I think most Muslims can deduce that actively ending a human being's life is not permitted- but it's important to stress that mercy killing or euthanasia is haram regardless or what kind of being it is. I was pressured by the veteranian to agree to put my old suffering cat to sleep (death) and although I was against that all my life, I gave in and let her inject the cat with a chemical tbat would end her suffering and I paid for it. The Quran says all animals will turn to dust, only humans will live in the afterlife. Animals don't have the same sanctity and the same soul as a human, so really it makes no sense to prohibit euthanasia for animals. I can see how it is perceived as murder in a human being, but since Islam permits killing animals for food, then it should be logical to kill an animal for any other good reason. Not for fun, sport or torture, this is Haram. The only good reasons being to end their suffering or to sustain the life of a human by eating its flesh, if it is Halal animal. In other words, please don't feel guilty. You gave your beloved pet a good death and you did not commit any sin. I was a hospitalist for many years and took care of patients who were in the end-stages of certain conditions (e.g. Alzheimer's, cancer, respiratory failure, AIDS, etc.). Their families would make the decision for them to be terminally weaned from mechanical ventilation, palliative care, or DNR. Da’wah is a binding duty on all Muslims . I understand that euthonasia is haram, however, there are rare cases, when patients are suffering too much, and the death is inevitable. If It’s very painful to live. In that case euthanasia seems like a mercy. Example, a jealous ex-girlfriend poured sulphuric acid on her ex-boyfriend. He suffered immense burns. Lost eyes, organs, he can eat and breathe through a tube in his throat. Bedridden. 24/7 life support. Feces and urine come out uncontrollably. Bones are getting eaten by acid over time. He loses his legs. After 15 months of this terrible hell-like pain, he applies for euthanasia and gets an approval. In such cases euthanasia seems like a savior from suffering. There is no dignified life in that state or hellish pain. I think for such cases, Muslim scholars should be more understanding, and not just say it’s “haram”.

First people who deserve to be butchers should not be allowed to be doctors and others who may shine as prostitutes should not be misemployed as nurses, a profession which calls for true dediction and compassion. I have observed directly that such institutions, despite having some short-comings in observing Islamic values, are functioning far far better in non-Muslim countries enforcing strict accountability. In the context of Malaysia, even royal family members are choosing to have themselves treated in non-Muslim countries with those efficient facilities ! Can we blame them for being privately wise ?

Why do people care so much about Zakir Naik even though he has so many weak arguments? Who the heck uses the old testament to criticize what Christians believe?
