“It’s my hope chest.”
“What were you hoping for?”
Completely underrated scene!
That is funny.
Stone could give the best lines with the straightest of faces
She was obviously hoping for an Sub to be the Cub to her Cougar....ub.
Ointment for that burn, she just didn’t know it yet.
Too funny! 😆 and with a straight face!
When Ben Stone says " I hear you have LUCID Moments- you are Going to have one NOW!"
You can't deny Ben Stone was a founding pillar of this show. Him and Logan were my favorites.
They sure were.
Ben Stone ???
His weasely, middling approach
was a burden to bear for the first few season- same for Cragen. Though both historically important, they merely set the table for the greater Van Buren,BRISCOE, and most importantly, McCoy. 😐
While McCoy was good Stone was great and Briscoe and Logan were my favourite cop duo.
@@nicholasmaude6906
Lennie's one liners alone...are still priceless.
@@TheBatugan77 What did you think of the Briscoe/Logan duo?
Ben Stone is the kind of person that whether he's in the courtroom or anywhere outside of it, no one ever _ever_ questions his integrity. That's a helluva reputation.
When Stone addresses the defendant with a loud "Sir"...things are about to get real.
subtle and effective, no need to go over the top. putting people on notice.
Ben was almost always cool and collected in the courtroom, but the Lowenstein case is one of my favourite episodes (horrifying as it was) because we got to see Ben the father in how emotional he got grilling Jacob. Ben admittedly wasn't a great father and neglected his family for work, but I think you can kind of see a father's rage and horror when he describes the bloodstain under Didi's head.
I could hear his voice fighting to not break! Wonderful lawyer and an amazing actor!
Yes yes such a good scene. Like Belle said, the shaky voice where he's fighting to not break. Fantastic acting.
The fact that Jacob went dead silent after "Did u even bother 2 pick up Didi, or did u leave her there in the pool of her own blood?" really answered his question right there. Besides, Ben Stone probably wasn't a great father, but he probably still loves his family 2 help them if they need it.
@@brittanymartin6122 That's not love. He only cared about himself the entire time.
The look he gives Lowenstein is *priceless* .
"Objection This case is being judged on this temporal Plane your honor"
One of my favourite lines XD I loved Ben Stone
Ben Stone, more subtle than the flashy McCoy
I love her attorney's expression during that scene. "I did my best and my client screwed it up and now the case is lost."
most iconic line🤣
Sustained
I love the fact that even after so many years, they brought back the memory of the character through his son Peter Stone in SVU.
When Ben asked the bomber how she felt about killing the unborn baby I was so stunned with that moment...
09:17. "Do you think of yourself as a black lawyer or a lawyer who's black?". Then a great callback to this scene in S06 - Ep14 "Custody" when Paul came back defending a former drug addicted mother. "Ben Stone once said that I would have to decide if i was a lawyer who was black, or a black man who was a lawyer. All those years I thought I was the former. All those years I was wrong". Brilliant performance.
nyosito...
Absolutely. Shame they couldn't keep Paul from coming back. He was great.
I gotta find this scene!
@@NileLLS I just found it for you. czcams.com/video/QLq4YVMdTV4/video.html
@@nyosito You're the best! It's blocked in my country but I'll find a way to watch it. Thank you!
Ben Stone was the heart and soul of the show then when he left it fell to Lenny Briscoe.
Ben Stone was by far the best of the DAs. Always loved Michael Moriarty, and he got me hooked the first time I saw the show.
Also in Season 1, Stone pulled a trick on a defense attorney to get his client in trouble. While the two were making a deal, Stone offered his client immunity from prosecution of crimes in New York County (Manhattan). The defense attorney thought it was for all of New York City. At the end of the episode, the client was arrested for a crime he committed in Brooklyn. Stone told the client that maybe he should get a better lawyer the next time.
Always enjoyed it when Stone said "Sir!" You knew hell was coming. He seldom raised his voice and almost never used the wild facial gestures and over the top physical movements Waterson later used. They could both be a horse's ass, but for me Stone had more dignity; McCoy was just loud.
