This music is complex stuff . Punk in spirit with expert musicianship .
Chaz ankle had to be the funkiest white guy to ever exist
**Jankel **
Ian was the only Do It Yourself-er. The band were all seasoned professionals. Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks were proper punks, according to Ian's doctrine- self-taught have-a-go merchants (who were great).
@@annother3350 Indeed, he wrote (and recorded) Ai No Corrida, a hit for Quincy Jones, but Dance of the Screamers on Do It Yourself, is as funkeee as it gets for this Essex Boy
@@charliecroker7005 And he himself had been round the block before The block heads having been in Kilburn and The High roads since 1971 , i was watching the Madness documentary on Sky arts last night suggs cited K&THR as a main influence on Madness .
And The Blockheads were one very tight band.
Magnificent... These guys kept me going through my teenage years. So sad when Charlie and Ian died, but the remaining Blockheads are still going strong! Imagine finding one in your laundry basket ;-) Oi Oi!
We're all Blockheads too...
"And pissing in your swimming pool ! ! !" 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Well said
Yes, helped me thru challenging times in my 20s... and again now.
And what a great photograph.
I saw them on the Stiff Tour to Essex Uni in about 1978. The one Elvis Costello bottled out of for some reason...
Played pinball all afternoon with two blockheads then saw the gig right at the front in the middle. Tightest band and Ian with charisma to burn.
Unforgettable.
Were you biology? Make a brain come back to life like.
Remember this broadcast. On watch in a radio room at the US navy facility at RAF Brawdy, Wales. Had the next couple of days off. Went into town and the record shop didn't have anything. Next day got on the train to Swansea. Mission accomplished. Same thing, different date with Elvis Costello. I could not have picked a better time to be there.
Haverfordwest wasn't the best place to go record shopping in those days!
Best punk singer by a distance. Ian Dury is responsible for turning me on to music, at the age of ten. Brilliant Peel session. Briiliant band. Genius singer.
I think of him more as the guy who's at the cross roads of ska, funk, and vaudeville. He definitely is a category all unto himself! RIP dear Ian.
Ian Dury had nothing to do with the original punk movement, just happened to come to prominence around the same time and shared some of the same sensibilities and anti establishment attitudes of punk. It was a very, very fertile time in British music.
two greats ian dury and john peel
This is just a big flash back to a time of brilliance , when we were young and daft and pissed/ experimenting!! and loving all this different music .
Saw them at the Roundhouse, Camden London, way back in 1977. They tore the house down. Ian had great stage presence.
Ian dury and the blockheads also funkmaster great!!!!!!!!
First saw them at Streatham Odeon when I was 15. Can't tell how many times after that. Still a Blockhead at 59 😁 a Blockhead forever! Oi oi
Me too and I'm 73l
A genius word smith with one of tightest bands every, pure genius wright!
Ian was the tops, saw him in 1978. Loving these tunes ( The Best) in Lockdown. Really Appreciate these Recordings thanks.
Blockheads Oi,Oi!
I was 12 and it was the begining of Punk for me. Jörg Strummer and 101er‘s came next …. Thanxs RIP Ian
Joe
Even my kids love this stuff now.Brilliant!
Vibracobra, you fucking beauty!
A genre and class of their own. Huge for me and my friends on release. Glad we were there. Good times/bad times.
Saw the Blockheads in '79 at the tender age of 15! My brother took me to the Michael Sobel Sports centre in north London. Remember the roof being some sort of canvas tent thing, and all our sweat condensing and dripping back on us all. FANTASTIC!! Dury was good too!!
What a wicked session, such a brilliant tight band and London's poet laureate. Some of the best gigs I ever saw.
There ain't half been some clevor bastards ! ! ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Never knew he did a session for Peel. He was an interesting character with a troubled background. Was watching the film about him on the telly recently and it brought tears to my eyes. I think he was genuine at heart despite all the aggro he caused. There's good in all of us and Ian had plenty in him. A loveable rogue. Very proud to share my name with him!
Andy Serkis played him to a tee. The right man for the role indeed.
He was a true diamond geezer & not a pencil squeezer ! ! ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@andrewhillis2269 True dat ! He took me to the cleaners, and other misdemeanours....
@@frankgoodall329 Although at least a foot taller, which somewhat diminished the fact that Ian was tiny in body but massive in spirit.
Fabulous concert at Mogador theater, Paris, back in 1979
Absolute genius and what a band, was only 9 yrs old when they recorded this, so a tad before my time. BUT ....First heard new boots and panties in 1989 and OMFG what an album....its in my top 3 albums of all time and would be first choice in my desert island discs!! Saw them at Finsbury Park at the first/original Madness reunion....drove 250 miles to see them and tho I think Madness are OK....Ian was the reason I bought that ticket!! Wasn't bothered about Madness by the time they hit the stage I'd seen who I wanted to see .RIP Ian. OI OI!!
Yeh he was ACE briliant at colne municipal hall pal STILL LOVE ❤️ the old GEEZER!❤️👍😎👍😎😍
Reminds of concerts when I saw him, one in particular when the audience all got up on stage and were all dancing around Ian, it was one big party with no rock star pretences.
R.I.P Ian. Sadly missed but fondly remembered
Class Utter Class.
I've met him he used to take disabled kids swimming wicked geezer ...and the blockheads wow
Having a bad day so came back here, thanks again
Absolute masters!
Still miss Ian, met the man in 77.Just a down to earth guy!! RIP!
I met him as well, maybe a later, and found him to be a real gentleman -- he was kind & generous to a new journalist who sported Elvis Costello-style eyeglasses and was wearing a suit. Called me "Clark Kent," but with a twinkle in his eye.
Saw Ian and the Blockheads at the old Capitol Theatre in Sydney in 1982 when they were on tour in Australia. Brillo.
All the parts fit together perfectly.
Excellent
Miss old Ian, a gentleman and a scholar.
Absolutely stunning band god bless you Ian you were one in a million👏👊🙏🏻
This version of Sex & . . . . . . . is actually my favourite. It's got one foot in the Sly Stone camp somehow.
I'll give you that
Very funky 👍
yes, and aspart from the Sly influence, it is riddled with Average White Band-isms. Beautiful, and lovely the way it glides in on the same groove with Clever Trevor.
@@deejannemeiurffnicht1791 yeah, you're right. You're a musician arent't you too?
Yep....all on the one...
i cannot beleive the lack of likes on this lead..ffs its ian dury...
Keep rocking great VibraCobra23
Thanks for all your shares
fucking brilliant Punk rocker.. RIP Ian
This stuff ages like a fine wine. I'd forgotten how terribly, terribly good they were. Thanks for uploading this
Fucking brilliant
Thanks for uploading this sounds great. The world of music and art is not the same without Ian. I have always thought it ironic that Ian's name, Ian Dury, sounds very much like a play on the word injury, considering the physical damage that Polio left him with. I am surprised that no one has ever picked up on his word play sounding name. R.I.P Lord Upminster.
never thought about that but its intresting
great, injury.
thoughtful.
Cool !
@@martinleyssenaar1032 ooooh! just got it!

