Good stuff. I may end up forgetting some of this, but I'll never forget that static burnin' down a road I've yet to know. MMMmmm.

Hahaha I was about to say that

Those lyrics are inspiring me to write love her voice and the song.
😂😂😂😂😂
This is now my favorite video on CZcams, but the only word I have left in my vocabulary is "staaatic"
Haha holy crap, the whole video I was thinking, “wtf is she saying here!?!?” Mystery solved.
Me as well my friend..lol
Somewhere around the 28th minute i started hearing "phtaaaatic".
"Steady" I heard.
This mixing type is really as professional as it gets, teaching us completely free too. We are so lucky to live in a generation where knowledge is so omnipresent, thanks a lot to whoever taught us techniques people study to learn completely for free!
Watched this video before going to bed. Woke up the next morning singing 'Staaaatic.....'
same here HAHAHAHA
STAAAAAATIC. mmmmmmmmMMMMMM
Thought it was "Steady"
I love the before and after in the beginning you don’t actually know how helpful that is.
As a moderate beginner, I don’t really know how to look up certain tutorials correctly, so by the time I get through the video, it ends up not even being what I was looking for. So keep that up and thanks!!
The trouble with so many of these videos is that most people just do not understand "teaching" or instructing. They not only speak and move through the content to fast or they have no clue as to methodology. You understand both i.e.you pause long enough to for the viewer to see where you're pointing which for novices or those unfamiliar with the digital world's jargon or this program's terminology. Good job, kid!!!!
this comment is kind of stupid when you can pause, rewind, slow down video speed...and much more on this here video and the platform it is posted on. you should consider your own part in the learning process. additionally. at any point you can look to other resources. like pause and look something up. you just made a comment that made you sound dumb af.
Wow. Never occurred to me to use the remove silence function to separate audio in individual regions for the gain automation. I was using the scissors tool. Thanks for the tutorial.
That tool is also fantastic for splitting up sounds to throw into EXS24 or Alchemy - that way you do it by regions rather than transients and get exactly what you want.
Same 🤦🏾♂️
NMS no more struggle neither
@@oshane1231 Neither do I. I have the latest version. I'm sure it's here. I'll have to root around some more.

This is by far THE BEST vocal mixing tutorial available on CZcams! You covered everything so clearly and with such enthusiasm that I never started to dose off. I did notice that you didn't cover pitch correction, but maybe you have a singer with perfect vocals.
Man, I'm so upset that I wasted so much money on plugins that promised to do exactly what you accomplished with the stock plugins. =(
I was about to right this down, but i went look for someone that did it first! is in facy the best video, kinda change my life!
pitch correction typically isn't a part of "mixing", and would happen during the editing phase.
Why would you use pitch correction?
This was really helpful! I've just been slapping on EQ, Compressor, and Reverb and calling it a day, but I know I need to step up my game.
This is insanely helpful, thank you. As a beginner, it’s great to have such a comprehensive tutorial, especially one that only uses native plugins
The most difficult thing for me was the compression, but now i find it much easier to do. Thank you so much for making this video
Awesome! Glad it helped.
@@masteringcom czcams.com/video/MQ1WtmHBP0s/video.html
The subtle difference between EQ bands is crazy..my hearing is going to get so much more finetuned doing this. These tips have already helped a ton with my mix so thank you!
Vocal automation has been driving me crazy, I always end up creating weird volume jumps that sound totally off. But this video has made me realize I was doing it at the very START of the vocal chain, when in fact I should've been doing it post-compression and EQ. This has been a game changer! Hoping I find it easier now.
I’m a singer, but I’m a one man show so production is a huge part of my time. I’ve done 100 videos on CZcams and I thought I was pretty decent with logic.
2 minutes in and I already learned something extremely useful I never knew. You earned yourself a sub!
Awesome! Glad we could help!
2:30 in and mind already blown- remove silences! Haha I’ve been manually doing it for ages, rookie! Thanks a lot MoaM!
For me, reverb is the one thing I struggle with most. Thank you so much for this simple and elegant tutorial!
