Why Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch SUCKS…

  • The Nintendo Switch should be able to run Minecraft Bedrock Edition perfectly, fine, right? Like, anything can run MCBE... or so I thought. Even mid to low end tablets can run Pocket Edition (MCPE) better than it. This video is a criticism of the Switch, and I discuss why Minecraft (and other games) should probably run better than they actually do. I discuss things like game performance, how un-user friendly things like Switch Online and the lack of custom skins or PVP texture packs, and I even 1v1 some of the best Nintendo Switch players. All of this commentary, over some RTX Minecraft cinematics and some Nintendo Switch Hive and Cubecraft Skywars gameplay.

As a Nintendo switch Minecraft player since the legacy edition for the Switch and 2,530 hours. I can confirm that I it takes forever to load, BUT since the latest update and downloading minecraft directly to the system memory the loadings times are way reduced only a min to load.
With the bugs were you get an invalid session I just swap from local play then back to online by pressing y. Also, I have to reconnect my account once or twice a month.
Forget about having a long term single player world, I have a 250 mb world it lags so frigging much and crashes every 10 min. Sometimes I can't even open chests or open UI without it crashing its rlly bad.
I have beat my friends on pcs butterfly clicking and I absolutely Destroy them that's the 2k hours. I probably won't be very good bc the friggen game won't work in the latest version. So yeah...

Bedrock on consoles is just pretty shoddy in general (I've had it literally hard crash my Xbox on numerous occasions)
If you compare it to their Console Edition contemporaries the difference in performance and stability can be shocking.
Mojang needs to make some heavy optimisation on Bedrock for consoles and it's crazy that it's been like 6 years since Better Together and many of the issues that people reported then still exist.

What really annoys me is how you can't get the Legacy Console Edition version of Minecraft on Switch anymore since it had no physical release and the digital is of course delisted. One thing I always wanted to play but couldn't because I didn't have a Wii U was the Minecraft Super Mario Mashup Pack, and so when I got Minecraft Bedrock for the Switch (I didn't get my switch in time to get the Legacy Console version) I was excited to finally play it. But it turns out it's completely BROKEN in Bedrock, many of the redstone contraptions like the Yellow Switch Palace don't work, the vanilla villages are deserted, some of the features are flat-out missing, and the infinite world generation being applied by force even though the original pack didn't use it messes up several things (Delfino Plaza is literally SNOW-COVERED, and the ocean there is FROZEN, like WHAT?!) and also causes a lot of lag and makes the game dip into _30fps_ at the edges of the map where the new terrain starts for some reason. So that was all a massive disappointment, and because they delisted the Legacy Console version for some reason (which I still don't understand, Bedrock is so different that it can't be a perfect replacement and keeping it up on the shop wouldn't harm Mojang financially because either way the user is still paying them to play Minecraft) I can't actually play the map as it was intended to be played anymore unless I get a Wii U. Both versions should be available to buy on Switch (or any system that has both, tbh).

The Bedrock on Switch experience has actually gotten worse over the years, and I bought Minecraft the day it came out on Switch, so the hardware is definitely underpowered but really it’s a lack of optimization problem, and the session bugs are not the Switch’s fault, it’s their buggy engine.

    @minecraftplayer1439 Před rokem +37

I agree with the fact that minecraft isnt the greatest on the nintendo switch, and that is is definitely underpowered, but one of the main reasons to get a switch in the first place isnt to mainly play games using super high graphics, but to play the games that are exclusive to the switch, like mario odyssey, botw, splatoon 3 for example. the example you gave comparing minecraft on a switch to a cheaper android tablet did show the performance difference vs the price difference between the two, but the android tablet isnt able to natively run probably around 99% of the games the switch has to offer (btw 2018 switches can actualy run android in a way without jailbreaking the switch). yes you can use an emulator on android, but unless you own those games you intend to play on it in a legal way which will cost you money, you either have to pirate, or not use the emulator at all. also people playing minecraft on the switch probably would just be looking to play survival are creative mode in singleplayer or with their friends, but probably the featured servers which are pretty much just cashgrabs. dont forget that the nintendo switch is made to be portable, and with its size its not very easy to fit powerful gpu with performance near the xbox series x or ps5, and its intended for the casual gamer, just like the wii was , and dispite it having much worse performance than its competitors at the time, it sold way better than all of them. and tbh, its kinda unfair to judge a console by the way it can run minecraft.

ive always done pvp on my switch because its what i started playing servers on. Due to the low fps , i have got so used to it that when i play on my friends pc , it is so difficult. I also use a pro controller which are very similar to average console controllers. These controllers have a very big input delay which again, i get used to and when playing on other platforms it is SO HARD. But it isnt too hard for me on switch but the things about loading and invalid session are easily fixable. I looked it up and found a video somewhere. Maybe u could find it and share in a next video. Great video btw potato !!

