Damn great idea but dangerous at the same time
Thank god for this channel, it's basically the only game in town when it comes to staves, sticks, and the like. You do a great job of just being yourself on camera. great work!
Safety Point: Bear in mind that when you're pulling up the pocket to set it into the trigger, if your toes slip off the forked end, it's going to rocket up into your face. Definitely don't lean over the sharp end when yer loading either.....thing would go straight through yer neck or eye and you'd be done for.
Otherwise very solid concept! Good stuff man!
Looking at this design, I'd recommend anchoring the pointed end in the ground or a log and pulling down from the fork. I'd take a fork to the top of the skull over a spear through the chin any day.
Omg I actually have the video paused on that moment to comment about the fork not being locked in place.
Hmmm... just stick a stick in the bottom of the fock as a stopper so it can't be pull out...
I'm not sure if this is madness or genius... Regardless I'm impressed.
Mainly madness! Thanks mate!
Both are not far of from eachother
i mean this is a thing. not to take away form what hes done, but its a thing already. I do however like that its kind of an add on. Thats a cool idea. I had an idea for a bow, that fits on a platform to become a crossbow, like some Chinese bows were turned into crossbows and without the bow the platform is also an atlatl ...and possibly has slingshot stuff. so its like 4 weapons in 1.

TBH it's easy than it looks
Especially if you have a good drill bit kit you need a thick stick tho
Yow jake, did you finished your paintball rifle?
@@acessassin2179 Yeah but I kinda ended up turning it into a single shot air gun instead of semi automatic. My system for the magazine was a complete fail lol
Shhh big brother is listening 😊
Loss power is caused by the cooling of the bands. Heat is generated when you pull the bands back and release immediately. As you pull and hold, you lose the heat and energy. I think Joerg explained this in an early video.
Yes but I think the idea here is for a user to not require that much skill to use it due to the easier aiming. I did something similar and can hit with a soda can size grouping (target) from 10m away (i havent calibrated my sights for other distances tho). Power wont matter if you cant hit stuff reliably. So its a tradeoff ofc.
i think another thing might be the pouch itself. the strings might not be releasing the shot properly and holding onto it a bit too long.
Great addition to your staff arsenal. I'm currently putting a survival staff together and after watching this have had some alternative ideas to this slingshot crossbow idea. Great stuff, inspirational 👍
I just found your channel, and now I have a staff infection!
I hope lock down ends before this guy uses his spare time to design and build an atomic bomb out of sticks, leaves and rabbit droppings 😂
Theoretically, to build an atomic bomb, all you need is beryllium, and a radioactive isotope of uranium, and explosive charges around the bomb core. Idk about beryllium, but uranium can be found in smoke detectors: sooo, buy like 200+ smoke detectors to harvest an amount of uranium that is about the size of a basketball or medium medicine ball, and then make the beryllium into a perfect housing for the uranium (beryllium should have half the diameter/ width be hollow) and keep separate the upper cap of the beryllium from the uranium, so it doesn't go super critical and release a radiation flare, and then cover with explosive charges to aid the two caps colliding, and to add further pressure upon the bomb core. I'm actually fairly surprised terrorists haven't figured this out. I'm sure there's a shit ton of math actually involved, but this is still a detonation capable nuke, albeit a very janky dirty bomb (it will mainly release radiation upon detonation).
@@QockNobblr Look up _David Hahn_ -- he did that. He didn't end well.
@@QockNobblr I think its Americium in smoke detectors , I think its hard to for terror groups to make a proper bomb , they can only make dirty bombs because of the difficulty in collecting enough fissile material , still you could just hing around faslane im sure they dump enough radioactive materials into the clyde
Man I am so glad I recently found your channel. You are a lot of fun to watch, and are giving me ideas for my D&D Artificer.
Mate, that is an incredible idea and the fact that you can make it from easily found materials and it is quick to assemble and use is FANTASTIC ! ! ! Keep up the great videos and sharing them with us.
"I've always got my staff on me. It's a long bit of wood." Phrasing, dude.
There are plenty of innuendos in all my staff videos.. its hard to avoid! haha!
As it should be, lmfao.

@Cosmic Rey was that the water plant or the other plant? Clever

It’s obvious you had fun doing this project. Love the creativity. Well done sir..

