    When I was a kid back in high school. We would skip school and whoever was the oldest would go and buy beer and we would head to the river. Great memories

    Excellent black and whites, especially the one at the gas station, reminds me of Ansel Adams' work. I love his photography. I like to virtually travel through channels like yours, and I love the pictures you're snapping, so I've subscribed and clicked the bell. I've been to this town virtually through Sightseeing Sally's channel and it's always nice for a different perspective.

      Thank you very much for the sub! I’m a fan of Sally’s too so I need to go see what she said about this town

    ❤ this! The area around that old hotel was ripe for rocking & reading a good book. I grew up near the MS River, and I loved sitting on the bank & watching the barges. I remember the ExxonMobil barges were much faster than others & would create some nice ripples!

    Being from Chicago I've always been fascinated with the southern portion of our state,the topography,small towns,people,food,just spectacular. I would love to own those 2 old gas stations and restore them.

      It's a sight. All the way through southern il to Indiana and Kentucky are the same way. You can get off on many exits and see abandoned gas stations, barns that's are about to fall apart. When you live around here you learn to appreciate it for what it is and what it once was.

    First time I've been on a ferry ride! I'm amazed by the detail in opening shot of the window. Excellent! I absolutely love the image of the old gas station at 4:21. It looks like everything came together for that one. I love all the old buildings that you photograph. I'm curious if those images have any commercial value or if it's more of a personal project/passion (just being nosy). It looks like you had a great road trip. Thanks for taking us along!

    • @Keithdotson
      @Keithdotson  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Terry -- it's OK to be nosy! I sell more prints of abandoned buildings (architecture in general) than you might think. Believe me I wondered the same when I started shooting these subjects -- but as with all the things I sell, they typically are bought when the buyer has a personal connection -- for example I sold several Hushpuckena prints to a woman as a gift for her elderly father who grew up in that little town. She also gave me some great historical insights. Occasionally, I sell one to someone who apparently just likes it. I've learned not to second-guess what is commercial and just post the images that I love, because you just never know what will appeal to someone. Some of my "sure-fire winners" have never sold a single print. (PS -- Also the book still selling, that's the most accessible place for most people to admire these images)

    4.38 Red painted concrete block building - I remember these blocks in NZ. DIY project builders bought those very same moulds and made their own concrete bricks - commonly used to build a car garage - all gone now.

    Sadly, it seems that all of the people who went to college, came to the Washington, DC metro area after graduating. The place has imploded. If I still had any roots in North Missouri, I would grab a few acres of land, but all of my people are here.
