- Chapter 1 of a series talking about my 2019 IAPLC work, Amano-Gawa. This video will be going through the ideas, inspiration, and study for the layout. This work is recreating the nature of a Japanese stream. The title, Amano-Gawa, means "Milky Way Galaxy", or literally "Heaven's River" in Japanese, but here instead refers to Takashi Amano-- "Amano's River," a layout with all Japanese species of plants and prominently featuring Riccia + Hairgrass, the combination popularized by Mr. Amano.
IAPLC - Rank 15th

Just found your channel and binged all your videos. It's awesome that you're taking the time to do this. The perspective of a competitional aquascaper is something thats missing online, making it difficult to get information and inspiration, especially in areas where competitional aquascaping is not well known.
I really appreciate what you're doing and the content you're creating.
Thank you! More to come soon!
Hey Steve, I wanna thank you for making these videos. I really do appreciate your insights. Keep them coming!
Thank you! Will be making more post IAPLC!
Thank you for the video, and the knowledge. I never realized how much inspiration you can get from a single photo. It's crazy how you saw the picture that inspired your tank and created something incredible from it. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Jerry. The thing to remember on that topic is that it's not all about a person's skill in analyzing pictures... I'd say 70% of it is just keeping your antennae up-- be always actively on the look out for inspiration to take to your next aquascape. When you do that, then when you find the thing you're looking for it clicks. It's more of an accumulation inside your mind, a slow build up of work, rather than just the skill/talent/etc. of the individual. Little bit of effort stacking up on itself.
@@SteveScapesYT Thank you for taking the time to give me advice. I'm actually in the process of planning a rescape for my first planted tank, and soaking up all this knowledge is very helpful. I have been looking for inspiration, but more from people's works rather then nature itself. I will definitely look out more, thanks again!
Thanks for sharing !
Been waiting for this :D
Thanks for waiting! I just got back from the Shanghai CIPS contest- couldn’t access CZcams there.
Absolutely gorgeous scape mate! Really beautiful work. I am trying to aquascape by myself, but at the same time breed my fancy guppies in these tanks. Love your videos, I wis one day I will be able to visit Japan :) keep it up!
Thanks dude! Good luck with your guppies~~

@@SteveScapesYT cool, can't wait for ur next content
None of the tanks by Handa and Hong are really competition tanks IMO as are the tanks in the ADA gallery. They are great nature aquariums don't get me wrong but that is a whole other category. Some funny business going on with their placing or just an overcorrection against the diorama style. I prefer your 2019 work to the previous year even though I'm biased towards wood dominated layouts. You really nailed the lines and proportions which gives a great sense of scale and flow and it looks very natural. The use of that orange juncus repens looking plant (species?) that bend with the water current is really nice.
Potamogeton gayi. Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the scape! (Have a short film on the finished layout too)