I love this tutorial because allot of people believe stock plugins can't get the job done right and that's an insult to creators. Not saying stocks plugins are the best, but with the right ears and knowledge you can get the job done with a great sound!
I’ve been using logic for 2 years now but this video has taught me to use techniques that really do improve a track. Thank you so much man, love the video!
Now that's a real tutorial!
Compression I didn't understand but honesty its one of my favourite lessons ever thanks sir for the time
Just what I have been looking for. Thank you! 2 questions:
1. What is the best PAID vocal plugin do you recommend?
2. Do you have any tutorials on how to do this for voice-overs?
Dark & Twisted Izotope Nectar 3 is awesome.
Man this was so good. I wish someone stepped me through mixing vocals when I was younger! God bless the internet
the most challenging one is compression !!!!! aaaaaa thank you so much for this :')
Glad we could help!
Astounding to see you have an incredible technique to the way you teach music production. Im just amazed how much I learned watching one of your lessons than watching 4 videos of someone else explaining this. You have inspired me.
Glad to help!
Thanks for explaining this process the way that you did. most of the time people make tutorials thinking that everyone knows a certain amount or understands a certain level about whatever the tutorial is about and that will leave you confused or lost after watching. You did a great job of making things clear on all of your moves within logic pro. Once again thanks

we've got a real mvp over here. 👏
Dude thank you so much. I'm eternally grateful for everything you've taught me
No problem!
Best tutorial I’ve seen after watching a thousand + videos
The fact that you are giving clear, holistic reasoning with each action is incredibly helpful!
this one time we got to hear a little bit more than "static burnin down a road i ve yet to know. Mmhmm." was like a dream coming true i didn't know i have had!
If anyone cant find "remove silence", customize the toolbar by right clicking, and you will find it!
yeww cheers helped heaps
Condoleon Composition still cant Get it to appear?
Thanks .
Thank you!
thank you, although I can't find rts amongst the options
I followed that through whilst mixing my songs :) vocals stood right out smooth and well presented. I've got a greater understanding of how compressors are used, also I've never used or knew the phat fx was there. I've used bitcrusher to distort and add the rough edges to my voice, but phat fx is much better :) I only have and use the DAW pluggins. My theory is, if I can make a great sound from the stock pluggins, then I'm ready to explore far better pluggins. Thx really enjoyed this tutorial, it helped see another way of presenting vocals :)
Glad to help!

I wish I'd seen this video last week. I would have saved myself hours of getting nowhere! Thank you!
One of my challenges in mixing vocals is the consistency of the tone. Like the verses have a different tone and range, sort of, than the chorus. The chorus just feels like the vocal is sung too high, like belting. And even when I turn the gain down, it still has that belting tone. Any advice is appreciated! Awesome video by the way! Definitely saving this.
I definitely know what you mean. Try making separate tracks for the different sections of the song and splitting up the vocals between them. Obviously it can be really time consuming to go through this process multiple times, but you can just copy and paste the first track and then make slight tweaks to the others. To fix the belting tone, you might try cutting back in the midrange where you really get that beefiness--if that's what you're referring to. I've never actually tried that myself, it's just an idea. Personally I like vocals to have a good thickness in the midrange. Honestly there's only so much you can do though and ultimately the best way to get a good vocal is to have a good vocalist. I say this as a singer who spent years fussing with mixing my own voice with little satisfaction, only to eventually determine that I simply needed to get better at singing.
compression and adding color to my vocals was and IS the most challenge thing i'm encountering as of right now. I'm still a beginner really, getting into bussing, color addition (compression, saturation, delay, reverb, etc), and that's only vocals! because i'm into beat making as well. However, i believe those sleepless nights and days learning about this stuff will help me get somewhere. I know it.
One thing i’d like to comment on is the reduction of the makeup gain. Makeup gain drives the distortion, if i switch it on(like i almost always do) i compensate with the output gain. If i want more saturation, maybe i add 5db makeup and reduce the output to compensate.
