For someone who doesn't know the avatar story, this is very interesting. Your reaction will be very genuine without comparing it to the original story. keep watching it, it will get more and more interesting.

my sister has NEVER WATCHED atla before but she is loving the live action. it’s not going to be the same as the original or as good but if you think of it as it’s a different version and it’s own thing without thinking about the original it is promising live action with some work in terms of writing and pacing and visually (green screen backgrounds). but this live action is bringing together more fans. and i love that

a ton of comments have already said this but as a life long fan of ATLA, it is so so refreshing to be able to watch someone who hasn't been exposed to this universe be able to experience the live action without any biases or influences; so many people are comparing it to the cartoon/anime but the live action is an adaptation of it, so of course there are changes to make it more suitable as a short live action series. I think the show is beautiful in its own way- its as magical as the cartoon, but definitely heavier and more mature. A fun fact about the casting that I think you might enjoy is that Gordon (the kid who plays Aang :)!) said for the scenes he has to cry for, he thinks of his dead hamster :(! It shows that they picked the perfect Aang- the entire cast, especially Dallas (Zuko) were definitely meant to be part of this :)). I hope once you finish the series you watch not only the cartoon and spin off (Legend of Korra) but as well as the first live action just to see how expansive the universe is and why some people are so passionate about the series :D
love seeing a reaction from someone who won't be bogged down by counting what's changed and whether each tiny little change is better or worse. Very curious to see what your thoughts are on the series that is made to help usher in new fans to this amazing world
This is what I've been saying.... Most people who are big fans keeps on saying that they will watch it with an open mind. But they end up comparing everything to the original one. This is how it should be reviewed. from someone who haven't watch the original. Remember what she says from the start... She says "he's so young"...... she understands Aang onset ... and she hasn't seen the original....

I'm a huge fan and I'm coming into it with an open mind. I think they ones that don't are just more vocal and garnish more attention so it seems that way. I loved the first episode but I have yet to watch the rest so it might change but I don't mind changes as long as it's good and the essence of the original gets across.
Im an ATLA fan, and as someone who watch the ATLA Live action is is very enjoyable and maybe some parts have been change I really don't mind actually.

I haven't seen or heard anything about Avatar - The last airbender before my wife wanted to show me this serie. I had no pre knowledges of this world.
I LOVED IT! I really looking forward to the next season (I really hope there are more to come).

Just one titbit, the Avatar has a heightened state called the Avatar State where their eyes glow, their bending powers are greatly enhanced and usually they lose a bit of their rationality in that state. Additionally, airbenders have tattoos which they gain when an airbender becomes a master and their tattoos glow too when an airbender avatar is in the avatar state.
It's so refreshing to watch a reaction from someone who hasn't seen the animated series (^_^ ) Those Pikachu might get replaced with Sky Bison Appas.

Ive seen the original series but overall ive given the series a 7 to 8 out of 10.
I know what others fans like myself will know the minor things that sets this adaptation back a little but overall i loved how this series went. For me its specificaly the performance and the costumes that matter as a costume designer myself thats what helps bring the characters to life. The respect from the original source with the additional elements that only belong to that world. So you have the structure of clothing but the colours, fabric and cultural asthetics lets you see how that world throves in both climate and adaptaions through the story

Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of those animated series that changes your life. They teach you another perspective and each of their characters are wonderful, this is what the animated series did with many people. I'm so glad you are reacting to this without having seen it before. I'm only familiar with the first season, but other reactors have already ruined future storylines for me with spoilers so I have had to stop watching them.
I dont know how you can watch this without watching the og show. I agree it will be interesting, but I feel you may no appreciate this the way many will, just because of the nostalgia of the show.

The way the animated series was presented was each season was a book, and each episode was a chapter. The first book was the book of Water. There were three books. I'm assuming season one of the Netflix series is the book of Water, so there should be two more seasons after this.

Watch the original, the live action doesn’t do the story justice at all. The visuals are good though
So there's a little bit of lore that I wanted to share with you Magy. The opening shit, that showed a glowing red object in the sky is VERY important. Every 100 years a comet orbits the Earth and stays in the sky for a couple of days. That comet gives Firebenders a very powerful boost to their abilities. I don't know if every element has a "boost scenario", but for Waterbenders, they are exceptionally powerful at night and even 10 times more so during a full moon. That's why Sozen (the Fire Lord) made that comment about on any other night they might have prevailed. But with the power of the comet he becomes virtually unbeatable. The ONLY bender that could Match his Power is The Avatar.
The other nations do have boosters like the comet is for the fire nation: The Water Tribes get a boost from the full moon, the Earthbenders get a boost from earthquakes but the Airbenders boost comes from meditating and reaching inner peace.
