  • In the wee hours of Sunday June 26th, 2016, myself and a good friend of mine had the privilege of riding the last ever westbound Line 194 bus to be operated by Metro. 2016 New Flyer XN40 #4044 was the last ever Line 194 westbound bus (coincidentally, this bus was also the last ever Line 190 bus in both directions earlier that evening), while 2016 New Flyer XN40 #4066 was the last ever Line 194 eastbound bus and the last Metro bus on this line to pull in back to the yard. Halfway along the route, both buses met up in La Puente providing for a fantastic moment in Los Angeles transit history to be captured on camera. I got that historic moment and the ride on video for your enjoyment!
    About 3-4 hours after this video was taken, Foothill Transit took over operations on Lines 190 and 194, ending decades of SCRTD and LACMTA bus service into the eastern San Gabriel Valley. To read up a little more on the history of these lines and transit in the San Gabriel Valley in general, check out this article written by the brilliant Los Angeles transit historian and author , Charles P. Line: 194 west to El Monte Station via Valley Boulevard
    Engine: Cummins Westport ISL-G 280hp
    Transmission: Allison Gen V B400R6

    These should have been Gillig

      Gillig never even bid for this contract. They never go after large contracts like the Metro order simply because they don't have the manufacturing capacity and it would put them behind in their existing orders if they did take on such large orders. Besides, I'm not too enthusiastic about the newer generation of Gilligs compared to the XN40 after having rode 4 different sets of Gilligs from Santa Monica, Long Beach, Riverside, and Norwalk. They don't have the same superior ride quality as the Metro XN40s do.

      lucian400 Actually, LA Metro wanted Gillig buses but they asked Gillig too early/late as they are currently moving operations unfortunately. The Low Floor is known to be better than Xcelsior.

    Kinda wish Foothill Transit would leave the El Monte to Indian Hill and Holt since 482 Ends at Transcenter in Pomona and if you want to go east Holt Ave from Pomona Transcenter must switch company and buses kinda stinks.

    Metro Can not buy newer buses because their currently still retanking there c40lfs from their fleet. They couldn't have more life and stay in service for a few more years.

      @lucian400  Před 7 lety +1

      It's not that they can't buy new buses because of that, it's more like they want to retank rather than buy new buses. That being said, they've ordered a few New Flyer electric artic buses for the Orange Line and they're also about to order a few BYD electric artic buses as well.

    Wow sorta sounds like an L10G from 1:01 to 1:14 for a sec we listen closely enough. Well at least it almost did IMO

    I don't know who's idea was to do this. Foothill is never on time or never show up, poor maintenance, bus drivers lack of customer support, and drivers can be rude most of the time. I'm 4 years late but I still hate this change and want Metro to come back or I won't ride transit anymore.

    Sorry but 194 just not the same as Old MTA 484 honestly better service with 484 and it covered more area. Just me or did foothill transit kinda jiped us ? I mean 482 no longer goes to Indian hill Blvd and Holt from my Dr to Walgreens pharmacy I have to ride 61 Omni but I only have a tap card for Los Angeles county not valid on the Omni
