I BOUGHT A DIRT CHEAP COMPLETE 1967 CAMARO RS *Garage Find*

- Apparently I own most of America's dream car. My neighbor came over and offered me his 1967 Chevy Camaro RS for an unheard of price. It has a complete history and ran and drove when he parked it. We're going to dig it out of the garage, drag it home and get started on the new project. This is going to be nuts it's getting all the dream swap parts again. We're going to build the whole car in two days so it's ready for LS Fest East in September.

Sounds like a well optioned car but it’s not going to be a big money maker I have two that are the same as it and they are going to be restomods . Costs around $80k to restore it and it is not worth that much when you are done with it. They only sell for between $40k to $60k for a fresh restoration. Restomods sell from $80k to $250k depends on what you do to them. Only takes a couple minutes to look at what is for sale and what’s been sold at auction over the last year.
Yup, 30 second look at the market told me the exact same thing. Plus I'm keeping this car ♥️
But what about keeping history alive when it’s something other than a base straight 6 car? Who said he has to go full rotisserie restoration just don’t cut it up. But JR by liking this comment and his own video evidence doesn’t care about cars he cares about money. He may enjoy fixing things he loves that pursuit of money more than any 4 wheel car could ever be. But go ahead ruin something when you have a better car from a modifying sense literally sitting in front of it at one point.
WatchJRGo what about all your fans/viewers who are adamant about you not destroying the car? Go against and run the risk of upset your base of plow ahead with the hopes new people come join? If you plan on keeping it the car why check the market to know what you’d do with the car? That seems like money first car second thru and thru
Thanks for the reply Joseph I appreciate it immensely, don't mind me I am just an old school guy that appreciates old-school muscle and leaving things original that's just me though I do understand how much they cost to do a proper restore depending on how bad they are and whether they are worth it and of course a lot of those Vehicles sell for a lot more like you know for instance a Hemi Cuda all original matching numbers very rare there are so many rare cars out there but one thing for sure the more that we take them apart and lose the originality of them they will soon be gone. But yes I do understand the functionality of what you want to do with the vehicle me personally I like them original no matter what but that's just me if I was going to do a big swap I would probably hold on to the original matching numbers parts just in case but like I said it's to each his own and I respect that also please stay safe stay well and as always God bless
@@WatchJRGo I'm older than you so I can tell you with real life experience "things change". If you LS swap it you should hold onto the engine and transmission if they're original to the car.
Like a lot of people are saying, please don't swap that engine if it's numbers matching!
its his car, he can swap a tesla motor in it and chop the roof off, if he wants to.
@@hojnikb dude get bent. He's doing this swap for a dumbass burn out competition.
actschp1 nothing wrong with that. Its his car and he can do what he wants. Its a free country.
People get real pissy over these types of rustbuckets. Its not an immaculate classic that he is butchering. It would rust to the ground otherwise.
@@hojnikb I'm not sure you saw that same car I did. I live in the rust belt and that car was anything but a rust bucket. Just no.
@@actschp1 This car would need so much work and money to get to factory fresh state, it's not even funny. A completly rebuilt engine, wiring, bodywork allaround, paint, pretty much complete interior, suspension, brakes are just the big ticket items.
Jrgo is not that kind of channel to do that.
As i said, this would have otherwise sat in a garage until it would degrade into rust.
If he wants to ls swap it and runs some burnouts, its fine. At least car got some love and some driving. It could always be restored back by a fanatic, if he decided to sell it with the original engine included.
It's not like he is chopping it in half.
If you found a rare numbers matching car it would be foolish to hack it up and sell off the engine, etc.
Good thing he didn't.
Better not or I'm gonna tell amberginie?
But its Not anything rare or special. It's a generic RS Camaro. The original engines weren't Orange. The rebuilt engines were.
@Bailey Hatfield Lmao women and poor people got me.
I would not swap that engine, they're only original once.
Very profound observation but sadly none so blind as those that will not see. I am no American car buff but even I know that originality is everything - matching numbers? Christ when I was restoring classic bikes that was gold right there.
So it survived 53 years all to be stripped😡 I hope not!
some people just dont know the value of a numbers matching gen 1, stupidity is real with this one .
Numbers matching if so keep it together. Motor shouldn’t be swapped
Please don't destroy this car. Keep it original.
He's not sending it to the crusher, relax.
Keep the mouse motor and do hop up parts with Holley and Rock. Auto as sponsors, betcha this is numbers matching and do the swap in that turd newer camaro....
@@rsprockets7846 LSFest is sponsored by Holley. Pretty sure they want cars with LS engines. Also why would go to the effort on a 327?
@@Hotlog69 YET
Blasphemy! To convert this car into a “burn out” car is beyond foolish. That car is loaded with rare options for that era. Spend the money on a restoration rather than destroy the collector value which is considerable. Put the LS in the new generation car and take it to the “burn out” and preserve the ‘67. You will be glad that you did!
What he's doing is what I'd expect from Cleetus. Just a stupid move on JR's part.
JR is not known for rational thought.
JR this guy is so right listen to him!! If you don't you're dumb take some other car and put an LS in that piece of s*** not in a classic Camaro?
Rare options that the general collector doesn't care about. Options people do care about? 396s, manuals, z28s and COPOs.
This car isn't anything special or "rare".
Pity you are not restoring it. It's a beautiful car. This could be a lesson in how to take $6500 and destroy a fortune
Usually everything you do is great on this channel, but LS swapping a numbers matching car to make it a burnout car is nuts.
I wanted to see that engine get rebuilt so bad. Was REALLY hoping for a restoration on this one.
With the mileage it may not even need rebuilt just refreshed.
@@Cartier_specialist Either way, I am REALLY hoping that he doesn't actually yank it out and get rid of it.

