That voice is made for Bossa.
OMG yes. All the Jobim tunes she does are wonderfully sung
True and not bad on the other standards as well, not to mention she plays lead alto sax on another video and now trumpet! What a versatile talent.

That's what i was going to say! aha
Special thumbs up to the recording engineers, capturing such a fine balance in this space.
I second that!!!
@@philflorine5894 3rd it. guitar blend is perfect!
exactly !!!! what recording engineers, so amazing work !!!
Thanks, your comment shows an aspect of music in which I'm not used to pay attention to.
Indeed. I have learned that whenever there's "Grabación: David Casamitjana" in the credits, it means "it couldn't be better".
I don't know how I got here but I'm glad I did.
I never get tired of listening to Sweet Alba! She is charming! 😘🇧🇷
Everyone is getting recommended this Mid November 2020 congrats!
We are the chosen ones
Haha true
Yeah! I’ve been looking for great jazz like this months ago and now this shows up! 😄
Chosen in more ways than one.
@@gavinokun96 warning you will become addicted to these musicians and go down the rabbit hole I know I have
How do you keep the best of culture alive and well? Teach the young people about it and they will continue to nurture it and make it thrive and grow. There aren't enough words of praise for Joan Chamorro and this program. Bravo!
& also hope that another generation of art & culture is not lost to military dictatorship.
would you include Cuba and Venezuela?
Agreed
Thank you all for saying it so well.
So true
This is what music is all about. Thank you. (A tuba player from California)
This is why I appreciate Ms Alba so much. She comes out of a vocal and perfectly plays her trumpet solo right on the beat. Or comes out of a trumpet solo and nails the vocal! Amazing talent! Everyone is great playing this great Tom Jobim song!
She never disappoints.
Guy playing the bass is living his best life
that's the critic from ratatoullie
Bassist is Joan Chamarro. He initiated the whole project 😎
Teaching young kids to play incredible jazz music, I'll say he is.
Eterna Brazilian Bossa Nova
the best thing about all these videos, is that you can go back and watch the older ones and turn the clock back and see how much all these musicians have grown!! They were literally little kids in the early videos.
Joan I discovered your site during Covid and i'm still blown away by your young musicians and how wonderfully you have developed their individual talents and have them playing and loving Jazz/Swing.
I never tire of watching your videos. Keep up the great work !
I listen to this almost daily just can’t get enough of all of them. The vocal and solos make you realize how accomplished they really are. The tenor is unbelievably great.
Me too, nealy every day. Love all their work but this recording has something extra special - it's so calming to listen to and watch, seeing the way they all look so comfortable with what they are doing and the beautiful and controlled sounds that are coming across. Alba is the focus for it with her understated but beautiful voice and trumpet playing, but put together with all the other superb playing, I find this one of the best musical experiences on you tube.
Genius Joan Chamorro has assembled some of the finest Jazz performers ever. Never fails to amaze.
and like Alba, they all sing, play 3 instruments too Perfect! Does he teach them all? or Some good groups get together? Unbelievable !!
I listen to Astrid Gilberto’s version of this all the time and have all my life. Alba absolutely nailed this!!
🙌 👏 PERFECTION ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Joan Chamorro should receive the Nobel Peace Prize. This is the closest thing to real peace that I've observed all year.
Haha! Brilliant Jacek. Post of the day!
Thank you, Jack
Thank you young lady. I love this song and the singer. September, 2023.
Best Jazz Vocalist today? I think so! Nice Horn Solo! Thanks So Much!
For english: Thanks Joan! Your teaching has left the world so much better place!! X10 ! This young singer she will be the best Jazz singer as a young Astrud Gilbito ? I think YES!! Congratulations! She and so many other thank you Joan for you and for your teaching younger gen We love
This is among the best music I've ever heard.
Oh yes! Me too. Bossa Nova is fine, elegant, profound. Ethernal.
Alba, she sings from the ❤.I myself studied music, Piano, and TPR,and she and her sister, are the best, keep up the good work,😮
Love how Scott Hamilton’s eyes are closed through the whole song. Such a delight to listen to as always.