Love that distortion feature. Really livens up my voice in a mix along with the sharpness of the Opto compressors. Thanks for these vids! My songs are almost coming alive!
if your gain isn't highlighted go to Preferences > Display > then check Show default values
a lot of stuff that I didn't heard about .. and here you go so simple
Barely getting into mixing, slightly able to understand what is being said, but I am eager to try the techniques, and I'm hoping for positive results. Anything to make this voice sound better is a blessing.
Im a subscriber now vocals have just been the most frustrating thing to get down but this video I believe is gonna be the game changer
This is one of the best thing that has happened to me this year. Thanks for the very detailed explanation
we all love stock plugins!!!
This is one of the best vocal mixing tuts I`ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing!!!
I watched this years ago and it helped a bit. Again a while later and gleaned way more. Bonerific content.
Hi Thank you so much ,Excellent way teaching how to Eq and the rest plugin for Vocal
Compression has been something that’s been hard for me! This video really helped me! Thankyou
The most challenging thing is dealing with artists :p Seriously, though, I'd try to avoid getting caught up in doing a lot of these things when they are around. You'll get into a place where you have too many cooks in the kitchen and waste a lot of time second guessing moves. Also, make sure you are mixing in a comfortable, good-sounding room. The wrong room can make you incredibly frustrated. This channel has talked about the importance of a good room before. It's really critical to getting everything just right.
Thx for this load of info. It proves mixing is still such a speciality. I prefer to let me tracks being mixed by an experienced mixer. I also dont hear all these subtil differences that you hear after processing. Ear loss is one of the reasons i'm afraid... (i'm a drummer)..
This was literally worth the watch just for the marquee tool. Probably just added a year of free time to my life.
amazing video. I learned so much in one sitting over the 10 other videos I've watched over the week.
WOW, thanks for your tutorial. I normally flunk on vocals, ditching idea after idea, not putting anything out. I have been suffering from so much anxiety at the thought of doing vocals but I have decided to tackle the issue and tried to find a home logic pro x tutor but couldn't find one but after watching your tutorial I am now confident that I can finally get it right and start releasing music? Fingers crossed. Thanks again :)
Excellent explanation. It is a difficult subject but you made it easy. Thank you so much.
The biggest problem for me as a beginer is where am I listnenig what, but this video is very helpfull. I would just need some time. Thanks a lot and all the best!
Great video, you explained very simple 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is an incredible video. Great job! I had to share this with you because I am that guy. “In phonetics, sibilants are fricative consonants of higher amplitude and pitch, made by directing a stream of air with the tongue towards the teeth. Examples of sibilants are the consonants at the beginning of the English words sip, zip, ship, and genre.” I think you are getting this confused with the word “syllables”. But whatever, small potatoes, this is a great video. Subscribed!
Chain Chain Chain, Gain of fools 😝💃🏼Awesome video & super easy walk through! Thanks! 😎 Keep rockin! 🙏🏽
Best video I’ve seen for vocals A to Z. Would you consider a similar one, maybe a part two, showing how you’d tweak the process for different genres? Also for just vocal + guitar.
My most challenging hurdle for vocal mixing is singing in tune
I'm not a great singer... I'm getting better though!
In terms of actual *mixing*, though, it's gotta be the de-esser. I need to put it on pretty hard for my vocals, but I'm getting there.
I really like this tutorial!! it's really clear-cut, straightforward, informative and most of all it uses only logic pro!!! it's the best tutorial!!
Huge help, been struggling with my subpar vocals. Great video!!
Glad it helped!
Super helpful now I know exactly what to do every time I record vocals!! 😁🙏👍
So amazingly helpful - and the small tips around using logic are so clear and intuitive. Thank you!!!
Happy to help!
thnk you more brother really I unduerstand ...🙏🏼🙏🏼 You are my teacher of the logic I will not forget you for my live ...how you teach me in this steps .....🙏🏼🙏🏼
Good explanation of using fx and suttle volume control, especially for those who think loud (tun ie up) in the Red, is best. Static!
Really appreciated . You sticked to basics .I love it
great tips ...exactly how I do by myself but I think more compressors like u makes vocal brighter ,.... ill try it ... thank you bro
great tutorial. learnt some new tricks and reminded me of a few techniques I've not been using due to laziness. Thanks!