While i disagree, and use McCoy's voice as Nyquil, you DID remind me of the famous: "Sir.", lol. You're right. my all time favorite was when Stone was conferencing with a smug serial killer who kept calling him: "Ben". He finally said something like: "The offer is__ & in polite society, ppl don't address each other by their first name unless invited, & I haven't extended you that invitation, SIR, so you may address me as Mister Stone." 😎✌💗
thank you.
@@alysiamerdavid-wasser9165 Alysia, that would be in this clip! czcams.com/video/_MhDZbuwG_U/video.html
@@alysiamerdavid-wasser9165 I love that scene btwn Ben Stone and Phillip Swann (played by Željko Ivanek, from "Homicide: Life on the Street"!)
McCoy always just threw tantrums, especially if he didn’t get what he wanted and he was so over dramatic.
Never understood why they let him act in so many seasons when he doesn’t have any depth
Stone: The people call Bridget McDirmand
Defense: Yeah we’re done
Always loved the way he said "Sir" in a condescending tone. He even did it to Adam Schiff. I forget the episode though.
Best part of the show is when he would level someone with that "sir".
I'd wait all show for it
Seasons 1-4 of ‘Law and Order’ were among the best television ever produced.
The first seasons of "Law&Order" with Michael Moriarty and Chris Noth are amongst the best TV programming ever!
The Jacob Lowenstein episode is one of my favorites with Ben Stone. His emotion was amazing.
"This case is being judged on the temporal plane." Fuckin' hell, I wonder how many times that's been said in real court.
Stone, Robinette, Logan, Briscoe, Cragen, Cerretta, and Schiff are my all time favorite characters.
These are best performances on television. Everything was on point.
Youuuuuurrrr Honor... Mr Stone is destroying my defence
Taz
Overruled.
It wasn’t that strong to begin with.
@@adman1381That sent me 🤣🤣🤣
4:35 Woman, you're about to get dunked on so hard.
DrThunder88 😂😂😂
Chocolate thunder would be proud......lol
1 question for the anti abortion defendant and he caught her in her own belief
Transitfan93 Productions That was gold! Haha
He fried her with that good Crisco
The woman witnessing about the slaughter of her family got me to tear up, great performance !
1:52 Stone wanted to leave _that_ guy in a pool of his own blood! 😶
If I found a man who was letting her daughter getting beaten bloody and doing nothing about it, I'd want to pummel him too.
His simple statement to Robinette..was something powerful. Around 9:19.
The defendant reaction when the rebuttal witness was named shows he knows he’s screwed
5:37 - man knew it was game over for him.
Oof, the way he destroyed that anti abortionist lady was fantastic. Hahaha
Catholic means brainwashed.
@Catholic means Universal If we were to think like that we should not be eating eggs in any form.
I know of several clinics that, though they do abortions, are the only places available for poor women to get gynecological exams, treatment for any issues those exams might reveal, pap smears, birth control, pregnancy tests, prenatal care and obstetrical care and counseling. One of them closed because their staff was being attacked on their way to and from work. And their patients were being taunted and occasionally harmed while trying to go to their appointments. Attacked by men and women who thought of themselves as Christians. They never admit, as far as I can see, how often fully half of the patients seen in what the crusaders call "abortion mills" are there to get care for an illness or birth control or care so their baby can be born healthy.
@Catholic means Universal No it isn't.
I loved the look on her face when what Stone said sunk in.
Why can't we get the same level of quality writing & acting on TV anymore?
because people preferred that trash that is svu
Stone was calm, collected and the paragon of virtue; McCoy was too emotional and ethically compromised. Stone over McCoy any day.
George Prchal Stone had his hothead moments but he was so smart and strategic. He could almost always outsmart any defendant. I loved the McCoy character but Stone was my favorite. Old school Law and Order is my favorite because of him
@@intldawn if it doesn't have Logan it's not true Law And Order.
