I love how clearly the movie was able to show how Henry is so inspired by Alex. He even adopts some of his language. After the Paris sex scene, when Alex is telling Henry about what it means to him to have the opportunity he has and he talks about having a "meaningful impact on people's lives" and then later when Henry is talking to Bea after he "breaks things off" with Alex, he talks to her about how he wonders whether the monarchy has any "meaningful impact on people's lives". I think he initially sees his position as more of a burden due to stress it causes him with his identity, but seeing Alex start from nothing and take advantage of every opportunity he has to try and make the lives of *other* people better inspires Henry to want to do the same. And I think he realizes in the end that his position within the Monarchy isn't enough, which is why he branches off to do his own philanthropic work.
Yes I love all that they learn and take from each other. It’s just so perfect and I think is something important that happens in beautiful relationships like theirs. They strengthen each other

I absolutely LOVE this rewatch LOL. For Miguel I know that everyone says he's a Rafael and Liam mix, but also there was a journalist character who was trying to dig for dirt on Alex and Henry from June in the Book so I more equate him for a mix of that character with Richard's Campaign manager.
Let's not call Miguel a mix of Luna and Liam characters, those were good people, not backstabbing bitches 😑 ok, Luna pretended to be one, but for a noble cause 🥲🙂

I've started to read the book, I'm on chapter seven, right after the polo match. The movie is quite faithful to the book, only the characters that are not there but that do not change the essence of the story. I also can't get rid of the image of Nicholas and Taylor when you read their emails, or the times they are together. They really are the Alex and Henry of our lives

One thing that I’ve been intrigued and enthralled by is that while Taylor and Nicholas are very different in physique, every reaction and comment I’ve watched put them on the same (high) level in attractiveness, both physical and emotional. That’s a match made in heaven IMO and I’m sure it’s a key ingredient to the movie’s success.
I continue to learn new information relating to things in the story, after I encounter an explanation or actually go look up. The latter was originally pale yellow but later got painted red. The director, Matthew Lopez, deliberately changed Alex putting Henry's ring on his necklace to an exchange of each, so that the ring could be seen subsequently on Alex's finger, so he could be fiddling with it waiting to speak to the king. After the emails are hacked, they take Henry's laptop and phone, along with Bea's. Some speculate it was due to them wanting to prevent any further hacking, if that was the source. (And the lack of communication between the White House and the Palace, I think was merely a plot device.) Speaking of plot devices, I think Miguel was a brilliant way to move the story along with minimum clutter. In the coffee shop, his flirting with Alex lets us know that Alex is not totally straight. He hacks the Texas memo and then releases news about the new strategy, which gets President Uma to read the memo and so Alex winds up implementing it - thus saving the reelection effort. And of course his hacking of the emails leads to the story's climax. (In retrospect, despite Miguel's intentions, both hackings eventually leads to positive outcomes.) For those not familiar with American politics, Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow are both real reporters on MSNBC, with the same newsroom look as on their shows. (Rachel identifies as a lesbian and is beloved in the queer community.) I understand the British newscaster is also a real media person. Half the first-time reactors recognize the king is being played by Stephan Fry, a beloved icon in the gay community. (The actor who plays the obnoxious brother, Prince Phillip, also identifies as queer.) Fry actually has friends among the royalty and has spent time with them, so I guess we can think his mannerisms, including how he says "homosexual," might have some validity. The "yellow rose of Texas" is a song that dates back to mid-19th century. This was not a reference to a flower. The original words tell of a slave who goes to Texas to find his girlfriend, who was "yellow" in the parlance of the time, a light-skinned black person, mostly likely due to interracial parents. The words were slowly changed to remove this element, but even in the latest version, the "yellow rose" refers to a betrothed woman, not a type of flora.
I think Mathew Lopez did a brilliant job with movie. He has won all kinds of awards for in his live theater work including writing the book for”Some Like Hot” a smash broadway hit. I also noticed that in the oval office there was a picture on the wall of Harriet Tubman another woman and former slave famous for helping slaves escape to freedom in the north via the underground railroad in the 1850s.