Alba has a knack for holding a note, with perfect pitch, for a tenth of a second longer then expected. It is a key part of her smooth and rhythmic style that seduces the listener. I praise her!
OMG! Love this! Art, pure art!!!
im living out the last months of my life with stage 5 kidney failure.im in the USA and i love the classic sound of your music. how you lead these young musicians i dont understand but its spectacular! you are Brilliant! i am Art in W. Tennessee of the USA.
God willing ill see you in heaven brother where theres gonna be everlasting sounds of the divine.
@@ian9894 thank you kindly.
Hope you find a donor. Dialysis is hard work
May the Lord bless you and your family, sir!
@@oiante thank you!
I would not have feared growing old if I knew that Joan Chamorro and his team of geniuses would be entertaining me in 2021
Let's fight becoming old with limited fork and spoon! One life to live on this earth. Don't fade away, whatever it takes. Eat right, exercise, get good rest. Life is too short, make the most of it regardless. Bad health? To better than you think you can. Remember, there's one life here on earth, enjoy it, no backing down. I'm 63, about like my independent living 100 y/o male second cousin, we don't fight becoming old, we live. Who cares if the 20y/o gals turn their noses up at us until they see our bank acct; we'll I do, but can ya blame'em?
@@jeffreycraven8154 Good words, Jeffrey. I am (so far) a sprightly 70, and I walk every day.
I live for my reading and music. Growing up in the age of rock, I only ever liked jazz and classical.
Wonderful that we can watch Bill Evans thanks to CZcams, and of course the great Joan Chamorro and his school of talents.
Takes me back to my college days where there were talented musicians of all ages learning and playing together.
Alba is amazing.
Sings with a voice that would break your heart then plays a dreamy solo on the trumpet.
Maravilhoso.
That singer/trumpet player Alba is brilliant and they all know it..... A Star in the Making......
I still think this is one of the best songs (and best sung by Alba) of your repetoire.
In Austin Texas eating a late lunch at 5:45 p.m. This song made my day!. Can't wait to get home and hear it again. I play trumpet, so I'm partial to the brass, but everyone sounded so good. The combined sound of everyone was a joy to listen to.
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down?
I really enjoyed that.
I'm not a musician and don't know much about bossa nova or jazz, but I am a big fan of music and just love Joan Mar Sauqué's solo. His tone and feel for the melody and lyrics of the song is quite remarkable. I find myself coming back to this recording quite a bit. Such great performances by all involved.
Yes, smooth as silk.
AND SHE PLAYS THE TRUMPET WOW
Wonderful singing with such emotion. The players are also so good. Thank you ,I really enjoyed this music.
I Just Love when Alba sings in portuguese 💕💕
O Brasil não sabe o quão bossa nova é gigante.
Alba, the band, the perfection, brings tears to my eyes 1000 times
As of my present vote, this is the best version of this song from SAJB EVER!!!
Listen to Jan Domenech!! - he's behind anything that goes in this fabulous video - behind the marvellous and very personal voice of Alba, her fine trumpet play, and behind the incredible solos of Alba Esteban, Scott and Joan Mar...
Carla is barely audible at times but unmissible through the song...
LOVE IT!!!!
Yup, love that piano. Jan Domenech plays a beautiful and minimalist solo on another of Alba's songs in this series. Look for the song Shiny Stockings.
Carla is like Freddie Green playing with Basie. You don't hear what the guitar is adding but the band looses something when she stops or is not playing!
@@alanlevin167 I love her most when she leaves Freddie and picks these latin chords and rhythms, like here!
Joan Mar Saugue and bot Albas (Armengou and Esteban) so good and so young. Can't wait to hear them 10 years from now. What a priviledge playing along with SCOTT HAMILTON.
the bari sax solo !!!!! 😩😩👌👌
ikr.. so good
Jazz & Bossa Nova perfectly blended, what more can you ask for. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 from 🇺🇸
I do not understand the words, but it does not matter. They are all a joy to listen to.
Just close your eyes and listen with your soul...thats enough my friend, thats enough.
I was going to write the same thing.
