I’ve been getting really into this game recently because I saw it was on sale. Turns out you can actually beat him in five hits. After each of his wave/beam attacks it gives you just enough time to charge. If you can maintain it you can smack him and he’ll go down in one shot for phases 1-3. Phase 4 takes two charges but it is significantly easier to find a window to charge due to the long charge time on the blast of the 6 or seven parry attack.

My interpretation of this character, based on the in-game info and stuff:
    1) Rider arrives/crashes on planet ruining towns and killing people.
    2) Rider gets subdued, people realise his op regeneration powers and enact a plan to imprison him for indefinite ammount of time, until they figure things out.
    3) A call for guardians is made, "top-notch killers and fighters", as The Voice mentions. People who would be strong enough to 1v1 him if needed to.
    4) A certain aspiring "hero", gets accepted as one of the guardians. Prison is built.
    5) Having been a witness to martial prowess that rider has, seeing all the damage he brought, realising his "outsider/alien" (The Stranger) status, this guardian becomes obsessed with him.
    6) He adopts/tries to simulate rider's combat style while at the same time desiring to upstage him in it, basically become this planet's "version" of rider, but better in everything. Hence his visual similiarities, even head/chin accessory.
    7) As time passes by, he adopts the name/becomes known as The Edge.
    8) As rider battles The Edge, guardian reluctantly realises that he can't beat rider at his own game after all. So, being a weapons master he is, he decides to use his original/older style he has been known for/accepted as guardian in the first place. Welcome the oar coupled with fiery attacks.

You also cannot take things too quickly, attacking when it isn't safe is an insane risk and may just be what he needs to start a beat down, even if you do a full combo is entirely impossible and if you keep hitting him you will end up dead again. I love the background story telling in this boss fight and the one after it. its like they expected you (the in game charter) to fight this guy and die and the way the boss after him reacts is almost like she never ever planned for you to get to her but this dude was prepping all his life to fight just you for some reason and the girl after him is just some random chick.

"Give me something memorable, that I can learn from, that will make me better"
He says this even during his desperation phase, he doesn't want to win, he wants you to surpass him, he can only reach further if faced with someone better than him. He was given infinite time, and he used it to train. Finally dead, you know for damn sure the first thing he would have done in the great beyond is continue to improve, patching up all the weaknesses the Stranger found and then waiting for his next challenge

Whenever I was on any previous boss, or any after (besides the Beat) I felt angry, whenever I was killed or hurt. I felt mad. They just keep goading me with every shot, being condescending, unrelenting assholes, a constant torrent of shit-talking coming out of their mouth. On the Edge, I felt defeated. He was so fucking chill. So cool about everything, yet he absolutely dunks my shit in on every fight. But he constantly cheers you up, motivates you, pushes you forward. "Try to stay with me through this."
He was one of the three (being the Voice, the Beat, and him) who pushed me on to keep going against the hardest boss I've faced, after constantly dying over and over again. "Excellence is not an art, it's pure habit. We are what we repeatedly do."
R.I.P. Paddle Daddy. I hope he's happy that in death, he saved the world.

Remember this, no one is truly invincible. No matter how many times they beat you down, you need to get back up, smile at them and ask for seconds."

The oar was actually a reference to musashi. He supposedly carved a wooden sword from an oar during a boat trip to an island, which he then used for a duel on the shore. Which is why the oar phase takes place on a dock.

I loved this game didn't like Sekiro. The way Furi does difficulty always makes me feel like I'm improving and progressing whereas Sekiro just says "fuck off and go fight these same monsters for the tenth time to get back to where you were and then die right away once you get back". It just wasn't fun, I didn't feel like I was progressing, no rush of combat, just annoyance. Furi never annoyed me a single time, nothing ever felt unbeatable. Not because it's easier but because it's designed better.

Definitely the best boss in Furi. He's got a simple, but great arena, with a slight change in the next phase. Changes up his arsenal in said next phase, so it's different and unexpected. When you do down, he doesn't talk down but gives words of encouragement, trying to get you to fight at your best. And the music, it's way more somber than the last boss with it's high octane action, so this is a welcome surprise. He's still leagues better than the last 2 bosses... yeesh.

I see a lotta people say that he should've used 2 katana for the second phase instead of just an oar, BUT
1: his design is based on what samurais looked like, and they always had 2 katana, each one for a different purpose, they were NOT supposed to be dual wield
2: the second phase occur on a tight but long space, and in that type of space, range is the best thing you can ever have! Because they cant go around you, you only have to care about what's forward. And since a oar have far better range than a katana, it's actually better in this set
3: if you've gotten through the first phase, it mean that he got predictable to you and you managed to parry most of it's attacks, and since he switch weapon he also switch it's whole set of animation attack, making him unpredictable again!
It might sound weird or dumb but it wasnt a bad idea at all!

    • @lafrenchone649
      @lafrenchone649 Před 2 lety +2

I might be wrong here, but it looks like The Edge was based at least in part off of Miyamoto Musashi, a famous Japanese swordsman who, in one of his most famous duels, killed his opponent with a sharpened oar. Food for thought, I suppose.
