The irony is that every "great" empire is considered great for being vast. Yet when it comes to the British Empire, it's always seen as an oppressor. The problem isn't that people like you are wrong; it's that there's an obvious double standard held against them.
My heart goes out to all the victims on both sides. Regardless of politics or one sided media, I think we can all agree that killing innocent children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and grandparents isn't something to be taken lightly, no matter what the nationality or the viewpoint. Let's focus on saving the people, instead of their leaders.
Vox is one sided media. Pretty much everything that happened to the Palestinian were a result of what Palestinian did (that Vox omitted in its narration). You start a war, you could lose your or part of your land. It's just the way it is so don't start a war. Those lands used to belong to Egypt and Jordan and lost due to these countries starting a war. Japan and Germany lost lands the same way in WWW II. Having a different religion/race/ethnicity is not an entitlement to having own state.
Forgot the part where Uk and France promised the land to both Palestinians and Israelis seperately and then cut it up for themselves before giving up their imperialist aspirations there and dumping the problem they made on the UN.
The land didn't have to be "promised" to the Palestinians, they were already living there. The Israelis were the ones who migrated from Europe under British supervision.
After defeating another imperialist power. I swear people like you lack any sense of nuance at all. Did they blunder the aftermath of WWI and cutting up the ottoman empire? Of course. But what were they going to do? Shake hands with the ottoman empire and say "Hey we understand, here's your empire back. We're friends now, right?" No. That's not reality. No one knew how to decompile the ottoman empire because they didn't even have internal borders that reflected historical population. The ottomans pretty much genocided everything they conquered and subjugation was given to oligarchs within the empire. But hey keep preaching western imperialism bad and ignore every other empire that ever existed before it and remain completely unaware of what a power vacuum is I guess...

3:47, that description of the 6 day war is really weird. Basically implying that out of fear Israel suddenly attacked all its Arab neighbours which is not what happened. It started with Egypt again banning all Israeli ships from using the Suez Canal despite Israel warning them not to do that again or there would be war. Egypt bans Israeli ships after receiving the warning and then took of military positions all along the border with Israel. Israel seeing this as what it is, I preamble to war engaged Egypt in surprise attacks. Technically, yes firing the first shots but Egypt was warned to not bar their trade and set up positions to attack. After Israel made good o their promise to Egypt the other Arab nations attack Israel in defence of their ally, which Israel responded to. Super weird that the video framed it like Israel just suddenly attacked its neighbours unprovoked.

In 1946, they could have given full citizenship, suffrage, and representation of all the people in Palestine - Jews and Arabs - in a newly formed secular democratic state. Palestinians could act like civilized humans for a short period of time. They could take a stand against hamas and say enough of this nonsense. But we all know that won't happen. It's literally against their religion.
assuming all the info is true, great summary. 2 questions: 1. what exactly does israel want from gaza? if they wanted the land, why not just kick everyone out decades ago? what does israel gain from keeping the people in gaza trapped for so long? 2. how was this "easily preventable?" as stated at the end of the video.
1. Israel wants all of the land for itself, they can't just kick everyone out because that definitely cause a war and they'd probably lose allies. 2. Absolutely nothing about this is easily preventable
1. They don't want anything, just to stop shooting at them. In fact, all the conflicts that have erupted in recent years are because Gaza threw missiles at Israel. 2. They are not easily solvable, this is something to say in order to dehumanize the Israelis
I was also a bit confused-I think he was talking about how israel could have prevented suffering and the subsequent uprising/attack by not closing border crossings and limiting supplies to gaza
So sick of media feeding one side of every story. Vox should be embarrassed by this video's characterization of this ongoing crisis that has spanned hundreds of years.
"The Oslo Agreement also promised Palestinians some level of autonomy and a path to statehood in five years...but that never happened." It would be nice to know WHY, Vox...
In Oslo Accords, the West Bank was divided into three separate areas: Area A, comprising 17% of the West Bank where most Palestinians live, is supposed to be under PA civilian and security control (under the overall control of the Israeli army); Area B, comprising 23% of the West Bank, is under PA civilian control and full Israeli military control; and Area C, comprising 60% of the West Bank where most settlements are located, is under full Israeli military and civilian control. Yitzhak Rabin, the Prime Minister of Israel was killed by Israeli extremists and terrorists, and since then the government didn't want to give up the land they occupied and made 'so-called' settlements. An interesting fact is that they occupied even more areas after the Oslo Accords.
"Far-right Israelis were opposed to the Oslo Accords, and Isreali PM, Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in 1995 by a right-wing Israeli extremist for signing them"
Im not a far right-winged Israeli. but everybody in Israel now acknowledges that the oslo accords were a complete disaster, Yitzhak Rabin who I respect a lot, made a peace treaty with a terrorist, and later admitted that it was a mistake, and if he would've met him before the signing of the treaty he wouldnt have done it.