The movie hits way different when you know all of their backstory, right? I'm glad you've had the chance to enjoy it both ways: not knowing anything about them and having gone through their whole story with the book. I love how TZP and NG took all the initial criticism on how they weren't the right cast and made history with their portrayals of Alex and Henry, respectively. They did such a great job and they could say so much with just their faces and body language; I know that's their job as actors, but they actually understood their characters and did the best job bringing them to life. I remember seeing that sex scene for the first time and thinking, "That's so beautiful!" It made me emotional. I mean, I know it's sex and it's hot and what not, but for me the emotion that shows through in every detail is intimacy and so much care. I was awe by how the director chose to show that specific scene and the work both actors did. On the topic of the director. The same way that you do, I love the way they 'showed' their texts and emails in the movie. When they appear to be together but we knew they really weren't was excellently executed. You know that scene when they're on the phone and we see them in bed together? I remember reading somewhere that a fan said, "Matthew-the director-read that paragraph in the book when Alex thinks during that super long phone call they have in the book that he imagined he and Henry were like two parentheses encompassing kilometers in distance and just decided to give us that wonderful image where they are facing each other in bed and literally look like two parentheses." Really liked you In Memoriam sections for the characters that weren't in the movie! And I was surprised every time you said something in this video that was an almost direct quote from the book because sometimes in the videos of the chapters you were like, "Sorry. I don't remember exactly." I'm obsessed with these two characters and I'm thankful for fan-fiction so I can still kinda stay with them a little longer, even if my brain sometimes gets very annoying until I write down the stories it comes up with. 🙄 Thanks for sharing this one with us!! I'm gonna go revisit Oliver and Lucy for whenever you get started with those videos. I'll prepare with 2 chapters, just in case!
It was honestly like watching a different movie after know everything about it, like same same, but better. Yes the sex scene, just the perfect choice of how it was done and acted, it just portrayed so many things and I loved it. Yaaayyyyyy!!!!!! I continue to rewatch it, full movie, or broken up for reaction videos, interviews, etc. Each time, I catch more nuances. The facial expressions are so wonderful as they flit across the actor's face. It took me several times to actually pay attention to the incidental music, which I understand how much this adds, after watching clips with different music. So many of the lines are so economical and are like finely carved sculpture, there is so much craftsmanship. (And of course, I still wind up feeling the same emotions interspersed with the humor, hopefully endlessly.) Would love to see your reaction if you were to bring in a friend who hasn't seen it, and share their reactions with you, and vice versa, and with us.

Yeah on the second watch, knowing what I know I am not a big fan of Miguel , but at lease he is good to hate haha. The dance scene always has me screaming or crying haha. Yeah and funny thing is, he doesn’t feel any connection to his Russian family history, where as he identifies as Greek, speaks the Greek language fluently and goes to Greece often to visit his mom’s family. , and loves to sing in Greek and dance the Sirtaki. It has probably to do that his dad really didn’t feel any ties to his Russian heritage, as where is Mom is Greek and instilled her culture in her children.

I had RWRB on my watch list for 6 weeks before I saw it. I want those 6 weeks back so I can watch it sooner and more often! I've seen it a half dozen times or more. I've read the book and listened to the audio book. I've seen all the reaction videos I could find on You Tube and came around to yours again because you posted this rewatch reaction. Then I watched all your RWRB book read-through reaction vids and the two deleted scene reactions and then watched your first reaction vid and this rewatch reaction vid again. I'm not at all obsessed. I just noticed, I think in the “red room” scene when Alex is talking with Miguel, the background is green screen. Since they had to reshoot Miguel’s scenes because they replaced the original actor, I think they went the easy way of filming Miguel close up and use green screen to put the party crowd behind him as opposed to refilming that entire party scene.
i've always thought that the Miguel device was cringe. they didn't have to have the full backstory of Raf but they could have pinned it on the GOP in a timing appropriate manner. frankly it would be shocking if that weren't the case. reporters can't casually hack people's accounts when they want.

I think there are people in Australia who really care about them, more the older generation, but from my perspective, I'd say most people do not think or care about them very much, they are just a thing that is somehow connected to our country if that makes sense.

