  • The Métis Nation of Ontario has voted to oust more than 5,000 citizens from its roll due to incomplete applications for citizenship.
MNO President Margaret Froh says the province-wide vote came under the direction of the membership.
    That's on Nation to Nation.

There are no Métis in our territory, in our homeland … If you’re an Indigenous person in N’dakimenan (their word for the region) … you are Teme-Augama Anishnabai. You are not Métis.”

The metis people existed before Red River. And before louis riel ever rebelled.

To my knowledge there were NO land scripts in Ontario.

The MNO citizens who are still legitimate and not being removed generally are descended from scrip that was granted in Manitoba/Saskatchewan. Alternatively, descendants of historic-present Métis communities that did not receive scrip but can prove their legitimacy in other ways, like the Sault Ste Marie area community did in the Powley case.

Isn’t it interesting a country that fought against apartheid in South Africa is implementing here now. Weird that people think this is fine.

So you admit it is all about your identity. Identity politics is apartheid. Glad you agree with me. Nice to know 2 babies born side by side tonight and one claims their identity is somehow superior. Unbelievable but then again this is Canada now where people want to create division with identity politics and apartheid @@ChristianFerguson-iv6vh

Ignorant comment. Stop parroting things you have zero knowledge of. The eastern Ontario metis community predates red river. This is simple historic fact.

I know I am Métis my family are Lucier. They sat on Riel’s Council and we are also from the Ross Clan who sat on the Riel Council. My cousins ancestry goes back to Louis Riel’s Aunt thru the LaRiviere Family.

So is Powely on the removal list ? Self determination means coming to Canada and deciding if you want to be a Canadian citizen, Metis citizen, Cree citizen, etc. This does not make any sense especially when Powely stated he is not Metis but self determined as Metis.

Batise said he doesn't see much to discuss.
"We have no axe to grind with what we would consider legitimate Métis claims - the Red River settlements and places where they were and they can prove they had substantial and distinct communities," he said.
"Our issue is there are none in Ontario. There are none especially in the spaces that we occupy as our traditional land."

@@waldorph East to West. Is Ontario east of Saskatchewan? Yes. Metis didn't exist without European descent, which arrived in Canada east to west. A little from the north in James Bay. Still Ontario.

White French Canadians came west, and married the FN people they traded with. Only those lines that did that are metis, and only those that trace descent from the ancestors recognized as Metis with scrip, signing treaties, or serving in the resistance movements are RR Metis, everyone else who is seeking recogntiion needs to seek it from the First Nations who's ancestral territory they find themselves in. That means you MNO and MNBC@@hermestrismegistus5384
