No that's just a one-upmanship thing. Gil was as full of shit as Paul. He just had the benefits of time travel. It's like cheating on a test he didn't have to study like Paul did, he just met the people in question yesterday.
@@niallkquinn4458 also Paul 100% comes off as fake and trying to impress others with his knowledge, Gil is trying to show how little Paul actually knows and wants to humiliate him.
@@ColombianThunderI disagree. I think gil simply wants to defend the truth. Perhaps thereby defending his new found (old) friends from an incorrect legacy.
@@markhenry6486 I don't know about that. Maybe you're right to some degree, but I think it's very obvious Gil is enjoying humiliating Paul (made doubly ironic that he's only humiliating himself since they just think he's crazy anyway). But putting that aside, I think Gil likes knowing Paul was full of shit even if no one else knows it
This scene demonstrates to me the divide between a scholar and an artist. A scholar knows what has already been written. An artist is leaving the room entirely.
No a snob is someone who boasts about him being a learned fellow and refuses to admit when he's wrong - ie when he argued with the tour guide earlier in the movie and said "I think you're mistaken" even though turns out she was right (I looked it up). My mum's an academic, and she always reminds me "Knowledge should make us humble, not arrogant".
He’s a snob because of his constant expressions of pedantry throughout the movie. He uses the knowledge he has acquired for the sole purpose of telling and showing other how much he knows. He aims to raise himself up (and in the process put others down) by showing off intellectually.
I always crack up at the “see her...saw her” lol
And thats how you stand up to an Art snob, lol!

@@thedogmanshow6810 that maybe true but gil was never as pompous as paul

He forgot to drop his mic
Someone with talents animate that.
His wife was a hater
Also a cheater.
I absolutely loved how he told her they were done at the end... bye bitch.
Fiancee
@@thekububeach uh... Former fiancee I'm sure... Lol
Thank goodness she wasn't his wife. If she can't support him as a fiancee, I'd hate to see her as his wife.

I wonder if Paul's description is the correct one in real life haha
best ever movie by allen. even when ive been always partial to Deconstructing Harry
Match Point was equally good. His top two films.
@@plumeria66 gotta watch
Hilarious scene! Love it
i love how Gil straight up sounds like the art teacher from Smart History.... that alone makes me feel like i can believe in him ;D
woody allen is amazing lol
0:03. I think this scene is funny b/c: Woody Allen picked a whimsical painting, which is almost a stick-figure.
The pic is so weird, its funny how ppl loves it
That's called putting the trash in its place.
Classic movie

Wait is that Micheal Sheen?

So a snob is a snob because he is a learned fellow? He'll, I'm proud to be a snob.
A snob is a learned fellow who is also a dick about it. Don't be a snob you dick.
But the thing is that all the info he gives is a little bit wrong, he just makes it sound right
hill billy