I looked up slingshot bow for someone and saw this. Love this even better!
Dope crafts bro! I'm amazed
Thanks buddy!
Hey I am a big fan of your u tube channel and I really like your 1v1 surviving challenges
I love it, just keep using it and you'll work it out. Id put the sling shot on the pointy side, so you don't get poked. Cheers
This is utterly brilliant.
I love this!! You have something unique, quirky, and fun here. Do check with the slingshot guy and PLEASE keep working with it. I can't wait for Staff Slingshot Crossbow Mark II.
Awesome, my patriot bro, Semper Fidelis, your friend Falcon.
You are a genius! Seriously, if you don't have access to milled equipment what you have designed and build in this video, is awesome given the state of affairs we find ourselves in today. Good job
Simplicity. Elegance. Marksmanship.
I live with a spinal cord injury outdoors as much as I can so q staff is the first part of my gear no matter what. I never thought of this so I might have to try it! Awesome idea man!!! Definitely giving you a sub!
I think the main reason for the dud shots would be caused by the strings pulling the pouch back to the latch/trigger mechanism. They distort the pouch shape unpredictability causing the bearing to release poorly sometimes. They should be attached from the sides in line with the rubber band so they don't interfere with the pouch
Not center placed in the pouch will cause it too not get proper momentum!
Oh my, I love everything staff related, but I sure wasn't expecting this, you mad, mad genius!
This video for the real outdoorsman, city folk dont get the mastry of simple yet complex ingenuity. thank you for your ingenious ideas
Very clever design young man. Keep up the good work.
We use these on our tree crew. We tie a weighted bean bag thing to string, shoot it in a tree, tie a climb rope to the end and pull it through. Beats trying to throw 50ft or higher up into a tree. I’m planning on making one to take fishing when I slide bait. Nice video.
This is ingenious! My dad used to use one of those forked wading sticks and I've often wondered if one could fashion a slingshot from the fork but this thing is on another level.
Best of luck! Fantastic idea for a kit that would sell for sure! I can see the whole kit, staff and all in all the typical outdoor materials and colors...fancy little belt sheath for the versatile accessory kit. Keep your line in the water and be patient. Don't let this slip into the darker depths of the covid dark ages.
Joerg from the slingshot channel would be the man to take this to the next level.
You say it's a bit crude but I think you did a great job. I like the more primitive, natural wood materials too.
Yes I agree. Primitive is better.
It is impressive.
I'm an archer and converted a slingshot to also firing arrows. You could do that with this so easily and fire nock-less arrows quite like a crossbow.
The shape of the hand-made bird-gun is so unique and wonderful. That's a great video. Subscribe. Thank you. From South Korean CZcamsr Woongkham.💚💙💜

Yes indeed contact Joerg from slingshot channel even post this video to him .He is a bloody genius and has over 2.5 million followers. Cheers mate for posting this :-)
Cool idea. I suggest putting the pointed end of the staff through the sling forks handle to lock it in place.
Some bro with a metal detector: "WTF are these ball bearings doing all over the middle of nowhere?"
the bro behind him: I'm not sayin it's aliens, buuut...
Geniuuuuus!!! I really like the upcycling aspect of that too.
I know nothing but I think alot of guys recommend pulling down the catty as you release to help get the fork and elastic out the way. So you could try releasing and dipping the front. Awesome original idea though. Very impressed
Thank you, friend.
Much appreciated.
I'm definitely make one of these.
That is a wonderful proof of concept idea ! Well Done !
Fantastic mate! Jorge will be proud of your efforts!!
Hey, want to join my wasteland raider group?
This is an awesome project, and so simple!
Wasteland weakened? :)
I like it. I the begining you had a sling staff. I took a stick about 18" long, carved it oval like a hammer handle. Carved a notch 2" down on the edge and 1" down from that a hole on the side for one end of the paracord woven sling. The notch holds the loop behind you, but you twist it a little a throw it off the smooth edge. Very primaries, but can't remember it's name.
I'm glad you didn't change your channel name
I’d seat that metal slingshot frame further down into the wood and stick a pin through the bottom of the Y is it can’t slip out and hit you in the face

@@justincasey_grabbederpussy6756 You jackass ! You do realize this is something that has been made before and if he had trouble with his version other people may know how to fix those issues so the next one comes out better. Hell you can buy them on ebay made and ready to go for under 40 bucks . When someone makes something and admits they did not get it working well other people are more than allowed to try and help them figure out the flaws in the design . Maybe you should not be such a dink and find your own stick to widdle !
This is an interesting idea. I would simplify the trigger mechanism by making it a hooked, one piece tiller. The pressure from the bands would keep it locked, until downwards pressure was applied to the rear, letting the cord slide off. It would tilt back and forth on a carved bearing; something to make note in this design is the angle of the grains, which should be angled along the hook, but not quite vertical. The trigger itself would be held in place by some cordage, anything that would keep it taut against the staff.
Think I'd be wearing 2 pair of safety glasses for that first test 🤪 For the trigger mechanism just make it from on branch and drill a hole through it like you did for the slingshot mount so that it slides on from the end of the staff and you can drill in holes along the staff for a pin so you can adjust the tension for multiple tensions.
Brilliant idea, man! I'm sure to make one me own... This is the first video is yours I've seen... I'm impressed and I'm subscribing for more!
Very clever!! I’m inspired for the next time I’m out at the camp/hut to make this my project once I’m done making camp and have free time. Oh yeah and by next time I mean tomorrow hahaha! I own a few hundred acres of forest and field. So I’m always out on the trails or making new ones and working and doing maintenance on my tree stands and blinds (made completely with materials found or harvested in the woods)! But I digress. So this will be a handy tool to tool around with haha but I’ll still have ol’ reliable with me (Smith & Wesson 38 special snub nose) if I step one foot out of the house shes cocked locked and ready to rock doc. Again I digress. So yeah great video, very thorough but doesn’t ramble on and take forever to show the process so well done on that lad.
Use a bench clamp for the trigger. I know it's not real woodscrafty but it would get the job done. Halfbean survival says what's up man from South Texas. Splendid idea and craftsmanship.
Awesome! Definitely a fan.
Great content and fun to watch. Looking forward to your next video.
DEFINITELY send this video to Jeorg Sprave!
Also, I bet a large part of the variability in power comes from the imprecise fitting of the fork into the housing. Once you are able to play around with different materials, try finding a way to make a rock-solid connection there. Another likelyhood is variability in the release off of the trigger piece. If it doesn't come off cleanly every time, you will definitely see some variability in power.
If I saw a commercial version of this on the market for a reasonable price, I would by it immediately.
I play with a staff sling, so I had to see this, and I like it a lot!
I believe clamping on is the best solution. A bit of rubber glued inside the trigger assembly pieces should hold it like glued in place. You could also cut a couple of slits on the slingshot end piece and paracord tie that on for more ease to install/remove it.
That's one nifty tool you made there Bro! Especially I like the trigger-mechanism! Congrats and greetings from Hamburg!
Great project and video!
Just made this, coolest thing I've ever made
I gotta say you did a fine job. It looks real good to me. I think you're being hard on yourself its very good

