"If the sky falls on us, we will support it with our trees (lances)" - hussars about themselves; "We will count them when we beat them" - hetman Chodkiewicz before the battle of Kircholm.
The footage is from the movie the day of the seige September 11 1683 the lyrics "death from above it's an army of kings" means that all of the hussars were made up of noble men as they were expected to buy their own equipment and horses and usually even the king would fight too in the battle of Vienna the king jan 3 soblieski (i probably said that wrong) led this charge in person you should watch sabaton history where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song itself
No, death from above meant the polish put their artillery and horseman on high ground. The Army of Kings refers to Holy Legion. Multiple European leaders. The King of Polish-Lithuania gave credit of the victory to the Germanic infantry. Very humble. He knows who won and his allies knew not to mess with him. (Germany would not forget this)
I have been at work and this song has been continuosly playing in my head. You have made a great recommendation, I will be reacting to more of their material.
Fantastic song, and fantastic video... they only got one thing wrong. At the end, the man charging with the green flag... The Flag of the Prophet was safely carried away by the ottoman commander. Who also retreated with the army's treasury. And yeah, trying to sneak off with the money under the banner of faith does not pass the sleeze test. Executed by his own, did not die in battle.
Nice reaction. Pretty much every Sabaton song after Primo Victoria covers an aspect of history, focusing primarily on the sacrifice, honor, and courage that coves from the cauldron of war. If you are looking specifically for music videos that cover history, you might consider the following: Iron Maiden - Alexander the Great (pretty self explanatory title) Iron Maiden - The Trooper (Charge of the Light Brigade, battle of Balaclava, Crimea War) Civil War - Rome Is Falling (Battle of Milvian Bridge from the point of view of Emperor Constantine) Civil War - Gettysburg (title is self evident) Civil War - I will Rule the Universe (Napolean) Sabaton - Primo Victoria (Invasion of Normandy) Sabaton - The Last Stand (Defense of the Pope by the Swiss Guard during the sack of Rome in 1527) Sabaton - Midway (battle of Midway, WW2) Sabaton - 40:1 (Battle of Wizna, less than 1000 Polish soldiers holding off 40000 Germans for three days, 1939) Sabaton - Uprising (Polish resistance Revolt in 1944) Just a small part of what is out there. Sabaton also has a CZcams channel dedicated to the hostory behind their song, I high recommend it. As to actual history videos, too many to list. Cheers from Iowa USA. Enjoy the journey.
On September 12, 1683 King Sobieski led the Hussars to victory, saved Vienna and a large part of Europe from the Ottoman Empire, and on August 5, 1772, three identical treaties were concluded in St. Petersburg, according to which three powers - Russia, Prussia and Austria - made The First partition of Poland (there were 3 partitions, the last one on October 24, 1795, Prussia, Austria and Russia signed the Act of the Third Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. And Poland was non-existent for 123 years, till November 11, 1918, when Poland regained independence). The documents began with an invocation to the Holy Trinity. This is how they thanked us... The irony is- Ottoman Empire DIDN'T acknowladge the partitions and kept keys for Polish ambassy all those years so that after 1918 could gave them to the Polish Ambassador. From "Kurier Historyczny" articule titled: "Dlaczego Turcja nie uznała rozbiorów Rzeczypospolitej? Czyli lekcja geopolityki" (translated): “Has the envoy from Lechistan arrived yet?” - these words were allegedly said throughout the entire partition period, whenever diplomats were officially presented at the Sultan's court. With this simple gesture, the Ottoman Empire, as if contrary to undeniable facts, was letting the international community know that it did not accept that the Republic of Poland did not exist. Istanbul thus became the only capital where the arrival of the Polish legation was still expected. No, Turks were not "friendly", they just knew that with Poland gone, their other enemies would get more powerful, thus endangering the Ottoman Empire.
Thanks for that factual historical comment. Sounds like the Turks viewed as Poland as not being an oppressive enemy compared to rest. It is a shame how Greater Poland was broken down however also good to know the people of Poland haven't forgot their history.
Posluchaj John to znowu ja z polski muzyka to zespół Sabaton husarzy rozbili wielka armie paszy i teraz husarzem bylbten kto mial many za zbroję brano tyle zlota ile ważyła pozdrawiam z Polski
It's footage from the movie 'The Day of the Siege'. It's an excellent movie ruined by terrible digital effects. The care and expense they put into the costumes, acting, and set design was top notch and then the added digital effects immediately snap you out of it. It's a shame really, because It's such an excellent movie.
