Learning from fiction is like expanding the boundaries of imagination and putting yourself in situations that you hadn't imagined before.
So that you can come up with better ideas yourself instead of mugging them up from some self help book written by an author who has completely no knowledge of you and your society.
Studying history also helps but it's all about events not character psychology.

I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

Love this as far as righting down impressions I get from books. Or when I read self improvement books. I read more fiction, but fiction can help you see life from a different perspective. It can reveal to you how ways you might act are toxic to yourself or those around you. Maybe not every chapter, but at least at the end of the chapter you received the revelation.

Aight, so this week I befriended a dragon. My plans for the month include freeing the world from an evil sorcerer and marrying into a wealthy empire

Sometimes it’s not about application, or anything at all. You don’t need to optimise everything. Just enjoy your book and read it again in a few years if you need to

As someone who reads math textbooks this is so free- the chapters literally have exercises at the end.