So London, so British. Real British.
They don't make em like they used to....My late brother met Ian backstage many many moons ago and. took his t-shirt of and signed it for him.Still love his music
I heard this session when I was 13 laid in bed late at night with my headphones on when it was first broadcast, been a Blockhead ever since... Geniuses the lot of them...
Damn, that was soooo good!
Fabulous music, thanks for posting. Favourite artist. Good time for you
Wake up.... Was always my favourite
This is so good. Rock on!
This has really nourished my soul! Thanks for the upload!
This is great!
the greatest English lyric writer ever
Shane McGowan is better.
I love Ian Dury, and the Blockheads, what an amazing band. He was undoubtedly a genius-level writer and his Lyrics are up there on the higher end of the spectrum. However, it's a stretch to imply he wrote goodder English even dan moi.
@@FFM0594 McGowan was Irish, but I take your point......Personally for me, the music may not be for everyone, but the greatest English lyricist has to be Mark E Smith

I’m a big fan of the Fall, but I have mixed feelings about Smith’s lyrics.
They’re always full of great images, original similes, and great verbal rhythms.
But they’re so cryptic much of the time, built up of private references and bits and bobs of ephemeral cultural references. Fall records ought to come with footnotes.
@@FFM0594 Who?
I must admit to being a little chagrined when I bought New Boots & Panties. I got a very strange look from the sales clerk. But the first verse of Wake Up and Make Love to Me is hilarious.
“I come awake / With a gift for womankind / You’re still asleep / But the gift don’t seem to mind”. Priceless.
At there best, great band🎼🎼🎼🎼❤️🐸
Ian and Vivian we miss you more and more very day
Reasons to be Cheerful Part 3 single consistently features in DJ Top 20's. No surprise there.

Oh, those Fair Oaks days. Cleaning up and running out before the creepers come to get me.
Enjoyed listening to vibracobra version of John Peel. I could never afford to buy all the eps. I managed to get a few it seems
Ian dury was a coolio 😎
Too was his blockheads 😎
I myself struggle to write lyrics to my songs, Ian did it with ease..to him it was like breathing.. In and out.. Giving it clout!! Who's a clever boy then? they shout!
