    I bought my 2270 in 1971 when this model came out. I wanted the model 19 but it was $1,000, so this one (still super expensive $599.) was fine for me. I pushed a set of Bose 901’s (also brand new to the market). Also new was a Rabco ST-4 turntable. This was 49 years ago and the 2270 still works as advertised. I have a
    TaKen it in for cleaning and checkups twice over the years but it has never failed me. Cheap at twice the price. Marantz taught me that you do get you pay for...

      Russ, I bought mine in 1973, ( still have it! ) and also had Bose 901's. They were good times!

      Bought mine in 1974 as a college graduation present to myself and ran it into a set of JBL L100s with a Pioneer PL-A45D turntable. Very good times!

    I love those old Marantz receivers. They sounded awesome. And were built well. If I were to get a vintage receiver, Marantz would probably be the one. My friend had that receiver.

    Great walk through. Dad bought us one when we were kids in the early 70s. I still use it to this day. I didn’t realize just what a gem I really have.

    I hope someday Marantz would produce a retro model similar to this one for the mass consumer market. (with some updated features)

    Built like a tank, some MARANTZ owners used to recover them from house fires or from accidentally falling out the back of a pickup truck on to a highway and then plug them in and they worked fine.

    Bought my 2270 in 1973...Damn, should have kept it! Sold to a friend a few years later, who still owns it, having recently had updated with new caps, etc! Great receiver, for sure!

    Great tutorial! Bought mine back in ‘74! Was stored away for quite awhile.. just drug it out & had a old school guy who repairs old stereos and TVs go thru it. Got “new school” speakers hooked up just now & should get my Harmon Kardon Bluetooth thingy tomorrow enabling to run IPad & IPhone thru it. Can’t wait🙂

    I bought my 2270 at the thrift store with the wood cabinet for $12 ! Took it to my audio guy to get it cleaned . He cleaned it and said everything is working like it should and charged my $75 . I refinished the cabinet and hooked them up to my Altec Valencia’s 🤗 🥰 my friend sold them to me for $400 because his wife didn’t like them 🤪😉

    I saw an advertisement years ago and it featured this Marantz receiver (I think) that was recovered from a Bikini and High Heels Tickle Fight and Oil Wrestling Compound where the unit was continuosly knocked over and bodily fluids continuosly spilled on it yet the unit continued to maintain it's tickling and speedy panty removing abilities.

    I think you skipped the antenna attenuation switch which I just discovered by reading the manual online and mine was switched to "on" which is why my FM reception was so bad. Once I discovered it and switched it off my reception improved a bunch! Now I have to replace my stereo indicator bulb because I know that it's out not just because I had poor reception, causing it to never come on.

    The balance gives one the ability to, based upon the artist and the configuration of the instruments, to actually balance what you hear. Screw the studios decision on how I should hear the music as they did.

I cant believe what the recievers back then went for new holy cow thats a lot of money now nevermind back then .. Ben - I'm looking to buy a 50 - 60 watt receiver from the golden era (late 1970s) that has low THD, great FM reception with nice clean overall sound. In 1976 I compared Technics, Pioneer, Yamaha, Kenwood, Concept and Marantz and ended up buying the Concept 4.5 because it was the cheapest and I was making only $40 a month delivering newspapers. I quickly found that the Concept was a little "noisy" and had poor FM reception as compared to some friends' Pioneers and Marantz. Which receivers would you recommend I look to purchase?

  • @TheMrTTT

  • @richardchuray329
    @richardchuray329 Před 2 lety

    I have one and it seems like I need to turn the volume knob up a little bit further than I do for other units. It still hits its power rating. Do you see this as well. I’m using aux input

    • @NovaluxStereophonic
      @NovaluxStereophonic  Před 2 lety

      It could be something simple like your aux input source level is low. Find a good FM stereo station and see how that compares in volume to the source you have plugged into AUX.

      Ive heard the speakers he mentioned are awsome ive not yet had the opportunity to experience it although .. But if they are as good as the speakers of good quality were back then its gonna be the shit i remember a pair of pioneer hpm 100. S that sounded awsome and a set of bose 301 bookshelf speakers that all were top of the line and when we listened to rush or the eagles so did our neighbors lmao ha what i cant hear today because of them lol

      I have a model 2226 restored and repair by myself, and it drives my sansui SP5500x with 15 woofer effortlessly, marantz used an iron transistor that produced high current, and an active transistorized tone control that's why they sounds great and clean when restored and calibrated properly.......

    • @ghostownaproach
      @ghostownaproach Před 3 lety +1

      Is your FM antenna sufficient? I have this receiver and the same problem on FM but only because I live in a valley where line of sight reception is poor. In order for FM to be stereo the signal needs to be strong enough and when a weaker signal is received it will play only in mono.

    • @EddieJazzFan
      @EddieJazzFan Před 3 lety +1

      @@ghostownaproach I have a roof FM antenna on my house and I live 15 miles from Manhattan. The signal is as strong and clear as you can possibly get so it's gotta be the Marantz. Anyway, other receivers that I have work fine on the same antenna.

    Marantz began as an expensive audiophile brand and so were ummercifully slagged by the audiophile community when it went downmarket and began selling to the unwashed, like me. I was a little embarrassed when I bought my 2270 from a Highland Appliance store. I still have it in working condition and now could not care less about the snobs.