It is a different approach to royalty than Young Royals, much more optimistic, sort of a sexier Heartstopper. Henry and Alex are quite independent. Wilhem (Young Royals) seemed more needy. It was honestly like watching a different movie after know everything about it, like same same, but better. Yes the sex scene, just the perfect choice of how it was done and acted, it just portrayed so many things and I loved it. I'm happy you enjoyed the in memoriams, I thought they were rather funny :) also so glad you're coming on the boyfriend material journey

I continue to rewatch it, full movie, or broken up for reaction videos, interviews, etc. Each time, I catch more nuances. The facial expressions are so wonderful as they flit across the actor's face. It took me several times to actually pay attention to the incidental music, which I understand how much this adds, after watching clips with different music. So many of the lines are so economical and are like finely carved sculpture, there is so much craftsmanship. (And of course, I still wind up feeling the same emotions interspersed with the humor, hopefully endlessly.)

Yeah on the second watch, knowing what I know I am not a big fan of Miguel , but at lease he is good to hate haha. The dance scene always has me screaming or crying haha. Zahra is the best, you're Mum has great taste in favorite characters. History huh, i really need to get a shirt with that on it. the 'baby' kills me know, send me into such an emotional state. we won, i love them, we as the audience won by betting this movie :)

Yeah and funny thing is, he doesn’t feel any connection to his Russian family history, where as he identifies as Greek, speaks the Greek language fluently and goes to Greece often to visit his mom’s family. , and loves to sing in Greek and dance the Sirtaki. It has probably to do that his dad really didn’t feel any ties to his Russian heritage, as where is Mom is Greek and instilled her culture in her children.

The tie that Henry wears with yellow roses at the end of the movie during the election is a reference to a song "yellow rose of Texas" which dates back (apparently) to the mid 1800s. Recall Alex is from Texas. He lives in Austin, the state capital of Texas. It's hard for non-Americans (and frankly, Americans) to catch this reference.
In the scene where Alex tells Nora about the kiss you see the large poster in the background in the colors of the bisexual flag on it is a pic of a black woman well that is Shirley Chisholm the first back woman elected to congress from the 12 district in New York in 1968. She was also a Democratic candidate for the US presidency in 1972 and a supporter of civil and womens rights back in the day. Also in the oval office there is a picture of Harriet Tubman a former slave who led many slaves to freedom in the north via the underground railroad in the 1850s

I had RWRB on my watch list for 6 weeks before I saw it. I want those 6 weeks back so I can watch it sooner and more often! I've seen it a half dozen times or more. I've read the book and listened to the audio book. I've seen all the reaction videos I could find on You Tube and came around to yours again because you posted this rewatch reaction. Then I watched all your RWRB book read-through reaction vids and the two deleted scene reactions and then watched your first reaction vid and this rewatch reaction vid again. I'm not at all obsessed. And your reactions are so cute. Now I have to get Boyfriend Material and read that before you're done with it. It's a good thing I don't have a life! Great job on all these videos!! I just noticed, I think in the “red room” scene when Alex is talking with Miguel, the background is green screen. Since they had to reshoot Miguel’s scenes because they replaced the original actor, I think they went the easy way of filming Miguel close up and use green screen to put the party crowd behind him as opposed to refilming that entire party scene.

i've always thought that the Miguel device was cringe. they didn't have to have the full backstory of Raf but they could have pinned it on the GOP in a timing appropriate manner. frankly it would be shocking if that weren't the case. reporters can't casually hack people's accounts when they want.

Ethan, what do you as an Australian citizen think of the British royalty. I assume it's different from those that live in the UK.
I think there are people in Australia who really care about them, more the older generation, but from my perspective, I'd say most people do not think or care about them very much, they are just a thing that is somehow connected to our country if that makes sense.
@@ethanclarkreacts Yes, I feel if the US were somehow connected to the UK like, say, Canada, we would think the same thing. That is, the royalty is this distant thing. It is a different approach to royalty than Young Royals, much more optimistic, sort of a sexier Heartstopper. Henry and Alex are quite independent. Wilhem (Young Royals) seemed more needy. Ethan, it's great you answered on CZcams. Few people do.
