This song recalls the excitement of being 15 in the summer of 1983 and being taken by a cool college friend to the David Bowie concert. She had dressed us both up in her outrageous New Wave clothes and shoes. Driving back to her place with "Let's Dance" still ringing in our ears, we made an impromptu stop at a disco along the road. As we walked up to the door, I could hear the intro to this song for the first time, "S...A...F...E..." calling my name as if through some secret code. Underage, my heart pounding, we boldly went right in and walked up to the dance floor. Many eyes were on us as we began dancing and some even joined us. But we were soon interrupted by two bouncers who complained that we were too wild and "far out" for their dress code. As we looked up to respond, the song lyrics came right on cue: "We can dance if we want to!" and we said nothing and went with it. Other people joined in, dancing with us in protest, "we can dance, we can dance, everything's under control", and the bouncers were outnumbered and helpless as we went on wildly dancing. From then on - it was "our song".
What an awesome anecdote. I love to hear stuff like this. It gives music real intrinsic meaning when you can relate amazing life experiences with it. Thanks ✌️
You had to be 14 years old in the summer of 1983, give or take a few years, to truly appreciate this song and the memories it brings back at the first note

Heck, I turned 25 the summer of '83 and I love this song to this day.
This was a big Hit in the long hot Summer of 1983
I wish I had the extended version on my mp3 instead of the regular one.

i love how the title says HD and the picture....nah not quiet
This is the more popular version. It was the one played on the radio. That intro spelling out SAFETY is what made this song so epic.
The shorter version was the best and was played on the radio the most, this is crap and too long to get radio play
Well played Tyrion Lannister!
