    Thanks for sharing your setup, I always keep my first aid kit in my backpack because if my bike goes down to where I can't quickly get to it, I still have my first aid kit with me to patch myself up if needed before trying to retrieve my bike :)

    Thanks Sean it is always good to see a good lightweight setup. Some very good ideas there. I have to pack lighter on this bike.
    One thing that may make life easier. I noticed you use a basic pump. Tubliss make an amazing mini floor pump that packs down to the size of your pump. Has guage extension tube fold out t handle and requires very little effort to pump even at 100 psi and over. It is true high pressure pump because it is made to handle the tubliss 110 psi inner tube. It is all I use now and sometimes I use this one instead of the Electic pump. That is how well designed it is. If interested MX store has them

    Mate, note on the camping food tins....pull top lids can self open on rough roads they are not packed tight...I had a tin of Stag open on a trip in a top box, at the end of the day it was like the contents of my Kelpie pup stomach and smelled just as bad.

    Nice camping setup. I’ve got some homemade soft panniers, plus a second setup made from two hard plastic cases (like Pelican cases) for if I need a lockable option.
    But whichever system I’m using, I also use mini panniers that mount on the front fairings. One is my quick kitchen and contains everything for a roadside coffee or quick pot of noodles. The other side can be quick access for wet gear

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  Před 2 lety

      Those mini panniers mounted on the front sound like a great idea. Where did you get them from?

    • @johnathanwilkinson9687
      @johnathanwilkinson9687 Před 2 lety

      @@ShonkyProductions I bought a Singer heavy duty sewing machine and after a few simple projects (like stuff sacks), then a hammock (still easy: sewing straight lines), then slightly fiddly curves and corners stuff, I decided to make panniers.
      I bought some plastic-backed heavy duty fabric, some seam-sealing tape, did a bit of thinking, and after much cursing and swearing I had soft panniers. Then I tailor-made some for the front fenders.
      But I have seen a few people with small Wolfman panniers (and similar) mouted up-front.
      I just made Molle connections on the back of my mini panniers, and made another molle connector which is attached to the front fairing with webbing straps (but I don't think I'll do that again -- too long to undo and do up!)

      You are correct, I have only had my 300 Rally for about 6 weeks now. I had one on order from my local Honda dealer but got frustrated with waiting so I started putting adds up on social media wanting to buy one.
      One of those adds paid off and I bought one with 500ks on it, already setup with suspension and a few accessories.

    Good setup, but wouldn't centering the weight help much more than keeping it low?

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  Před rokem

      Ideally you would want the weight centralised and low, but when I'm riding off road I am the heaviest weight the bike has to carry. I always setup my luggage so I can more around and adjust my weight forward or backwards to "Weight" the bike as needed for the situation.
      When I see bikes loaded up so the rider can only sit in one position, I know they are in for a hard time if they hit any soft sand. I met a guy in the desert who was having a very hard time because of how he loaded his luggage up.

    What is the mesh looking cover on the seat? Is that what it is? And what is its purpose, name & brand?
    I use 3M clear paint protection vinyl on plastics and metal tanks. Not too costly, easy to cut with scissors or a knife, and super easy to install with some soapy water.
    And weeks, months later it pulls off easily.

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  Před 2 lety

      The mesh is an "Air Mesh" seat cover that lets air under and water out. I'm still waiting for my Seat Concepts to turn up, so I thought I'd try it out.
      Good advice with the clear vinyl, I'll have to get myself some.

    Hi Sean, am wanting to buy throwover saddlebag like your Coyote. Wont be camping much so dont want to spend a lot, but the ones I am looking at have two sizes, 40 litre and 52 litre. From your experience, is 40 litre sufficient (maybe with added tail bag) or should I go the 50. Dont want to overload the little bike too much. Just one/two nighters mainly. thks

    Hi there just purchased a second hand near new 300 rally last week. Was wondering what hand guards you have fitted. I have pro taper bars on that original owner put on. Also do you have bash plate and crash bars do you think they are needed. Cannot wait to get out in the Vic high country. Thanks for your time cya

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Peter, great choice of bike... Congratulations.
      I have the Barkbuster Jet hand guards, but have fitted the larger "Storm" plastic guards that protect your hands more from the cold and rain.
      For the bash plate, I have a Yamoto one from Biker Bitz in Thailand. I think a bash plate is defiantly necessary especially in the Victorian High Country. The standard plastic bash plate will not hold up to landing on a big rock and will risk damaging your motor if it's a really big rock.
      I will be doing a Yamoto baseplate review with a SUBSCRIBER GIVEAWAY in the next week or so.
      One lucky subscriber will WIN a Yamoto bash plate.
      Stay tuned.

      It's a Air Mesh cover that helps keep a slight gap between your bum and the seat. Great in hot weather and in rain where it prevents the buildup of water between your legs.

      @ShonkyProductions  Před 2 lety +2

      Good question. As I'm still waiting for my Seat Concepts seat to arrive I needed something to make the standard seat a bit more comfortable for me.
      It's a air mesh cover that lets the air under your bum on hot rides. Just a cheap eBay one but on the Stockton ride when I was all sweaty, I could feel it working.
      Works great on the rain too as the water runs out under you and you don't sit in a puddle.
