Great legend of Violin. Genius and Master of the Double Violin. Wonderful . Such a talent in Carnatic music and Jazz music too.thanks.Coumar / Paris France
I saw Shankar with the great maestro Zakir Hussain on tabla; back in the 1990's at an outdoor amphitheater in Marin County. I ran into him in the public bathroom, and told him that I found it difficult to locate his cd's in the stores. I don't remember that he responded, just looked at me blankly. This geniuses music has been tragically rare to find in this misguided world.
Of course this has changed. Now we have downloads and CZcams!
Thank you for this document of the virtuoso on violin.
They are great at music. The aura they create should be in consonance with their music, that they often fail. I cannot ne half my father and half my mother. I am. Some lose that.
Robert Browning has been an outstanding producer of world music concerts since the 70's having brought the greatest Indian musicians to NYC. I've been privileged to be allowed decorate the stages with rugs and kilims for most of them including at Town Hall, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Thank you Robert. Can't wait for the next featured artists.

@ 1:54:27, I love how the sequence ends with the ethereal notes sounding like seagulls and whales.
I am very excited to know this event took place @ New York. It tells me it may be possible to experience this within the territorial confines of the u.s…

I have attended L Subramanyam's concert in Mysore Palace. Always wanted to see L Shankar in live concert...but seems not possible. The eldest of them - Sri Vaidhyanathan's contribution to Kannada Film Music is immense.

all so true!
Anyone knows why he wears a wig? I’ve only heard of him a few days ago and no one seems to have the answer when I ask lol
💐
I've been listening to Shankar since the early days of Shakti. His solo album "Who's to Know" was (as far as I know), the first released recording with the double-necked violin). My vinyl copy literally got worn out, I played it so many times. This recording is an absolute gem technically. I'll be listening to it repeatedly. Visually however, I find that wig he's wearing very distracting. Really don't know what's going on there. With all respect (which is huge), it's doing nothing to enhance his visual stage presence. It looks very odd.
I have seen him live with that grotesque wig. It indeed is odd, to say the least. We have to accept a few oddities of geniuses. His music is so surreal.
Eccentricity often accompanies Genius, ‘Who’s to Know’!
I also have been listening to him from early 80 in the AIR, when I was a 12 yr old kid. I am his fan since then.
This concert is wonderful and as you said, the wig is a bit odd.
Is his bow smaller than what is normally used with a 4/4 violin?
Or am l seeing wrong?
Matur suksma🎉😊😊😊
Bien de pelo
OKAY FROM MOROCCO

This audio volume is too low ....
that cannot be maestro's real hair!
Were is mahavishnu? His old friend.....
Empieza en 6:27.
Matur Suksma😊
Love L Shankar but what’s with that orange thing on his head?
Felt same. I'm his fan since radio days.
Je me suis perdu, je croyais que c'était l'émission " le grand cactus". Le musicien avec la perruque couleur feu, il ressemble trop à Kody 😂😂😂
Why? Why that orange thing on head?

I’ve been a big fan of this guy for 35 years. But I don’t know why he’s wearing a ridiculous wig
What the heck is dis?? 🤠
The Classical music of Southern India. In the Raagam Thanum Pallavi format which gives it increased scope for improvisation and allows drum accompaniment space for virtuosi. Bear in mind that whereas European classical music commenced with Baroque in 1740s. Hindu classical traditions are around three thousand years old

Great virtuosos, magical sounds. I wonder though what's the ginger wig for. It looks funny. Sorry but I just can't keep my eyes from seeing it.
It’s his armor, I’d say…

Ηis helmet rather, I 'd say.
Theo, yes! His helmet to shield his head from all the psychic bullshit of our age!
Judges wear Wigs!
Agree but artists can be a bit eccentric.