it's a shame but yeah, it'll get LS swapped. really sad, not sure i can even watch 😭😭

Another YT channel has bought a scruffy '59 Dodge Coronet with quirky transmission, got it running great for practically no money and got great content.
It would be a whole helluva lot cheaper to do a rebuild (if it even needs it) on the existing mill than to do a LS swap. Put that money into maybe upgrading the brakes. Have fun in any event!
I would not sell a single thing off of that car that is original. If you don't plan on running with it, then store the extra stuff. But definitely don't part out a number matching car if it is original. That thing looks clean AF and rust free. It would make a fantastic candidate for a full restoration or restomod if not original. There are people out there searching for 1st gens this clean. Amazing car man, please do it justice!
Someone WAS selling it for $8000 and no one bought it. So they sold it to him for less. People always want to complain about getting old cars back on thr road, but no one wants to pony up thr dough to do it. Just sit and tell everyone they're doing it wrong.
It had rusted out floor boards that were replaced and rust in fender wells.
Did you not watch the video? It has rust
@@icepop54367 I know, but thats minimal and he has a replacement quarter for it. They mentioned the floorboards possibly already being replaced as well. But until he can check the frame and trunk he won't know how good/bad it is. I can assure you that for someone looking to restore a 67 Camaro this is considered very little rust. Assuming the frame checks out, this is a good starting point for a restoration.

Dude, don't do anything stupid! If you need to swap the engine, do NOT cut or modify in a way that can't be reversed! I would rather buy it from you than see it's originality destroyed.
Agreed. I'm about to sell my first car. A 1965 Mustang that I've had for 39 years. I will not sell it to anyone that will butcher it.
Breaks my heart to hear you're LS swapping this original 327 car! And for a burn out competition! I know it's your car, but like you said, "Old cars like this are getting hard to find!", and this is why!!! Everyone does LS swaps on everything these days, nothing new there. Keeping it original, numbers matching would be SO much better! Just my opinion.

It's only original once!
Why not put the LS in the 94 instead?
Being an original 67 RS, I'd love to see it restored. Please keep the original engine (take it out, but don't sell it) and restore the rest as original as possible.
@TheMrSnyder I would tend to agree, but it's his car and he wants to LS swap. At least if he keeps it, the next owner can replace it. He mentioned before that he doesn't like carbs either, so even if he did keep it, he'd likely go with EFI, electronic ignition, etc. That being the case, I'd again say to keep the original engine all together, so it can be replaced by the next owner.
I'm just hoping he doesn't add a digital dash, "racing seats", etc.

A reasonable up-grade to an LS in a 1967 Camaro. It's way better than an ordinary 2 barrel 350.
Clean the points. Kids these days you can't take them anywhere.

hidden headlights are powered by engine vaccuum: no engine, no vaccuum.
genuine RS camaros are rarer than a SS or RS/SS because when was the last time you saw one? not lately id bet. especially a factory black. factory black only gets done when maker is doing hearses and gets sprayed at the same time. so rare. you would be better of restoring it a factory numbers car than bastardizing it
67 SS/RS or RS have electric motors to open the doors, 68 and 69 are vacuum
Some options are rare because either they're really special and not too many did them(COPO comes to mind) or nobody wanted them. Either people got a non RS or SS/RS. This RS would be the latter. It's even automatic with a 2bbl carb.

@@dave1135 exactly thats why this one hurts. If i hadnt lost my job from this covid situation id pay 15000 to save this car from this fate. Normally, I don't try and tell another builder (and CZcams creator) what to do with their projects. But in this case I have to join the crowd, this is one you should bring back. You can build the original motor with period correct performance pieces and roast the back tires at will. Keep the original parts stored, and you will get WAY more attention with a warmed over Factory Correct 67 RS than any resto-mod. Save the LS swapped Resto Project for a rolling shell, and do the right thing with this one. Every nut and bold of this car is available still.
This brings back memories. When I was a young child my mom had a 67 Camaro RS/SS with the vinyl roof and the headlight covers. Very rare version of the first gen. That’s what started my love for cars. So happy to see one on the channel.

I used to own a 67 also in HS I graduated in 1982, we used to street race because that was the thing to do back then, needless to say my girlfriend wrecked it and totaled it into a ditch. Now that I’m older I have been looking for one. If you ever decide on selling it please look me up I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. Please do not get rid of the motor, if it’s a matching number motor it’s worth it’s weight in Gold. Please verify if it’s a Z28 because the first year Z28 were disguised as an RS and only 602 Z28’s were made that year. If so it is a Z28 the that car is worth as much as an original Cobra of that era. Once again don’t throw away the motor, just keep it in the garage and sell it with the car. Even thought you have a different motor in the car. You’ll be glad you kept it.

Those headlights are $$$ man Kansas has some cool cars.
There is no way this car will be finished in three weeks....my god the paint alone will take that long. This is a valuable car if restored correctly. Please don't go the juvenile it out. STOCK FACTORY!!!!!
it's a goner... KaBOOM
PussyGalore most videos on CZcams are months behind.
Upon thinking about it, you could go ahead with LS swap and keep the 327 with the car so that it can be restored to original by the next owner if he/she chooses to.
Excited for your JR - this looks like a clean example and will be a really fun project.
RESTORE IT!
Next time on WatchJRGo, "Anyone want a part repaired Volvo C30?".
More like, "Next on Watch JR Go, I had to hire security because I made a stupid decision to LS swap a numbers matching, factory air, rare 1967 Camaro."
Next on watch Jr go, there's a mob outside my door, help!
"While we wait for the new engine, watch us camo-wrap the '67 Camaro to match my Gold Wing"