I used to play minecraft exclusively on the switch, and I have experienced all of these bugs. Back when I played (1.16), it was tolerable enough to get used to and pretty good at. But with all of the huge updates in the past years, I feel that its gotten much worse. Maybe I'm just mad because I can't play my old survival world that I spent 100s of hours on because of 1.18.

The Switch also has a huge problem with running out of disk space on the Switch for your local personal Minecraft worlds. You are only allowed to use a small part of disk space and with the newer taller terrains in 1.18 you use up your small allotment of memory space very quickly. Thee Switch limits how much disk space each game is allowed to use on the console with no exceptions.

So I am writing this as a switch player so I have been playing Minecraft on switch for almost 3 and a half years now and I think I am an above average player to be humble but I belive u have a lot of good takes on this topic and presented this topic very Wvery well, but here are some of my takes on this as a switch players
So fps this is a very weird its either good or bad but if you would like I can share some settings for better fps but it will just mostly come down to memory at the end, plus the capture card will rlly nerf ur fps so I don't use it
Skill so this will just be up to the person and dedication I have trained for many hours days weeks months to be good at switch but this will come down to your dedication and will power to previel and not give up and I personally believe I am above average player on switch
Texture packs and skins so this is bad in general but there are some amazing packs out their for good prices the 3 I use are the following; PvP Bold Vannila, Slime!, and Novel Pvp but for skins it can be difficult to find skins but if you look carefully through skin packs some skins in certain packs will be free to use so that option is there
Controls this will again come down to preferences and the player with the basic controls I think they r alr but there a few basic things I changed just to adjust it and make it better but u can have it as what ever u want and belive is better for u (feel free to ask me for my controls)
The game play so with this as shown is bad but that's due to the capture card which very badly effects how the game will run personly I don't use the capture card I just use the clipping system for clips I also belive the capture card is very expensive and I don't feel that it's worth it to buy it but u do u, but the gameplay can be very good at times and personally I get very good fps just not on cubecraft
This is all I'm going to cover in this comment but if u have questions feel free to ask me but goodbye thanks for reading
(Ps: hey potato I don't wanna seem like I'm very desperate to be in a vid but if u would like to do some sort of interview with me I'm perfectly fine with it but if not that's alright too so have a good rest of ur day) if anyone wants to contact me with questions my discord is: NEON SHAPES#4783

Lot of it comes down to optimization and future updates. I feel like it’s a good even split with the Nintendo hardware and devs not willing to do extra optimization work to keep it stable.
One example of a game that also fits this narrative is GTA V for PS4 and Xbox One. The online portion received so many updates that even those systems are struggling with 15-20 fps and it’s breaking the single player a bit with more apparent bugs that never were an issue before hand.
I’m still impressed by the magic that devs casted on the switch with some of the ports. Witcher, Wolfenstein, Doom, several other AAA games that seem impossible.

I loved playing locally with friends on pocket edition throughout my childhood, so the fact that I could finally play online with my friends who were on Xbox, made me very excited. And once I finally could it was so much fun... when I was finally able to get into the game. All the problems you outlined were so ridiculously common to points where it could take me up to half an hour to properly start playing sometimes. The biggest problem being the signing out of my Microsoft account, because sometimes I'd have to sign in on another device several times before it actually signed me in on the Switch, not to mention how slow the game ran. It got to a point where I was so mad at this in about 2020 I think and I was trying to get onto minecraft of the switch and I just went 'screw this', and within a few minutes bought an Xbox One off ebay. I have a switch all that and I had a mod on my Nintendo world to make the whole world out of TNT. Plus I made a huge block of TNT on top of that world and I exploded it and by the time I was finished exploding it took about 10 minutes in the whole world was destroyed, I think it has a pretty decent processor. I don’t know though because that was the switch I had to switch or lead so I don’t know if mine has a better processor than the original switch. Although it did struggle it didn’t crash the game at all it just lagged so much to the point where I like couldn’t do anything you just have to wait it out.

As someone who used to play mc on the switch, it is definitely intended for the casual Minecraft experience, or more specifically the survival experience. Because I am more of a survival player, I had a lot more fun that someone who wants to pvp. I think with that mindset the switch version is alright. However it gets very laggy as more updates gets added, and I really don’t see the situation getting better.