Absolutely brilliant!!! New sub!

Great idea.I can't wait to make one.
This is the goodness I'm watching at 6am
Lol love the modular concept. I too was inspired to try build a slingshot thingy because of Joergsprave and the sudden abundance of free time. I alos had the shot flop instead of flying straight but then found a mechanism that works reliably 100% of the shots so far. What I did was to put the marble against something. This way, the pouch which is in tension is confirmed to be pressed firmly on the marble instead of just being held back by another component and have the marble just loosely held inside the pouch. From the looks of it this current design can totally be converted in a jiffy. Just remove the pouch modification and pull the shot inside the pouch and seat the shot directly touching the branch. Use the lever to push the shot upwards so it escapes the branch. Not sure if this will be reliable for your design but it worked for me, plus, its a 2 minute modification so I guess its worth a try.
Btw I also just uploaded short clips of it over the course of last week along with failures and design changes and perhaps thats why Im suddenly getting slingshot related videos like yours on my youtube recommendation
That’s nice I like your lever action on the end with the strings on the pouch with a slingshot.
I made a Slo-mo shot rifle with an old rifle stock the staff is bamboo.
I had a close pin for laundry as a trigger action not good I’ll try yours thanks.
Great idea, man. I like the way you think.
Good job!, would like to see a part 2 accuracy test and possible upgrades.
Pretty darn clever if I do say so, good job!
Really good vid, like your ideas. Thanks
Something like that staff sling shot was used around 2000 in Bougainville against the PNG defense force. They were just hand held with no trigger mechanism. They practiced a fair bit with them and got reasonably good at it. Some were very big requiring two people to use them, the front person supported it and the back person did all the work. The back of the staff went under the armpit if I remember rightly.
They used tier inner tubs for power and their projectiles were huge, that is why they were so big, about 8 feet or well over two meters long.
I don't really see the need for the trigger mechanism and I would worry about it breaking up and hitting me in the face. But the idea does work. The natives were able to hit birds in trees with it.
Very impressive 👍
Thanks for sharing 🤗
Awesome video mate great design and explanation
It's a prototype, man! The third step in invention! And a damn fine one under the circumstances, imho.
Brilliant idea.
I like what you came up with improvised sling shot staff!! Just to say if want more speed out of that I would find different bands that one is too big and thick. I would use multiple thinner one's and your speed would come and a lot more snap. Great job on that tho, I like it!
Now that is innovative and it works. With a bit more work you may have an excellent anti tank or anti aircraft weapon. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next revision.
Been getting back into my slingshot of late, might give this a try :)
Your ideas are wonderful. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Awesome prototype bro, I'm a slingshot maker and shooter and my personal preference for shooting a slingshot are flat-bands.
That's pretty cool!, I Wana see the version you come up with after you've perfected it, I got pretty good with a wrist rocket & this makes me Wana start shooting it again. Keep it up

Cool vid, man. Very interesting idea!
When we were kids (a long long time ago now) we used to use a 3 foot length of 2 by 1 and attach strong elastic to it with a pouch and we called it a Catygun eg: Catapult-Gun. It was powerful and accurate.
Whether it shoot well or not doesn't matter, I'm intrigued by ur creativity , hope u get make one which can shoot arrows, it would be more fun, anyways thanks for ur nice video, it's inspires others ❣️
Impressive!
Others have mentioned the power fatigue the longer the bands remain stretched as a possible contributor to the inconsistency. I'm just guessing, but it's also possible that the pouch doesn't always release the bearing cleanly. If so, could you use a sabot to improve that?