Music doesn’t have a language my friend. That’s the best part!
@@kaydenbryant3774 music IS a language
Who believed
In love, in the smile, in the flower
Thus dreamed, dreamed
And lost peace
Love, the smile, and the flower
They transformed too quickly
Who, in the heart
Sheltered the sadness of seeing all of this lose itself
And, in loneliness
Sought a road and followed it,
Already faithless in a happy day
Who cried, cried
And cried to the point that all of their tears dried up
Who returned afterwards
To love, to the smile and to the flower
Thus found everything
And the selfsame suffering
Revealed the road of love
And the sadness ended
That's the most accurate version I found
Alba is so talented
Why people thumbs down this vid is beyond me. A gorgeous set. Thank you for the soothing bossa nova.
Beautiful solos and Alba’s singing is so captivating like in ‘Triste’! 😍thanks for sharing this sweet music 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
1.2million hits and yet this is the music that the BBC ignores despite having about five music channels.
It has been my view for some years that if young people are actually exposed to popular music with a strong melodic line played on a variety of instruments ( not just electric guitars and drums ) and with intelligent lyrics, music that appeals to our higher sentiments, they will pick it up and run with it and Joan Charmorrow is proving me right - thank you Joan.
No that electric guitar can’t be interesting but I get your point. I consider myself very lucky, as a young man, to have been exposed to jazz as a boy. My mother used to bring me to the montreal jazz festival.
Later in life, I discovered Bossa in music school and even sang one of my final exams in broken portugaise. What fun times!
Alba is Heaven sent. She has such a love for the music and the craft. I could listen to her all day.
This is one of the best things I've ever seen/ heard.... that singer/ trumpeter is truly special
Wonderful group of musicians. Alba's voice is exquisite.
Im brasilian, from Rio de Janeiro, Ipanema! This girl is the best in Bossa Nova! God save your voice! Blessed for TOM JOBIM, I do!
Joan Chamorro for Nobel Peace Prize. Amazing work to bring up the talent of these young musicians.
By selflessly mentoring not just one, but batches and batches of kids, Senor Chamorro has created a musical renaissance and a hope for this chaotic, noisy world.
Absolutely agree. He has done more for peace than all the politicians since WW2.
Beautiful and so TALENTED .!!!!
And VERY VERY ROMANTIC
Viva BOSSA NOVA . Brazilian Music
sometimes it's wonderful to hear something that's floating not exploding. Love it
It's been exactly a month since I first discovered Andrea Motis on CZcams, and couldn't believe my eyes and ears at her amazing talents. That led me to Rita, Eva, and Magali (together and on their own), and the "new" generation with Alba, Carla Motis, Joana Cassanova, and others. I've been a jazz fan all my life, and now I've been trying to learn everything I can about these superb young musicians and singers, keeping the art form alive. Bravo, Joan Chamorro, for finding them and recognizing their talents, which you've nurtured to produce world-class artists.
My feelings exactly. Such an amazing array of talent. Well done to Loan Chamorro and his crew in nurturing all this talent.
Yes, they are all super talented and keeping jazz alive and through CZcams they are reaching people like me in England who would never have heard of them any other way, I am so glad I have, they are amazing
Sung with so much passion. Simply lovely.
I love all the different languages in the comments. We're one species
Gets me every time. (I love Alba's voice sooo much). This is just a magical combo. All the right people in that room at just the right moment. Magical.
Wow. Her voice makes every word of the song drip like honey. 🔥
hi from Korea, I searched for Chet baker and I found it!! I dig this vids soooooo much. plz keep beautiful working in 2021🤩
Absolutely 💯 % top shelve ... Oh! so soothing ... cool ... calm and collective ❤❤🤌

This is the most positive comment I've ever read!
Its been a while since ive read "100%", missing Mzansi fo'sho.
Also the Music is top class, gotta give it to the Brazilians and the Portuguese,
they know how to do smooth jazz,
this song is the reason why i'm learning brazillian portuguese
Parabéns! Nosso idioma é muito bonito mesmo!
learning brasilian portuguese is like opening the door into their wonderful culture, i wish you the best on your journey
I think I just saw the most beautiful girl of my life
yeah
She was in my school (@_@)
Do you want to know how good this is?