It was easily preventable. Don't steal Palestinian's F* LAND. If the British wanted to house the Jews, they should have given them a piece of BRITAIN. Not Palestinian land which is not theirs. This is like asking if the sky is blue.
Observing this issue in the US has been very intriguing because regardless of party affiliations, there are supporters on both sides and dissenting opinions about governing bodies’ responsibilities. A good consensus to come to is that the suffering of regular people/civilians at the hands of politicians is horrifying and unjust. Terrorist groups murdering innocent Israelis and the Israeli government bombing innocent Palestinians in a ploy to get to Hamas is sickening to witness, we are seeing the worst of humanity play out right now, senselessly killing those we are meant to live in harmony with because of land occupation, subjugation, differences in ethnicities, and a scramble for power. War is despicable.
Hamas purposefully sets up their own bases and weapons stores in residential areas in order to make Israel hesitate in bombing, and if they do, which they have to eventually in war, the headlines are "ISRAEL BOMBS RESIDENTIAL AREA!" Hamas genuinely doesnt care about their citizens and has used them often as human shields .context is important. do your research.
American mentality is the root problem of why the masses don't consider having a free opinion, they consider it terrorism only when the victim is Jewish but not vice versa even if Palestinian victims/Muslim victims are thousands of times more, thus in their views their lives are expendable. As long as people vote for parties that support terrorism against Palestinians, Palestinians will keep getting massacred with support from the USA.
They also at 2:30 show the 1947 British Mandate of Palestine borders when discussing "historic Palestine" under Ottoman rule. There was no "Palestine" in the Ottoman Empire. Prior to the 20th century, that was largely a European term. Under the Ottomans, it was called the Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem and was considered a part of Ottoman Syria. There is some good context in this video, but there are a lot of factual inaccuracies as well. One example is referring to an "occupation of Gaza that continues to this day". Gaza has not, in fact, been occupied to this day. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005. Since then, there has often been a blockade on Gaza which restricts the free flow of goods and people. You may not care about the difference, but there is a difference and so long as folks are making videos to relay what others will take as factual information, they should hold themselves to a high standard with regard to the terms they use and facts they reference. The West Bank is the territory which has remained under occupation and they are governed by a completely different authority than Gaza.
Never once was the term terrorist or terrorism used to describe Hamas and their actions. Vox just conveniently skirts around the fact that Hamas is an internationally recognized terrorist organization.
Hamas intentionally attacks civilians to cause maximum death and destruction possible. The IDF attacks Hamas (who use Palestinians as human shields) trying to minimise the death and destruction as much as possible. The 2 are incomparable

I have always applauded Vox on being an excellent source of impartial information but the numerous distortions of fact in this video do need to be addressed, like saying that Israeli incursions into UN-assigned Arab land occurred *before* the Arab invasion of Israel in 1948. In actual fact the attempted destruction of the new state of Israel was the only reason for this defensive incursion. Plus I know this was glossed over but the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 and the eviction of all Jews living there was not adequately covered given how many times in the beginning of the video it was stated "the occupation continues to this day," implying it was an unbroken chain.
Very conveniently skewed towards Palestine, completely forgot to mention how they were who did not accept the UN partition of the land and started the war the next day
I agree with you that the phrase "the occupation continues to this day" did not correctly describe the current situation. However, considering Israel's complete control over Gaza, it's not far from the truth. When Israel controls everything going in and out of Gaza, from water to cement, it's as if Israel still occupies Gaza, from a figure of speech.
Why USA has been silent over israeli genocide when Russia invaded Ukraine France,USA,Britain responded swiftly to help Ukraine.but why now israeli on Gaza is silent
Why is there a distinction made between Ottoman 'rule' and British 'occupation'? The Ottoman Empire didn't ask Palestinians or Jews nicely if they could rule over them; they conquered them from Egypt (the Mamluk state) and then asserted their rule with force, just the same as the British did centuries later. This is a genuine question, not a loaded one intended to incite.
I would guess that the proper reply to whataboutism is that it doesn't matter whether Alexander the Great does it, Ottoman rulers do it, or the British do it, or the Jewish people do it or Hitler does it. Repeated wrongs still do not make a right.
@@44jimcordell31 Indeed, which is why the question was posited in the first place! However I do not consider it to be whataboutism as it was not framed as a response to the issue as a whole.
Because there is a *very important* distinction between conquests of the past and colonialism. Empires of the past conquered surrounding territory and considered themselves as a part of that land i.e. the empire's own identity was tied to this territory, rulers themselves called this land their home, and their subjects were its citizens. This is the case for Ottoman rule of Palestine. Colonialism, on the other hand, is only about 500 years old and began with the advent of capitalism. It involved conquering land all over the world with the primary intent of plundering resources & labor of the territory to bring profits _back_ to the colonial country's real homeland. In the case of British occupation, this home country was the UK.

