I did go through a cymbal journey similar to you. I am 63 years old. Started with A Zildjian cymbals in the early 70’s. Mainly replicating Buddy’s setup. Around 1979/80 I fell in love with Steve Gadd’s old K sound. They were hard to find near me so I bought a Canadian K 20” Medium Heavy ride. Had those cymbals till the early 90’s. I sold my Zildjians and went with a combination of Sabian AA/AAX/HH . I used the Sabian cymbals till 2000. I then sold the Sabians and went completely with Paiste from 2000 to 2022. I owned cymbals from 2002/Signature/ Traditionals/ Dark Energy/Dimensions and Masters line. In 2022 the high pitches of the Paiste were starting to bother my ears. I had a friend that got a Sabian endorsement and he offered to get a couple Sabian cymbals for me. I went with an Artisan 20” light ride and 19” Artisan crash. I loved these cymbals and my Sabian journey started again. I now have two full sets of Sabian cymbals from the Artsan line and HHX Complex lines.

@@Drumguy48 that’s an awesome journey my friend! I’m 63 years old too! I am less than ten years into my Paiste journey … what style of music do you mostly play? That seems to be the driving force behind my journey these days. Thanks for watching and the great story! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🥁😎

Thank you Earl! That was quite the extensive historyof your cymbals and the picturesare to live for!. To hear these cymbals is required for individuals who are also looking for a sound and have no understanding of putting a group of cymbals together.
My instructor plays these B/8's which are in the drum cubes and it is uncanny how they sound when played to a song as opposed to just holding the cymbal to hear the sound.
For some reason the SR2's intrigued me so I found a 18" thin crash that works.
I think Shane and Company from the drum center of portsmouth hand picks their elite SR2's every year. ( problem is their like Russell stovers...you never really know what your getting)

@@edwardkaminsky8142 thanks for the feedback Edward! My Sabian cymbals have been proline cymbals … I’m not really a beginner line cymbal guy … but I have bought or owned a few Paiste 505, 404, and PST 7 cymbals. But B8 Sabian cymbals are not my thing at all! SR2 line is an interesting concept … but I have never played any! Thanks for watching!

a cymbal can really sound good when you play them at home... but then take m to rehearsal.. nope! big difference, some cymbals sounds awful at home...but.. at rehearsal they sound amazing! some cymbals sounds perfect in the living room but sound awful in the kitchen...
and the search goes on and it's a lovely journey... and then Gadd... playing always with the same cymbals till they drop dead... maybe it's not the cymbal.. but we have to learn to play them (know them) ;-) thanks Earl great content

@@offbeat74 I couldn’t agree more .. it’s the player’s ears more than the cymbal. Our ears inspire us to explore! That’s why this is my journey, my path, my ears! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🥁🥁

I loved your Story Behind the Gear #2 video. One thought that popped into my mind when you were hitting your crash cymbals was, “Does he have a reason for each of those cymbals to be located where they are or are they just set up wherever?” High to low or vice versa?
Anyway, again, this was great. See you on video#3.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
