My last sentence refers to a fictional army that would have been assembled by known nations of Norsemen, AFTER the Great Heathen Army, and therefore rival and likely surpass it. The Great Heathen Army only had 3 Norse nations, mostly Danes, but also Vikings from Norway and Sweden. It was a Three Nation Army at it's peak. There was a brief period of time where Seven Nations of Norse existed. Normans eventually assimilated into French culture, adopted a French language, and lost much of it's Viking origins. The Varangians were also assimilated, into the Slav culture, and they too adopted a Slavic language and lost much of their Viking origins.
