- The Messor colony! It's time for these ants to move into their new formicarium. The whole move took 3 days because there was a unfortunately surprising. This colony needs more space than I thought. Have fun watching the move!
Colony bought at anthouse

Excellent video! Love the time-lapse shots :D
Thanks mate!
Can u send me one of ur formicariums? Maybe?
SMallDuCk 9 I respect you trying.
Yep its great
@@smallduck968 bug respect
👍 love it great video, I am not able to get that type of ant in my area, so always great to have the ability to see them in someway. Been collecting ant for 40 years, but just figured out how to keep them alive, great feeling after all these years to be a antkeeper and not just a watcher.
Great vid realy love your chanell
Learn to spell yourself before you go correcting others.
thanks for sharing very useful
amazing! exelent footage, very nice setup.
What is that water system you have for your ants?
i wonder how long all those seeds would last with no refills till they are all gone?
Very nice work!
Good vid bro!
Where is the queen? Did she move to the new formicarium before you opened the second nest?
Excellent!!
Those are cool super majors!
Nice 👍
Sehr sehr sehr gutes Video 👍🏻👍🏻😊🎉🎉
Great! Happy they Moved with joy ;D gl with the colony :) also what is your plan if they outgrow this nest because IT look like that might happen soon xd edit: lol auto correct messed some words up sorry
On the left and right side behind the front nest are additionally nests. I've made the chamber about twice as deep as the front chambers. So I hope there should be space for about 2000 ants in this formicarium. It should be enough space for this year. I really hope so ^^
Were are u from ?
Estupendo.
Just an opinion.... i think you wasted space in the middle, Id of drilled all the way through the bocks and filled the middle section with ground the can dig and create their own bigger nest area. That way when they need extra space they will make it themselves
How do you hydrate the nest?
Eamonn K piss
at 0:23 the hydrator is at the right
@@adlad885 that's for drinking water, he simply sprinkles water on the top and it seeps down into the nest
Love the vids
What is the name of the seeds they get
Would black ants suit a setup like this?
Where you buy such nice formicarium or did you build it? Nice vid!
thanks! I've built it myself, there also a video about it
One question, how do you hydrate the nest? Because the Messor Barbarus needs a humid habitat isn't it? Great video keep posting videos like these!
Sergi Calvet Carné Messors need nests to be in the dry side. They comne from dry parts of the world. They store seeds underground so if it was too moist the seeds would sprout and rot
How are you hydrating the nest?
JLG Reptiles piss
They grew pretty fast after the last video nice videos to
Yeah, I never thought this colony would grow that big in the first year :D
What seeds do u feed them???
What seeds do you feed
canary seeds
dont force them they will just move in naturally.
You should have more subs :)
I want to make something similar but how do you keep this hydrated?
just water the top, the nest will absorb the water
I have a question about the old nest:Did you ever directly water the main nest area, where they store their brood, their seeds etc. ? I'm asking because I'm unsure if I should water mine.I'm worried that the seeds would sprout.
Yeah I often watered their old nest directly. The ants take care for the seeds, they always store them at a dry spot. Just watch them after watering, you will see if your ants like or hate the moisture. :
AmazingAnts Thanks for the answer.
AmazingAnts seriously, thanks! I watered it with just a litlle bit of water and they loved it and immediately began to dig
what do you use to prevent escapes?
I use PTFE, also had good experience with talcum powder
Hello friend
Is it possible for a Barbaros ant to accept eggs of the same quality but from another colony
I really want to know
Because I put a few larvae to my queen Barbaros.
I didn't see any strange behavior except that the queen had kissed the larvae.
But what I'm afraid of is that when the larvae grow up.
To kill the queen.
Is it possible 😭😭
I only have a queen, so I'm afraid.
Wow, nice colony! Hope mine will grow as big someday :)
did it?
@@Jack-mv8iq I'd say a bit over half that size, as of right now! They fill an 8"x8" 3d-printed formicarium pretty comfortably. They're a bit of a nightmare to keep well-contained, haha. (C. chroma, so slow growing)
@@peeblekitty5780 that's good to know... I want a ant colony to and I am waiting for my queen to grow her workers yet and I am not even sure what species she is
@@Jack-mv8iq oh nice!! My colony probably would have only taken like 3 years to reach this size but I messed up a few times in the early days. Camponotus can really bounce back!
@@peeblekitty5780 ohhh yeah they do, and they take a long time to develop... I caught 4 of camponotus queens but I let them go because I am not the patient type 🥲. I need a big colony soon... Just...
Manno!
hi, what camera do you use?
I use a canon 650d
Very nice videos :) Like your colony. One question: Bist du zufällig Deutscher? xD
thank you und ja :D
AmazingAnts Wie cool c: Na dann aktiviere ich mal die Glocke XD
What thermometer do you use ?
and do you cover the nest with foil or something ? Or do you just leave it open to light ?
I leave them open to light and dont really use a thermometer, I have a infrared thermometer and I only check the temperature when I change something.
How old is this colony?
I received them in january with about 25 workers
Love your channel, one question though, what material did you use for the bottom part, I want to know so I can copy you!!! Also, you should have more subs like ants Australia you're good enough to easily, hope you do someday!!!
Liam O'Connor ytong it’s like concrete
2:33 ngl I that was kinda funny, I love these videos and I'm getting a colony
I hate time lapse videos...
gonna make more of them in future
