  • Television can be a wonderful tool or a terrible master, depending on what you are spending your time watching. Regardless though we should all be striving to watch as little TV as is necessary. After all TV only seeks to kill our productivity and concentration. bit.ly/2GNpKxJ

Brian Tracy I stopped watching TV. Didn't buy one for my new place and only now watch stuff when I need on my laptop but rarely. I achieved more, read books about self development and learnt more. Exercised more! I will send this to my friend who judged me for not having TV. thanks for making this video. I don’t watch TV it’s s total waste of time you NEVER get back! I have never owned or bought a TV in my entire lifetime. No TV in my home. Source of noise, negative energy and ads. It’s better to be a producer than a consumer. Create don’t spectate.

I never understood the concept to "binge" a show. Watching 5-7 hours of TV during the day would get really boring. I recently decided I needed a hobby that didn't involve a screen, so I bought an electric keyboard and I've been teaching myself how to play the piano.

That leaves us with 62 hours. The difference between minority successful people and majority people is what they do in that 62 hours.

Jake Lee you do know spending a great deal of time watching CZcams and other social media sites counts as watching too much te[l]-e-vision. They too can be a wonderful tool or a terrible master.
Research shows that frequent use of social media is associated with: Anxiety, Stress, Emotional Exhaustion, Depression, and Loneliness.
I’ve been searching through CZcams for a good old home cooked apple pie recipe. I have no idea why my search brought me to Brian Tracy’s CZcams channel. 🤔

I don't not watch TV (CZcams etc.), or listen to mainstream radio (music included) because of the time it takes away, but rather because of the 'subconscious programming' it is capable of. For a long time now, if I do consume any media, I select the programs/videos very carefully and make sure that the content is positive/affirmative and is 'growth oriented.' For example, I will watch 'personal development' type of programs, motivational programs, programs on spiritual growth etc. and take notes while I do so, and pretty much avoid everything else. Unless it will help me to grow mentally/physically/spiritually, etc. I will avoid it like the plague. It is far better to read.
I even deleted my entire library of music which was composed of some 50,000 songs or so and began to rebuild with new 'positive' music which almost always is non-mainstream. Definitely no more (or very, very, little) Hip Hop music. Such is the extent I have gone to to 'reinvent' myself. It definitely it is difficult when as soon as you step outside your house you are immediately bombarded with all types of garbage but it is imperative to cut it all out.
I hope eventually to buy/own a self-sustaining/self-sufficient acreage away from the city where the impact of 'the masses' will be less felt. Would definitely love to homeschool my future children if possible and keep them as far away from 'society' conditioning/programming as possible.

We got married in 2004, and had cable TV in that first year. We bought our house in 2005, didn't get cable in the beginning, and still don't have it. We watch something on Netflix maybe once a week. We like to go for a long walk at the huge natural environment park Calgary has. We go out, we do something that gets us out, gets us talking, or on our own, we like to read.
We don’t miss TV. Not even a bit.

Great video! Back in the 70’s I read Jerry Mander’s book “Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television.” Although I did not agree with all of his ideas, our family went for a number of years without a TV! My two sons, now in their 40’s, still do not own televisions, although they do use the internet. They also engage in an ancient art called “reading.”
They call it the “Boob Tube” because if you watch it enough you will become a boob!

Excellent advice. Sitting for long periods is certainly bad for our health. When you say 'diabetes' I assume you are referring to Type 2 Diabetes and not Type 1. Board games are great fun for children and adults and encourage interaction in a way that television does not. Watching news programmes about terrible situations over which we have no control causes anxiety.

For me the big difference after cutting out most of the television (read: streaming movies and shows) watching I used to do over the past year has been a major improvement in my sleep habits. Whereas I used to get 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night I now get 8 or 9. I also have time for daily meditation, running, and reading before bed. My mind is clearer and I am gradually replacing compulsive, unproductive habits with intentional, goal oriented habits.

same with youtube, netflix, hulu, facebook, etc. however, watching movies and documentaries or seminars, etc. with others and then discussing what you watch can definitely be productive and develop your relationships. also if you plan to create media for the benefit of others, it is profitable to a certain extent to consume such media yourself. and of course, as Brian says, it is okay to relieve tension with these things now and then, but there are alternatives that are healthier, so TV/video watching shouldn't be one's only pastime by any means. in the end, any activity is only as useful as you make it. two people can watch the same film about, say, the plight of an orphan growing up. one person might walk away from it satisfied, if it was a good film, perhaps merely considering it another notch under their belt, another good, powerful film experience. another person might watch this same film and feel inspired to pursue a career in social work, or feel motivated to volunteer to help kids in some way, or decide to reach out to a fatherless child in their personal life to encourage them somehow. so on and so on and so on. TV doesn't rot your brain, the decision to simply 'tune out' and go for a pleasure ride every time you sit and watch TV, over time, certainly does.

I've put off watching this video because I knew it is what I needed lol. I used to do
creative things all the time sew, craft, make hairbows. Now all I do is watch t.v. like 8-10hrs a day depending on if I work that day. I know it's not even funny but I'm telling my bad habit because someone may have some good tips on cutting my tv obsession.

Fact...20 minutes of TV puts you in a dissociative state...20 minutes of exercise puts you in a better state of health...I'm choosing a healthy mind, body, and spirit way before I ever stare at a box again...what goes in your eye gate matters...just say no to TV...you'll be just fine...and do the same for social media...

I often refer to Television as a "baby sitter for the brain" sometimes wee need that little bit of r&r - most of the time TV is certainly just engaging in other peoples indulgences (producers/actors/fans) instead of focussing one's own talents and life progress.

I quit binge watching Tv shows and movies and instead have been reading the last 3 months . And times when i try to watch movies or shows I once enjoyed i see how super inappropriate and dramatic these shows have been made by directors not the actors which i respect . I still have screen time but watch things like CZcams travel Vlogs , a online class on things like Coursera , or better yet hear a podcast .
