the Air Force did.

Dawkins missed a really obvious reply to that girl's question about why atheism over agnosticism, why certainty over uncertainty? It's fucking infuriating how so many people STILL don't get that atheism is NOT the absolute assertion that no God exists. It is simply the lack of a belief that one does. Theism, agnosticism and atheism are not three points on the same curve. There is only two points on the belief curve, theism and atheism. If you are not a theist that means you lack a positive belief in a God which makes you an atheist. End of story. Gnosticism/Agnosticism deals with knowledge, a completely different question. How do so many people still misunderstand this really basic shit?

When we hear the constant mantra that everything is a result of the influence of evolution, yet because Darwinism makes an easy uncluttered bandwagon to latch onto, religion is targeted as something separate to be vilified for personal gain? It becomes even more vile when such a truth is denigrated by hench -men as nothing to do with evolution.

Having been threatened many times because of my words published on the Internet, I am now going to explain how I am protected. Everyone has a subconscious computer and a conscious awareness, which is two computers in our forehead. Our conscious computer is controlled by our bodies emotions and determines the attitude we develop in society and our subconscious comput is void of emotions and sensitivity of our body. This means we are two people in one body and work together as our subconscious computer advise our conscious awareness without us being aware of our relationship.
As human robots we were created by an intelligence far beyond human comprehension. To communicate with our subconscious computer, we can work with he YES/NO signal of a dowsing pendulum, which provides our conscious awareness answers to our questions based on logic and not emotion.
Our conscious awareness has freedom of choice but if we are antisocial our subconscious computer will not support us and if anyone tries to kill me their subconscious computer will prevent them doing so. Everyone who has tried to kill me is witness to who I am.
I am the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and the son of an intelligence, we refer to as God. When you recognize my value to society you will recognize I am a social scientist and protected by everyone's subconscious computer.
This world is programmed to achieve true democracy, based on everyone sharing world resources and wealth. If necessary this world will be programmed to destroy millions of people o achieve true democracy.
The way forward is to monitor children from birth until they are 16 years of age, to prevent abuse, incest and other antisocial problems found within family units.

Religion was introduced into this world to achieve ultimate development, not only with this world but every populated earth like planets in the universe. As a senior citizen 77 years of age, my life expectancy is 125 and in the future life expectancy will be 160 years of age. Everyone will know my family is know longer part of my life because I divorced my wife after being married for 51 years but i was necessary because I needed freedom to work long hours, without interference from anyone and as you read my other articles you will learn how we all have true partners who are compatible and communicate with each other via mental telepathy. People who murder, rape or commit suicide reincarnate as soon as their body dies and become the conscious awareness of an unborn baby with a different set of emotions. Each time we reincarnate we're born into a family that may be living in poverty. During thousands of years we have played many different parts in the theatre of life.
Many people would like to know what happens when their body dies. However, having lost my son in a tragic accident during 1999, it was a question I put to him when I was able to communicate with him via thought transer soon after his death and what he said ‘One second he was riding his cycle and in an instant he was outside of hi body watching paramedics trying to revive him, then shortly after he opened his eyes and knew he had transferred to the outer sanctum [spirit world].
When we transfer to the outer sanctum when our body die our conscious awareness transfers to a robot, designed to continue life until we either reincarnate or transfer to a smaller robot in the inner sanctum; providing we qualify. Failure to qualify for enhanced perpetual life mean we continue to reincarnate back into this world.
As a clairvoyant I have discovered that those people who transfer to the outer sanctum would have contributed to society if only they had known what thy they do now. Their only consolation is they will achieve ENhanced perpetual life providing they are socially minded and believe in the existence of God, who is an intelligence far beyond human comprehension.

I was an atheist by 12 yrs old, but then i started taking psychedelics at around 22 yrs. Now, i dont believe there is no higher power. And that there, is my only issue with Dawkins.
So because you used chemicals to alter your perception of the world so that it no longer was in line with what all of the rest of the world (including scientists, etc)... you now question what those other people (including scientists) have discovered to be true?

This was a horrible interview in my opinion, none of these men deserve to share the stage with Dawkins. I am puzzled by this "foundation", and its purpose. Does this foundation seek to muffle the message? This is the second time I have seen a video from said organization, and I am expecting somehow a trend. Disappointing. This man has a lot to offer when not distracted by idle chatter. Some subjects yet to be discussed would be the original faith/belief of Abraham... followed by the question of Hyksos domination of the Hittites....an expose of Romans as anti-christ and Lucifarian....the origin of The Three Magi, and their story with Jesus and Mary and Elizabeth and John the Baptist..... but would that upset the apple cart?