Man, can’t believe this!!! I think I’m already a pro
The order of applying these things is very valuable. Thanks! I've got a ton of vocal tracks over one guitar, so it's going to be a lot more intense than I wanted. But now I know what to do.
makes complete sense. Only a couple other tNice tutorialngs I need to find out before I can actually make it work, but you’ve got more in depth
This video is SUPER HELPFUL. I really appreciate it. Awesome information and really well explained. Merry Christmas.!
I found this very very good indeed. Thanks for taking the time to put it together Dylan.
Very useful. Can’t wait to dissect this for my next project.
Great video ! everything went flawlessly exept the very last step ( volume automation ) After I hit ,, I then chose the Marquee tool nothing happened after hittting command etc ,it would not engage , I couldn't even draw the line like the first option.. So I had not choice but to skip the entire step... have no clue what gives 🤪
This was the most helpful video I’ve seen on this.
Yep. Pure sorcery. I cannot hear any of the subtle differences, but whenever you engineering types touch this stuff you turn it golden. Sooo envious! (But still incredibly suspicious of your manipulation of the laws of nature). Dark arts to be sure
Thanks for this excellent video
One could easily follow how the vocal developed. Thanx for these really very good tips on vocals. 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Thank you for making such clear and detailed video!
I haven’t been following you that long but I can honestly say that you have the most straight forward and informative videos that I’ve seen yet 💪🏽🔥 thanks I really appreciate it
watching this so many times my favorite words are "we are almost done"
Dylan, you're the best! These videos have helped me so much, and I'm not generally one to comment on videos. You're an excellent teacher.
Appreciate the kind words! So glad we could help :)
You really make a great video for me as beginner in Logic, the most challenging part for me is using compressor, not much different, but its have something special after using compressor. Thank you for making this video. Sorry for my bad english.
Good tutorial, i am a begginer and this si the best only with Logic plugins. Thanks! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
thanks for sharing this very well structured step-by-step approach. I will try it all out. ;)
This video is so helpful, best 30 mins i’ve invested somewhere, thank you mate.
Really great explanations especially for those of whose who don't know anything! Thank you
That was interesting and informative. My biggest challenge with vocals are that they sound like they're in a barrel and like you say they get lost with reverb. I'm going to try your recommendations. Thanks!
Haven't mixed vocals in donkey's years. Had to do a quick mix for a Xmas present song and... I just followed a long and WOW, worked nicely! mega mahalos!
A very thorough and well put together tutorial. Thanks. Can you advise why you don’t just ‘mention’ Gain Staging in this tutorial? Also, something I’d really like to understand better is why not automate the vocal levels before eq and compression? It seems more logical, or is it just personal preference? Keep up the great work...you’re doing a very valuable job.
Thanks Ben.. Very useful session.... Ive always struggled in applying the right amount EQ and Compression which is the basic ingredients.. Thanks MOM...
Hey man! LOVE these videos... My favorite shortcut, for what it's worth, is opening the window that allows you to change the gain of the individual clip so you dont have to go the left and open it every time. You've shared so many nuggets, hopefully this one helps you!
Nice one!
3 min in I learned something new, good work man!
Lots of useful techniques that apply regardless of DAW or plug-in brand (I use REAPER) - thanks!
Thank you very much i really appreciate these video iam self teaching myself!!! Light work!!! We got these everyone!!
thank you so much for making this video….. seriously, you don’t know how helpful this is i feel like crying rn 😂
The most challenging thing for me is always the compression, I simply can't hear the difference as much. I guess I just have to train my ears more. Thanks for the tutorial by the way, it helped me heaps! :)
Wow!!!! Those vocals sounded amazing omg. I am trying to become my own music producer at the moment and am starting my journey learning everything I can about vocal recording and editing first. Thank you so much for this and so glad it was the first video I found!! :)
Appreciate the very clear intro, and pace you do as if we were all getting to learn as one cause I'm new to mix/mast
Great information! Well taught. I'll be setting this up next opportunity. I may add a vocal rider after the manual gain staging to get just a bit more leveling out of my vocal tracks, but tackling the gain staging first on a region basis makes total sense. Hey I can use all the help I can find.