Just look at the reactions by the other musicians...
Beautiful singing.......beautiful trumpet, beautiful sound, great band.
I love Alba's baritone solos.
Very impessed
Alba Armengou, Queen of Bpssa Nova. What a voice.
Alba captivates while channeling the spirit of the 1930's and 40's.. Absolutely Amazing.! Saw Scott at the Jazz Showcase is Chicago. Great player!
Hats off to the lovely and talented vocalist!
I could listen to Alba all day. Perfect pitch and phrasing. A pure delight. ❤️
I love that kind of music, these guys continue the Jazz Samba/Bossa Nova music of Stan Getz/Joao & Astrud Gilberto - Thank you so much for that wonderful music!
This is the greatest group of musicians outside of the USA.
The baritone and tenor saxes enhance the music.
Scott's solo is something else. A pure joy! He is definitely a big master of his instrument.
Greetings from Russia!
ONLY BRASIL CAN PRODUCE SUCH SUPERB SOUNDS AS THESE. WONDERFUL.
Bravo maestro!!
Great Tenor by Scott
so soulful.
Simply amazing! Just purchased the mp3. Alba's voice is incredible!
Something tells me that Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan would love these kids.
Maybe Getz as well?
@@billdutnall5311 Getz would probably pick up the lady, even if she already has a BF...
Something tells me you are absolutely right!
Hats off to Gerry - I was listening to Night Lights only recently...and of course Chet is, well, Chet 🙏
@@nickm8494 night lights is an extraordinary album.
They are all amazing.
As if this wasn't gorgeous enough, master storyteller Mr Hamilton comes and drips sweet cream on top of the whole thing. So obvious they love bossa as deeply as I do. It just doesn't get any better. Alba being an angel on earth as always, breaking hearts and floating away
Scott Hamilton’s face when Alba sings! He is really amazed!
I am always taken by the tone Alba Estaban consistently gets out of her baritone sax. I've listened to the legends for decades and don't recall anyone who achieved such purity of tone. Just amazing.
wow ... I've always hated how Portuguese sounded like ... but now... I think I'm in love ... Absolutely beautiful.
I watched your documentary Joan, you are really an apostle of jazz and doing a very good job with the young people.
Amber, i concur. The documentary is fantastic. Thank you Joan to do all this!
I've watched these guys on youtube for a while. Can you point me in the direction of the documentary?
@Kris Bart I watched it on CZcams , It's entitled St. Andreau Jazz Band A Film About Kids And Music.
Is it subtitled in english?
@@cshark7777 yes.
my new favorite singer, and her trumpet playing is stellar. I applaud you Joan for nurturing these incredible musicians. I am addicted to your channel!!
If anyone could do it, it would be Joan! His coaching/mentor Alba is coming close to a young Astrud Gilberto ? ? She is heart and soul ! No nonsense! Love That!
Love,Love, Love, Love That Baritone Saxophone Solo And The Tenor Saxophone Solo Too! All of these Musicians Are Great! Greetings From Chicago, IL USA! :)
that lady does nothing but with almost nothing she is so elegant, almost irresistible! incredible! congrats!
Alba Armengou is simply one of the best singers out there, especially in this repertoire. Lovely solo by Joan Mar Sauqué on the muted trumpet! Chamorro's facial expression says it all. I don't know if the quote from the old song "Whispering" was intended, but what a delightful surprise....
Chamorro está de parabéns...
Monta grupos sensacionais!
Excelente Alba!!
Grupo de primeira!!!👍👍👏👏👏👏
Mr. Chamorro, you present us so many talented musicians! We can see you enjoy every moment. So do I. And that Brazilian music is fantastic 👍🎶
Brilliant Voice so lively with all the tonal balance and depth.. just a great voice
I guess this is what it feels like to be inside a cloud just as the sun rises and begins to warm your skin. I would love to play in a band like this.
Excellence everywhere...nearly two million views so far. In my next life, I want to be enrolled in the Chamorro group at age 7 or so.