Peter takes after his father for sure!
Yup ,Stone was the man on the series
@@intldawn Mine too. And because he was so strategic, it made the moments he slipped up very human (like "Severance") and all the more interesting.
35mm film, handheld, nicely and evenly lit. I miss those days of quality TV production.
9:49 "...Oh, you're going this way too?..."
Michael Moriarty is the grandson of George Moriarty, Detroit Tiger teammate of Ty Cobb.
Too bad Michael Morriarty got in his own way. Combination of alcoholism combined with his political views (and erratic behavior) led to him being fired from the show. I don't know how many people realize he left the US and moved to Canada right after his run on Law and Order ended in 1994, declaring himself a "political exile". (He became a Canadian citizen)
loved him as an actor. saw him in a couple of movies, vietnam one and a cop and criminal one, excellent. shame.
And he lives just down the road from me
Well damn
@@dinojay8410 What's he like? (asking out of real curiosity)
@@zakaosnat742 ... I've never spoken to him ... when I say "down the road" ... I didn't exactly mean like a few feet, but rather closer to a mile plus.
But, he has always been one of favourite actors ... for what its worth (and that probably is not worth much!) 😂
The abortion episode was a crowning piece of art in the twist and turns throughout it.
I love how the camera moves in these scenes, it’s fresh. The way the camera moved in closer to the guy on the stand. So good.
Truly a fantastic actor. Always been my favourite. Oh, and Logan!
I absolutely love how stone totally eviscerated Lowenstein without even trying just by making him look like the cokehead loser he actually was.
Ben Stone = The Man
"What were you hoping for?"
haha.
I cried when ben resigned.
You know you’re screwed when Ben Stone addresses you as “sir” or “ma’am”
I always loved this show. Started watching in 1993.
I loved both Stone and McCoy for different reasons.
“I’ll see you tomorrow”
*BoTh wAlK AwkWaRDlY iN tHE saMe DiRecTIon*
I hate it when that happens IRL too...
I was very delighted to learn Lowenstein got another appearance...and got what he deserved in it.
And is it wrong that I never get tired of the judges getting loud and angry and pounding the gavel?
I'll allow it.... but watch yourself, McCoy!
“What we’re you hoping for?”
“A good time.”
Please administrators ask Peacock to stream shows back to season one!
Michael Moriarty was the heart and would of Law and Order. It was downhill after he left. Hail Ben Stone.
3:58 Stone looks like he can't even believe what he is saying. "Objection. This case is being judged on the temporal plane, your honor."
The Ben Stone years were the BEST!!
Stone and Robinnette are my favorite characters. They brought a certain energy whenever they were on screen. It was almost felt Shakespearean with how they talked.
4:35
4:46
Mic drop!
Finally!!!!!!! Thank you so much😄🤘
If Stone called you "sir", he was not being polite or respectful.
"See you tomorrow"
*Starts awkwardly walking in the same direction*
THis show is relateable if nothing else
"Objection; this case is being judged on the temporal plane Your Honor!" lol!
While I did like McCoy who was good at his job still my favourite L&O ADA was Ben Stone.
Funny thing , I loved McCoy at 1st and the early seasons I was just waiting till he took over.
After watching till Adam Schiff left I think Stone is far and away my favorite.
McCoy didn't take it as serious or something, like it was a game to him. Stone was all business like I think that job requires as you are dealing with people's lives.
@@Kruppt808 Stone had a degree of moral integrity which IMO McCoy was lacking.
What were you hoping for?
Stone was the best part of this show.
Saying goodbye or "I'll see you tomorrow" to someone and then you both end up walking in the same direction is very real
the best ADA in Law and Order history.
I thought McCoy was the one until I saw Ben Stone😉
Moriarty's Ben Stone was head and shoulders better than Sam Waterston's Jack McCoy...
I started drifting away when Moriarty left.
I think all of the earlier actors were better...up to and including Jerry Orbach. I loved Lennie Briscoe.
