    Glad that all seems fixed. We too have a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the Jeep fix installed. We also had the dealer install a charging line from the motorhome to charge the battery. Even with that, we had an occasional dead battery in the Jeep. We eventually chased the problem down. If everything started out nearly fully charged, we had no problems. If the Jeep’s battery was just a little bit low before hooking up to the motorhome, it did not work. The dealer’s solution was a direct connection through a diode to the Jeep battery from the motorhome through the 7 pin connector. In this case, the current drawn through the cable exceeded the fuse capacity and would blow the fuse. Of course we never knew this when it happened, so the Jeep battery would fairly quickly drain. We installed an RVI Towed Battery charger and have not had the problem since. It seems to be able to charge at a high enough rate to maintain the battery, but limits the current to a point that we do not blow the fuse.

    My husband and I just recently experienced this in our 2018 Ford f350,we went through a bumpy section on the interstate and it felt like the front end was going to fall apart !! Its a good thing we were not towing our rig that day .Thank you for all your valuable information, safe travels !!

    I am glad you have gotten a resolution to your death wobble. After your video, I realized my Roadmaster tow bar is also quite loose and called them. I can order the rebuild kit to tighten it back again.
    We towed our 2016 Cherokee over 10000 miles before experiencing the death wobble on severe frost heaves on the Alcan. We had the Jeep harness installed in the Jeep in Alaska. We already had the charge line thru the center pin hooked up.
    As per info in the IRV2 forums, I later moved the harness power source from the power distribution box in the Jeep to the charge line from the RV. This way the steering fix is activated when the ignition of the RV is turned on. It is quite a bit more convenient than pulling the fuse. I also added a large LED strip to the load side of the Jeep added fuse. I then place the portable LED strip on the dash and can view it from my rear view cam and ensure there is still 12 volts going to the steering unit. It is piece of mind to know the steering fix is active, as having had the death wobble, I never wish to experience it again. We were lucky that we were going fairy slowly and there was no traffic and having read about it, I recognized it quickly and stopped immediately.
    Safe and happy travels.

      Excellent solution Tom. Thank you for sharing for the benefit of others. Sorry to hear that you experienced it, but impressed by the solution you put in place. Would be great to not need to do the fuse, and great to have confirmation of power with the LED light.

    Guys, thanks for the update! You mentioned that the 2019 Cherokee doesn't experience the death wobble. Does it still need the supplemental battery charge lwire from the motorhome? I have a 2019 model with a newly installed ready brake.(fully mechanical) supplemental brake system, but I have not towed with it yet. My electrical cable does not have the trickle charge conductor to feed the battery, so I'm wondering if this will become a problem.

    • @Rvlove
      @Rvlove  Před 4 lety +1

      With a fully mechanical supplemental brake system, and without the wiring harness to keep the steering active, there should be very little draw on the battery. Only the brake lights or running lights if driving at night. With that in mind, I would expect that you will be fine, without additional charging.especially if you mostly drive in the day. That is of course, unless there is some other electronic draw I am not aware of in the new Jeep when towing.

    I was aware of the "death Wobble" problem with the Jeep and I believe also with some Ram trucks. When we was looking at a new Jeep Grand Cherokee limited I asked the dealer about it. He said the issue was corrected after the 2018 models of Jeep. I was told by a Blue Ox dealer that we should have ours inspected yearly and overhauled every two.

    • @Rvlove
      @Rvlove  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Roy. Yes, we have heard that some Ford trucks also experience it (mostly F350). Good that you also heard Jeep fixed after 2018 models. Hopefully the video will remind folks about getting their tow equipment inspected and serviced.

    Question : We recently picked up our Grand Cherokee after the wiring harness was installed to end our Wobble issue. I would like to know how you were instructed to activate the upgrade. We are still experiencing low battery issues with ours. We were told to turn the toggle switch off after unhooking our Jeep. We were not told to pull the fuse however. Others have said that we need to also pull the fuse. ?

    • @Rvlove

      Yes, we need to pull the fuse after turning it off. Hope that helps you avoid more battery issues. -M

    Hey Mark and Julie. Good to see you putting out more CZcams content again. I really really look forward to your travelogues as well. I will be glad to see them coming again. On your death wobble, i would think that Chrysler would not want to have their name besmirched by something as catastrophic sounding as death wobble. Jeep is their best selling of all their models and I would think they would like to get every Cherokee taken care of before their name gets dragged through the mud. At least i hope you have had your problem resolved, never to raise its ugly head again. Happy travels!!

    • @Rvlove
      @Rvlove  Před 4 lety

      Hi Carl, Thank you. Glad to be able to put out more content these days. Jeep was surprisingly reluctant to cover the fix under warranty. I guess they figure the number of folks that tow them is small by comparison. Very confident that we the updates shared in this video and related blog post at www.rvlove.com/deathwobblefix we will not have it return.

      Hi Vin. Thank you. You don't have to go to Roadmaster to have it inspected. Many big rallys have Roadmaster reps that can inspect too. We have heard from many folks with other vehicles have had wobbles, including some Chevy's. So... hope you didn't jinx yourself. :)

    @1129beck Před 3 lety +1

    We just bought a 2016 Jeep trail hawk with that towing package. Pardon my ignorance, but when you say you are having the dealer install the system, do you mean the Jeep Dealer or some RV dealer, of the tow package dealer? Who do we have install this system and do we buy all of the components from that dealer? Thank you

    • @Rvlove
      @Rvlove  Před 3 lety

      Towing equipment is usually installed by an RV dealership or other shop that sells it. But... the Jeep specific wiring harness for a 2016 Jeep is definitely only to be done by a certified Jeep dealership, because it requires wiring into the main wiring harness. I would not want to have that done by anybody who doesn't know what they are doing, or who wouldn't be able to replace the main harness if something went wrong. -M

  • @williamdrake8551

    Went to my local Jeep dealer to get the after market part installed on my 2018 Trailhawk. $132 for the part, 4 hours labor @ $160 per hour......$780 after tax. That’s a big expense for a vehicle that should be flat tow ready from the factory and so much more than the $500 you were able to get it done for .

    • @Rvlove
      @Rvlove  Před 3 lety

      Sorry to hear it cost you more. Agreed that Jeep should not be charging us all to live up to the original expectation that the vehicle is flat tow ready. Newer models have fixed it and truly are flat towable without the mods. -M

      First make sure your Cherokee is properly equipped to be able to be towed. Not all are. All of the mods needed to tow four down will cost many thousands of dollars, but these Jeep specific mods were less than $1,000 total. More information on our blog at
