- I was lucky to witness this amazing dance The Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers) during my last Disney Cruise. Our ship arrived to Cozumel in Mexico and from there we took a ferry to the mainland to see the ancient pyramid in Tulum.
This dance is an ancient ceremony/ritual still performed today. The ritual consists of dance and the climbing of a 30-meter pole from which four of the five participants then launch themselves tied with ropes to descend to the ground. The fifth remains on top of the pole, playing a flute and drum. According to one myth, the ritual was created to ask the gods to end a severe drought.
tears because our culture is so precious
This is super cool. I saw this in person myself. Right near the pyramids in Tulum Mexico. These guys have no fear
*Beautiful ritual created in precolumbian times to ask the rain Gods for water during a severe drought.* *The flute mimics a bird's song. Such bravery.*
Is a Mexican dance
Sun god
Viva México 🇲🇽
No hay duda que Mexico es maravilloso..su cultura es maravilloso.
I’m of Mexican decent, I honestly would try it. Although I know it’s a religious ceremony and not necessarily for play
I recently seen this at Coasta Maya and was amazed there wasn't any fear in them at all. In the USA we would need fall protection just to climb to the top of the 75ft tree not even mentioning coming down on the ropes.
Increible, emocionante! Felicidades a quienes mantienen la tradición.
Sin palabras, solo puedo sentir una emoción, en el pecho, hombre , naturaleza y universo, en conjunta armonía, que viva , Papantla, que viva México!
@JavierJos como que por que
I went on a cruise to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Costa Maya was our first stop, and we saw this in the middle of the tourist shopping area, I didn’t even see them go up there, I just heard drums coming from nowhere, then I looked up and saw these people chillin’ on a pole, then we watched them do the rest.
VOLADORES DE PAPANTLA INCREIBLE TRADICION DE VERACRUZ MEXICO
And to think the Flyers of Papantla (as they are called) usually use a way taller tower.
I'm gonna build me one... One day
Very nicely filmed, especially as you only had a single camera. How did you get the audio so clear? It doesnt' sound amplified.
da very cool