NYer to the core.
when i watched the show casually i didn't like Stone and love McCoy. When i started from Season 1 and watched till Steven Hill left the show Ben Stone was the superior character imo.
Ben really knows how to set it in stone...
Dear Ben Stone, thank you for having your hot son to be on Law and Order: SVU, until season 20 finale 😍😍😍😍
Who was that?
Pamela Johnson Peter Stone from Law and Order SVU
Ben Stone is my favorite character
Season 1 was the best season
I agree.
Ben Stone and Paul Robinette were true believers in the pursuit of pure justice.
It was a crime to leave out the best quote of Stone’s in season 1. In “Sonata for a Solo Organ,” Stone is negotiating with a surgeon defendant. The surgeon’s attorney asks “What’s it going to take to make you happy, Stone?” To which Stone replies, “Peace on Earth, The Mets in the Series, and Dr. Rebardy in Dannemora.”
What were you Hoping for ? 😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They call him 'Cold Stone Ben'
Its my hope chest.
Sees dominatrix gear
... what were you hoping for?
Thank you for repeating the scene we all just watched.
@@richardvinsen2385 you're welcome :D
oh wow actors that actually look like normal people!
Stone and Robinett were my fave duo.
best EADA on tv best then Mccoy
Ada
the prosecutor that we always want to have in the courtroom no Ken kratz no Mccoy or Greg Davis or Rick Distasio just searching for justice not for carer or conviction yes hes my favorite DA
Yup loved ben stone character
The best
He was AWESOME
The fact he was only here for 4 season is criminal.
Criminal intent
Ben Stone will always be the man. McCoy lost few cases, compare to Stone.
And only because McCoy would kill his mom for a win
4:40 is my favorite “gotcha” moment from any law and order season
Moriarity was outstanding!
Michael Moriarity set the tone for Who'll Stop the Rain. An immoral war featuring elephants being bombed by planes giving license to smuggle heroin. Then as Major Dorf numbed to genocide. Great actor.
Ironically, Jacob Lowenstein was murdered by his prison therapist and once again the 2 7 was called to investigate and it was Cutter who prosecuted.
i loved that they brought that full circle!!
Jack McCoy was the prosecutor. The event you spoke of was featured in a Season 15 episode. Cutter joined the series in Season 18.
This might be blasphemous but I liked him better than Sam Waterston. I hate that he had a breakdown.
Nailed it! The talk with Paul about his race was brought back & a long debate was held between myself & an atty friend over which was the best *Stone slam: his question for Rose Shwimmer, or the: "Ya hardly forget tha face of the man who slaughtered your entire family."* Looks like i lost.
EDIT: Just read the comments. i "won", lol. Seems you can't* blow up an abortion clinic & forget that you killed an "unborn" of a Born WOMAN & call one life more valuable than the other:Oops😉.
Ben just seemed to be more passionate than Jack McCoy...
My reaction to the antiabortionist getting owned was visceral holy tammoli hahahha hell ya
Stone always seemed to have such a hard on for white boys in this series. Attorney: "We'll plead out to Jaywalking II". Stone: "Jaywalking I. 15 to 20 years, Attica, the basement." Some of the writers must have had bad, bad memories of their school days.
Are you telling me that this Ben Stone Is the father of the law and order SVU prosecutor, Peter Stone’s father?
Yeah is the father of Peter y Pamela
The First series Is the best....
Ben Stone excellent Prosecutor
Don't. Mess. With. Stone.
Man like Stone.
As much as i like this show but I wish Ben Stone would come back as a cameo even if he's no longer a Lawyer, so he could meet Jack McCoy and maybe swap tales just like Paul Robinette came back defending a former drug-addicted mother.
Unfortunately that won't happen.
Because Michael Moriarty wants nothing to do with the franchise and because they killed Ben Stone on the story
Beginning seasons weren't great but glad they were good enough to get it to the good ones
5:02 my favorite.
