London to Calais as a pillion - at least I can appreciate the view

  • Level 6; We rode to France from London! I had to go as a pillion as I'm currently working on getting my full license, which means I can't leave the country on my own bike. :'(

    First time I've ever seen a motovlogger come through Folkestone, guess the channel tunnel does put us on the map. There's some pretty nice rides around here though too.

      It was such a beautiful day. Sad I wasn’t the one riding this time, but better to ride as a pillion than in a car 💁🏻‍♀️

      Ya know, since you're a biker apparently living and riding in London, I'm curious to get your perspective on motorcycle security in the city. I'm moving there for uni in September but leaving my MT07 in storage elsewhere ('cause it's my vulnerable child) and I often wonder how much of the hype from London vloggers about bike theft/jacking is just hot air. Do you worry every time you park your bike in town that it won't be there when you return? How exorbitant is your insurance premium? Do you have access to a fortified garage? Ever felt as though you're about to get jacked at traffic lights etc?

    • @MotoWaifu
      @MotoWaifu  Před 6 lety

      Okay, first thing I'm going to say is; riding in London is COMPLETELY different to riding anywhere else in the UK. Yes, mainly 1) Because of bike jackers, but also 2) Because of multiple idiot drivers on the road (I actually just crashed into one of them tonight on my Grom) 3) Tourists & Pedestrians 4) Mass amounts of cyclists 5) Scooter Riders & other Motorcyclists. I always worry when I leave my bike in town. Even if it's chained to a pole with 3 disc locks on it. If they want your bike, they'll take it, no matter how much security you put on it. I have a garage that I can leave it in over night so I'm not too worried then. Bike Jackers are a BIG thing here, you've really got to watch your back. I'm not saying this to scare you, but more to make you aware that it can and does happen. I've got a whole video of something similar happening to me which I've been thinking about posting on CZcams for a while. Insurance is pretty high because; London. Just watch out for yourself and if you do see any scooters with two guys approaching you then disobey the laws of the road. Run that red traffic light, stay safe and get out of that situation. You gotta do what's best for your own safety. On a lighter note, all the cool people ride in London! ^_^

      Wow, I kind of went a bit overboard with CZcams comments today and yet you've given thoughtful replies to them. This was what I was most interested in though, so thank for taking the time to write back.
      I don't intend on riding in London anyhow because I thought what you've just said would be the case, and I'm very aware that my bike is particularly popular and therefore will have a large market for re-sale (either the whole bike with a cloned plate, or broken down as parts). I'm renting storage for it whilst I do a 4 year degree in London, although perhaps after the foundation year I'll try to find a flat/houseshare with somewhere secure to keep the bike and just brave riding in London.
      The crazy road conditions don't worry me too much - first time I ever rode a geared bike was in Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon, southern Vietnam (look it up on here for the traffic, they're fucking nuts over there), also rode a bit in Hanoi and did a bit of a road trip in between. A month before that I'd never even ridden a scooter or anything, but had been driving cars. Anyhow, I've taken enough of your time and attention today. Keep up the good content!

    You're lucky you can filter over there! That traffic would've been a drag to sit in. - and OMG that was a dick move of you to say he didn't have his passport hahaha

    • @MotoWaifu
      @MotoWaifu  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah it’s total legal over here, I’m not sure of the rules in other countries. Hehehe I know, luckily he forgave me 😝

    Hello there! I am digging the bike. Currently on a street bike but I’m planning on upgrading to an ADV. I was just wondering what your thoughts about riding with 2 people on it for a long time are? Sorry if I worded that weird, I’m watching Brooklyn 99 at the moment 😂

    • @MotoWaifu
      @MotoWaifu  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey! So I rode pillion to France on the CB500x, I was sat on the back for a good 10 hours and honestly it was so comfortable! I did 10 hours on my Grom last weekend and it hurt my butt so bad 😢 there’s a huge difference when you change from a street bike to an ADV. If you’re planning on travelling a lot then you should definitely go for it! (I also had a ride of the CB500x when we got there, it’s reallyyyyy smooth) ✌🏻🏍

      MotoWaifu awesome! Thanks for the input! I like you guys. I just found your channel last night and I enjoyed the travel videos because it’s what I want to do so I get to enjoy through you guys lol. Also, European landscapes look awesome and I hope to one day be able to experience them for myself on a motorcycle. Not sure if you’re going to keep posting videos but I’ll be on the lookout 👍🏽 I appreciate the quick response!
