    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Lord Burgendy Agreed, the stuff is awful, even for the money. But how is "I dig it man, I dig it." (@8:35) "giving it justice"? Either this guy has a weak palate, or he's a shill.
Sommelier Level infinity is meaningless because our palates, i.e. how well we can taste, are in fact genetic. Just like with athleticism or intellect, palates can be trained, but only to a very limited extent.
At this point Ralfy's is the only channel I've found that's passed the JW is shite test. Which is a fact, but only for those with naturally strong palates. Believe me, I'd rather enjoy the shite.

I love the flavor profile of JW Black. I get the citrus and pepper, but I also get tobacco leaf and the faintest hint of chocolate. Those latter flavors are actually more dominant for me. The only issue I have with it is it gets old quick. I never have more than one pour of it at a time. Its a great occasional pour.

Oneofdazzz JW Black goes for about $35-40 where I live. Double Black is about $50, Green is about $70, Gold is $80, Platinum runs about $100, and Blue is about $170. Good old Red Label is about $25, plastic stickers on the bottle and all.

Great video. I just really started getting into whisky late last year and Black was the first serious bottle I ever bought (I maintain the Fireball that's been sitting in my cupboard is my wife's and is only ever used to pour into a glass of hard apple cider). I remember it being a very pleasing experience into whisky. I've moved onto other styles but Black will probably hold that "first lovers" place in my heart. I'm going to have to try the Green when I get a chance.

Thanks for the review if the Johnnie's, it really goes to show how much pellets vary from bastard to bastard. My go to out of the the three is the double black which I find smokeier than the green. When I bought the green I was disappointed because of the price I paid, and the fact that it was very malty and very sutle on the smoke. Check this out , so what I did was grab a my bottle of coal ila 12 peated of course, and put a spash into the green and wow!! I know the green say's it has coal ila in it already, but I could only find a hint of the talisker smoke. I think the coal ila the say on the bottle of the green is UN peated yikes, just my opinion try what I did. It will shock you magnificently!
P.S. the double black is only 5 more dollars than the Black at total wine.

It’s funny watching this, because a few months ago I went to the liquor store specifically for scotch. JW was the only one I could think of, so I had my mind made up before buying it. I had a bit of extra money so bought a bottle of Monkey Shoulder as well, both for around $30. I was surprised to find at how friendly the JW was, and compared to the Monkey Shoulder I preferred the MS over JW. It took me awhile to become acclimated to the JW after the MS. Love your videos guys!

Just found your channel after getting into whiskey after having a flight at a local steakhouse. Jameson black barrel was my favorite whiskey from the flight. I immediately went out and bought a bottle. This is the first whiskey I actually enjoyed drinking straight / neat.
Now that I’m trying to expand my cabinet and palette, I’m making it a point to pick up a new bottle every couple of weeks. Durning my last trip to Costco, I stumbled on a deal they had on Johnnie Walker: $12 off two bottles. I picked the green and double black. Got the green for 45 and dB for 28. After discount I got them both for about $60.
I tried them both when I got home and they are a lot more aggressive than the Jameson black barrel. It’s gonna take some time for me to warm up to these, but I don’t hate them.

Both the Black and Double Black are good, but I prefer the Double Black for it's smokier nose and more oaky taste and viscous texture. Haven't tried the Green Label yet, it's surely something I look forward to. And about the Label names - yes indeed, the Black was introduced before the Green and that's why the smokier name was already taken. The Black was the second product after the classic Red Label they started making. I am guessing they are somewhat trying to fix this difference in names and the expectation they create with the Double Black and it's smokiness.

My only experience with Johnny Walker Black was at a country club I was at for an event. It was super watery tasting. Probably due to the pour spout lid the bottle had. It was disappointing, but I was kind of expecting that. Should have just gotten Jameson.

I drink red label all the time. I do like the way it tastes. I have it on the rocks but i really like the black label too. To much in fact have not tried the green label but i think i will cause of this video. I just subbed and i have watched quiet a few of your videos. I like scotch whisky a lot, i tried going back to an old kentucky whiskey and i was ruined. It just tasted bad i don't know why funny thing though, i mixed a little bit of red label and that kentucky whiskey and it surprisingly was pretty good. I wouldn't do that all the time but i was experimenting 😀.

Daniel, I think your glorious Viking ways has been rubbing off on Rex a tad.I found your channel because of Ralfy's channel due to the shout out you gave him to help him get up to 100 subs. You guys are rockin it as well! 86k+ in a year is some insane growth a long with Whiskey biscuits. Congratulations! Love what your doing, and keep up the great work!

Double Black is $30 cheaper per bottle than Green Label in my area...typically people suggest the Double Black over the Green because for the price they're very close...I'm a JW Black fan, and I'm waiting for my bottles of Double and Green to show up...

+Johnny Cliche - "typically people suggest the Double Black over the Green because for the price they're very close" Uh. . . No. Double black is smoky, peaty, definitely with roots in Islay. Green is more balanced with a lean toward Speyside style whisky.

Just had my first try of Green Label... It is a whisky that doesn't know what it wants to be. Black Label on the other hand does, and makes for a cheap regular go-to in between single malts.

I think given the popularity and flagship status that Johnnie Walker has, i would like to see a video dedicated to JW that atleast includes the staples of Red, Black, Double Black, Green, Gold, Platinum & Blue. Special versions like Swing or Ghosts & Rare or etc, could be left off (given their pricier and/rarer nature) unless they want to include them.

I got to try the black label along with this video. Never been a scotch fan but I can appreciate it much better now. I can get the smokey, peppery and slight green apple but all I can taste is smoke
Maybe I'll find a scotch I'll eventually drink every now and then, until then I'll keep getting bourbon.

Consider two items. One that tastes like vegetation, grain and earth. The other tastes like dust, smoke and leather. Which item is green?
Your description of the tastes (@ 07:30) of each is in perfect harmony with the labeling in my opinion.

    hi
a friend is going to get married in a few months and both him and his future wife enjoy drinking.
up until now their favourite scotches are JW green label (got mixed experiences with gold label), glenfiddich 15 & glenfiddich 18
i want to surprise them with something fancy but similar to those ones in taste so they would still like it
my budget would be 200$-250$ max per bottle.
got any ideas of what can i get them?
    Thank you :D

For all the nonsense in this video, I have to give them credit for getting the bottom line correct. Johnnie Walker Green is the best value of the line by far. They discontinued it for about a few years, but fortunately they reintroduced it a couple of years ago. I generally stick to single malts, but Johnnie Walker Green is an exception. I believe it is the only one in the line that is 100% malt whisky, and I think that makes a big difference. When they discontinued it, I bought several bottles. I'm glad they brought it back.