Vox is one sided media. Pretty much everything that happened to the Palestinian were a result of what Palestinian did (that Vox omitted in its narration).

In addition to the reformation of the entire nation there would have to be reparations, demilitarization and amnesty on both sides, and a right to return for all Palestinians who were displaced.

Yitzhak Rabin, the Prime Minister of Israel was killed by Israeli extremists and terrorists, and since then the government didn't want to give up the land they occupied and made 'so-called' settlements. An interesting fact is that they occupied even more areas after the Oslo Accords.

In 1948, Israel declared independence in accordance with the UN resolution. The Arabs then invaded in what is known as the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Jordan and Egypt rule Gaza and the West Bank respectively
In 1967 in what is known as the Six Day War, Egypt cut off Israeli vessels at the Strait of Tiran, this was seen as an act of war and even the Egyptian leader signalled his troops in Gaza ready for war. Israel launched an invasion into the Sinai of Egypt, Golan Heights of Syria and West Bank from occupiers Jordan and Gaza from occupiers Egypt. These Arab armies launched an invasion into Israel

When you are living in an open air prison that's tantamount to being occupied.

Never once was the term terrorist or terrorism used to describe Hamas and their actions. Vox just conveniently skirts around the fact that Hamas is an internationally recognized terrorist organization.
they do the same thing as the idf, it's reasonable to view them as equals
Hamas intentionally attacks civilians to cause maximum death and destruction possible. The IDF attacks Hamas (who use Palestinians as human shields) trying to minimise the death and destruction as much as possible. The 2 are incomparable
@@ElliotShayle The false moral equivalence that is prevalent amongst people is truly alarming. You know the thought experiment of “what would one do if they saw the rise of Nazism”? Sadly it’s no longer a thought experiment, and many people nowadays would not have done anything about it, or worse, they would joined them.
A Palestinian mustve made this documentary
Such one-sided video
Very conveniently skewed towards Palestine, completely forgot to mention how they were who did not accept the UN partition of the land and started the war the next day
Plus they glossed over all history prior to the Ottoman empire
Thank you. I found this peace to be heavily one sided. Rather than impartial for that same oversight.
It's funny how you are expecting from the people to not defend their lands and blame them for it
I agree with you that the phrase "the occupation continues to this day" did not correctly describe the current situation. However, considering Israel's complete control over Gaza, it's not far from the truth. When Israel controls everything going in and out of Gaza, from water to cement, it's as if Israel still occupies Gaza, from a figure of speech.
There is so much wrong in this video, laughable.
Vox have a pathological enmity towards the British.
Because it helps their agenda
This completely omitted a lot of context of the 1948 war and the 1947 UN proposed borders.
Could you expand on this? I think we all agree, the more information we have, the better decisions we can make. . .
From my understanding the UN proposed borders based on where the Jews and where the Arabs lived. The Arabs said no and went to war. After the lost the war many were relocated. Also from what I read on wikipidea the six day war was started by the other nations not isreal
Then share them here please
What if China comes and demands half of America and offers America the other half.
You read on wikipedia? lol all it take to make change in a Wikipedia article is an account. You ommited a lot of context! Who gave UN right to come and divide the land giving 2/3 to Isreal while they had 50% less population? Would you agree to even share, and even lose that much?@@sross4981
Hamas officials openly admit that they are not responsible for the Gaza population and that their own civilians’ well being does not concern them. When asked why Hamas built 500 km of tunnels but did not build any bomb shelters for the Gaza civilians in an interview with the Russia Today TV(RT) channel, Senior Hamas official Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook said: “The tunnels in Gaza are meant to protect our (Hamas) operatives and not the civilians. 75% of the residents in Gaza are refugees, therefore it is the responsibility of the UN to protect them”. It is the other way around... I have no idea what she's talking about in this video, she's clearly not educated enough on this topic to make a video explaining the situation.
The israelis militarily declared war first after the arab nations said they are preparing for against israel and blocked Israeli ships tavel, which israel took for an unofficial war declaration
Israel made the first strike in 1967. That's a fact.
Israel claims it was preemptive, but they did start the war. Egypt mobilized in advance of the war. However, Israel said it would declare war if the Straits of Tiran were closed to Israel by Egypt. The straits were closed as tensions escalated in early 1967.

Heres an interesting fact. The population of "palestine" was recorded in the 1920's. There were 700,000 Palestinians, including a large minority of Christians.
In 2023, the population of gaza is 2 million and West bank around 2 million.
